We arrived and found a beautiful motel for our July 4th weekend. Unfortunately, I thought we had booked a ground floor room, but the proprietors had no record of that. Also unfortunately, the metal steps, which you could see through and were not especially friendly for dog feet, were a problem. My dogs would not go up and down them. We were given a blanket and told that we could lay that down each of the three flights of steps in order to coax the dogs up and down. Not convenient. But the owners were very accommodating and worked with some other people in a ground floor room who agreed to switch with us. It was a very nice gesture and much appreciated.
The motel is wonderfully located in town. The grounds are beautiful. There is a dog park behind the motel, which we didn't use but looked pretty decent. We like to go out for breakfast, so I cannot speak to the meal that is included in the price. I can say that despite how sweet the grounds are and the location is, I think the place is quite a bit overpriced.
The HUGE problem was not the fireworks, which seemed especially loud as they reverberated off of all of the beautiful rock cliffs surrounding the town, and it was not even the VERY loud firecrackers that people in the neighborhood (we assume it was coming from the RV park across the river) were shooting off, though neither of those things made for happy puppies. The big problem is the people running the establishment next door. New owners of the Coachlight Restaurant and Tavern seem to have no decency whatsoever. They had a band playing and the decibel level was absolutely over-the-top, arena-level loud, outlandishly loud, and played far into the night. It is beyond me how any town would put up with such a thing. The noise, both the terrible quality of it and the loudness of it, was a frustrating disappointment to an already disappointing first day (we had not yet been moved downstairs at this point).
In summary, I think River's Edge Motel is a nice place. But I would recommend calling ahead to make sure the noise from next door has been addressed before assuming that you will be able to truly enjoy your stay (I doubt that they only have bands playing on holidays). Confirm a ground-level room if your dogs aren't used to open, see-through, metal, grated steps. Be ready to spend some money. I was expecting much more than my money got me. The owners were lovely people and were as accommodating as they could be. I would like to give a rating of 3 1/2, but we can't do that here, and I just didn't have a good enough experience to bring myself to click on that 4 rating.
