“Great base camp for exploring”
Reviewed 8 August 2013

We stayed here with family and friends and the best thing was the weather. The staff was very friendly and they accomodated us allowing my children and grandchildren to stay on our campsite in tents. We rented a jeep from the koa camp and it was a lot of fun with the family. The camp needs to update the playground for children. The restaurant was convenient but a little pricey. They are limited on 50 amp so make a reservation early if you want a 50 amp. It is 5 miles to Ouray but that is ok. We liked being out of town. The rv park close to town had no grass. With our grandchildren we were glad to be in a park with grass to allow them to play. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Reserve early.

All right, if you don't get a place on the entrance way, this might not be too bad. But where we are, the continual traffic, the noisy cabin dwellers, and their yappy dogs don't make for a peaceful experience. I'll avoid this place in the future.

Room Tip: Don't say on the entranceway! We reserved early, so ????

We stayed for two nights. Good location for those wanting to visit Ouray. Check in was nice, but staff more interested in pushing BBQ dinner and band that evening. No escort to site. Having frequently stayed at KOAs, this did not quite measure up to what we believe to be KOA standards. After checking in Saturday, we did not see any yellow shirts out and about until Monday morning until they noticed a fence near our campsite knocked down. Sites are not tidied after RVs pull out, ours had dog droppings. Limited cable, wifi was fine. Limited grass area for dogs. Best part of stay was location.

I have camped at this KOA twice now and I am very satisfied with it.

The facilities (bathrooms and shower) are open 24 hours. The tent sites are soft grass. There is water very close to the tent sites and there are tent/camp sites with water and electricity.

The staff were very helpful and accommodating. The location is great, just 2 minutes outside of Ouray.

Heard Ouray was one of the prettiest towns in the state from a local. We were not disappointed. The KOA is just off the main road into town, just enough to keep the road noise down. There is a small creek which runs through the property, a pond, and the neighbors have the shaggiest black yak I've ever seen. There are cabins and a tipi available but we were tent camping. There is a hot tub which we did not use, but we did spend time in the game/laundry room. The facilities were well kept, well stocked, and clean. Wifi was running slow as there were a few of us using it at the same time. I found myself inching closer and closer to the office door, closer to the router so my stuff would post up. They have a covered back porch where you can enjoy they food they can make for you, have a game of checkers, or listen to some live music. We met some amazing people while visiting here. Staffers were great. Oh, and you can rent a jeep from them. We did a tour with a local jeep company and afterwards wished we had more time, and rented one for ourselves. You must do a jeep ride and the hot spring pool if you go.

We stayed here 4-nights and loved it! Go to the very back and it will be the quietest. The place is off the road and Tom Tom put it twenty miles off since it did only have one # and that was not it. It is about a 5-minute drive out of Ouray, on a lightly traveled road in the summer, not like the Durango KOA which is right next to a continual flow of 6-lanes of freeway. Cool August nights when everywhere else within a few hundred miles was burning up. At around 7,000' it averaged from at 80*F to 60*F, great sleeping weather in a tent. The bathroom facilities were very good, they could have used more with this park full. Plan on a wait, use your own in your RV. Excellent value restaurant, open at 0730, which is closed on Tuesday. Bummer, we were there on Tuesday and forgot to read the sign closely. They have a yak ranch next door, so put in your request for yak at breakfast and you may get to try a 97% fat free yak burger. They sell out fast! I missed out being in Montrose that day. Gas up in Montrose or Durango, as they have only one gas station in Ouray at about $0.20 a gallon more, and Silverton is priced more.
