This is a nice place to get up close to the bottom of a waterfall. Trail to the bottom is easy, even though it involves some stairs (I think around 22 steps). Trail to the top involves LOTS of stairs, so I didn't take it. But another family member did and said it was a nice view from up there as well. The road to enter the park is just immediately outside of Ouray and is one-way and the road leaving is also one-way and takes you back into Ouray. The cashier taking our money for admission to the Falls was quite annoyed when my husband and I paid for our admissions and another relative (who was paying their own way) paid for their admission. The issue seemed to be that he had to run two credit card transactions. It was a little odd that he felt like he should be able to dictate to us who paid for which of our admissions, plus if you accept credit cards, then you shouldn't act annoyed when people use them. But he did let us pay how we wanted, just wasn't too happy about it.

This was our first visit - have been pretty much everywhere all Texans go in CO, but never to Ouray. We were told to be sure and visit here while staying in Durango. We drove over the pass from Durango to Telluride, and came back through Ouray. SO GLAD we did. Others kept saying "what's there", "why do we need to go"… WOW - the minute you enter town, the jaws drop. I can't explain how small you feel looking up when you are surrounded by these huge rocky peeks and cliffs. Main street goes on for several blocks, and has very cute shops and restaurants (and yes ice cream and candy & coffee). We returned the next day actually to explore Box Canyon and just a little more of the town - DOG ALERT - we travel with ours, and the Box Canyon ticket office says no dogs on trail. However, we realized that you can also enter the trail from a public area up the hill, as several others on the trail had their dogs with them. Walking through the cave, you are exposed to an entirely new trail - we didn't continue due to time and dear hubby staying in car with the dog. But would love to return.

It is actually an amazing hole in the mountain place! Where the water flows what appears to be right through the mountain. It is a great view of Ouray from the upper bridge of the canyon and an every trip stop for our family..

This is a short quick hike to some pretty falls very close to Ouray. There is a very grumpy volunteer at the top making certain no one stands near the bird nests too long. She could have been much friendlier and needs to brush upon her social skills. Irritating encounter. Takes life a bit too seriously.

If you're in Ouray, this is definitely something to do with the family. It's quick, fun, and gorgeous. There's a bit of hiking involved, but not bad. The falls are amazing!
