“good hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2014

This is a good hotel with a helpful friendly staff. Small breakfast room. Good location as you can walk to the old downtown area easily. Clean, pleasant rooms with outside entrances. Probably an older facility but well maintained. The only problem is the high altitude and lots of steps to get to your room and there is NO elevator.

Room Tip: If you have mobility problems and stairs are a problem either make sure you get a ground floor room...

We stayed here overnight on a recent vacation. Our room was good, breakfast was filling. We were able to walk to town area. Owners were very friendly and gave us ideas on what to do, and gave us information on the area.
Would stay there again.

Last minute decision to stay at Comfort Inn, because of the brand name. Room had the smell of possibly new carpet, but was very dated with ceiling border and old furniture. Surprisingly the bed was comfortable enough, but still could not sleep due to the light coming through the window and reflecting off the mirror across from the bed where the curtain did not close properly. Also we did not realize this was a pet friendly room and neighbor had a BIG DOG that we could hear while trying to sleep in. Wanted to relax the evening we arrived but had no desire to use the Hot Tub that was out in parking lot while other guests were coming in. Breakfast the next morning had a nice variety, but the only thing that made this stay memorable were the owners that were friendly and engaging with guests.

Room Tip: First floor if you don't want to carry bags up stairs, even though up stair rooms may have bette...

I'm sorry that your experience at our hotel wasn't a pleasant one. We do listen to what you say, and want you to know that your concerns are heard. I am sorry that some of the rooms do look outdated, but like you said, the room did smell like new carpet because we had just installed the carpet 2 weeks prior to your arrival. No matter what we do the new smell will not go away right away. With that being said, we are in the process of upgrading the rest of the fixtures in the rooms as well. We are also discussing other options for the hot tub and we appreciate your comments. However this is a challenge for us because there is not a lot of room to add a hot tub away from the lot, but we are trying to find solutions. Again, I do apologize, and I do hope that you will consider staying with us again.

Stayed less than half the time we wanted to, due to the huge hotel bill. I know it was tourist season in Colorado, but if your little town wants more of my hard-earned money, stop gouging me on the room rate. Camping this year. Heck with hotels!.

I'm sorry that you felt that we were "Gouging" you on your room rate.

Unfortunately, Memorial Day Weekend is the first big weekend of the Summer in Ouray, and yes our rates are higher than they would be in the winter. However, our rates for the weekend, that I believe you are referrring to, were between $79.00 per night and $99.00 per night, which I feel are very reasonable and in another month the rates will be higher yet, and I do aplogize for that, but we also have bills to pay.

Do to the economy we have all seen an upswing on expenses. Unfortunately, we have to pass these on, and being in a remote location as we are, our expenses are higher than a motel that has more resources at their fingertips. It is more expensive and difficult to get breakfast supplies for our full hot breakfast, our fuel is more expensive, our housekeepers have to travel round trip of 70 miles a day therefore, we pay our employees more than we would have to if we weren't as remote as we are, etc., the list could go on, but because we love where we are, we accept this.

I do know that we had guests staying with us that had just come in from Durango where they were paying $200.00 per night for a room.

Continental Breakfast Issue: We were discriminated during our stay at this hotel. On our 2nd day we were issued breakfast cards by Betty and were told to present it upon getting breakfast for the remaining days of our stay. As I recalled upon checking in, there was no mention of any breakfast cards (to be exact it's their business card) to be presented to the front desk/staff upon getting your breakfast. What we've noticed, we're the only people that were given those cards. As we observed more, people came in and out of that small kitchen without presenting any cards at all. We've even asked those people next to us about the breakfast cards and they said "what card?" they were not issued any cards at all! Dismayed, we have checked out the following day and moved to another hotel who did not discriminate their customers!

I am sorry that you had a bad experience at our hotel. We in no way want anyone to feel like they are discriminated against and I am sorry that this happened. Your concerns did open my eyes to something that I had not realized until now, thank you.
The Breakfast Room Cards were started on a trial basis and obviously needs to be looked at and improved.
Unfortunately we had to start using breakfast cards to discourage people walking in off the street to a free breakfast at our hotel as this was happening on a regular basis. We were the only hotel open at this time in Ouray that had a full hot breakfast, but in no way was meant to make our guests feel uncomfortable. I now realize that there is inconsistency on my part as well as my front desk staff with this program and I thank you for bringing this to my attention. Again, I do apologize for the experience and I appreciate the feedback and will use it to improve our level of service.

The Econo Lodge is a good place to stay and I would have probably rated it 4/5, but it was the staff that made the entire stay. The room is a bit dated, but breakfast is amazing!
The lobby is extremely inviting and we hung out on the couches a lot.
The owner and his wife were so amazing. They were super friendly, gave us tips and information and the owner even helped us when we got stuck in the snow with our car. He used his ATV to help us get to the main road.
I definitely want to come back to Ouray (but next time in the summer)

Room Tip: Room closer to the lobby have a better internet connection

We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us at the Comfort Inn. That is our ultimate goal. The snow in Ouray can make it a challenge to get around at times, but we are glad that we could help you get on your way and glad to hear that you made it home safely to the warmer climate. We do hope that you will come back in the summer. Wildflowers in the summer are spectacular, we have great hiking and 4 Wheel trails. Fall is awesome with the leaves changing. Hope to see you soon and thanks for the review!

We were happy we found the Comfort Inn. It was a great value but clean and well maintained as well. It is owner operated and they were on property every day. The site didn't show the new bedding. It's very comfortable with modern white down comforters and flat screen TVs. Breakfast was fresh & plentiful with many options (waffles, eggs, sausage, biscuits, sausage gravy, yogurt, fruit and much more). Would happily stay again.
