Hart's Rocky Mountain Retreat
Reviewed 11 August 2009

What a beautiful set up. These homes are nestled in the heart of Pagosa Springs,Co. The homes came with everything we needed to feel at home. The view from the "Eagles Nest" of the Mountains was breath taking. Very peaceful. The owners, Bob and Mary Hart were the nicest folks you could ever meet and were very helpful when asked what there was to do in Pagosa. If you like animals, the wildlife was all around us. Got some awesome pictures of the Mule Deer hanging around, and spotted a Coyote strolling through as well. If you need to get away from it all and just enjoy the peace a quiet from your busy life, Harts Rocky Mountain Retreat has just what you need.

What a wonderful place. The house was very large. We had 4 adults and 2 children. We all had room to spread out without being under each others feet. The nighttime was beautiful with all the stars out. Our only problem was with people being able to tell us where to fish. Everyone said to fish downtown, but that area is very crowded due to the tubers coming down river. The staff at Hart's was very friendly and helpful. We would come back again.

We stayed in the Riversedge Townhome #4 that is in town, the office and rest of the resort are outside of town. We learned about the property on the website Colorado Vacation Directory. The photo of the units at night next to the river made this our first choice and are we glad. The 4 bedrooms fit our family perfect. We place the great grandparents on the bottom floor along with my husband and I and the kids (my son and his 2 cousins) on the third floor with my bother and sister in law enjoying the master suite. The elevator (what a luxury) made it easy for the great grandparents to move up and down without all the stairs. Not to mention not having to lug our coolers and suite cases up three flights. The river location was wonderful and the kids through rocks into the San Juan most of one afternoon. We didn't have to locate downtown parking over the 4th of July -- we could easily walk to all the events. 3 hot springs facilities were all within walking distance along with restaurants. We did get in the car to get to some trail heads and the grocery store. The kitchen was equipped with everything we need to fix breakfast and lunch. The owners gave us great recommendations on places to eat and hike. The serve was first class! We arrived late after 9pm and Bob met us at the junction of Hwy 160 and 84 and escorted us to the vacation home. He then invited us to a 4th of July Hot Dog Roast! I would highly recommend staying here when traveling with family and planning intown activities. We watched a neighbor fly fishing off his deck and kids tubbing down the river.

We visited this property this month, along with another couple. The location is beautiful...cabins are surrounded by a pine forest...town is nearby. the structures are pretty with slate flooring and beautiful bathroom fixtures. large jetted tubs in two of the bedrooms. nice folk art decorations. terraces off the lower level as well as the upper level, were appealing. however, there are serious design flaws especially considering the owners are builders. steep stairs to the second level. each of the two primary bedrooms, have open bathrooms. i mean open. open closet in upper bedroom. living room couches were made of vinyl and slippery to sit on. the larger of the two couches was a sleeper sofa, which continually threatened to open. in one of the bedrooms, the mattress cover was made of a waterproof material....very uncomfortable to sleep on. poor quality pillows. no toiletries were provided, other than small bars of soap...bathroom tissue was of low quality. no hairdryer. beds appeared to be double not queen size mattresses. a "welcome" gift was provided...one pkg of microwave popcorn and a small pkg of coffee. although plentiful firewood was provided, to avoid a $100 fee for house cleaning, you must restock the wood used for the fireplace, as well as clean the fireplace. additionally, you must empty your trash. no wireless service for either our computer or our friend's. the owners did try to correct this problem by sending in an it person, a couple of times, to no avail. ...signal remained too weak. after checking out, our computer connected at another location, no problem. please...for $350+ a night, expectations are somewhat higher.

Unfortunately our guest was upset that his older computer would not pick up our wireless signal. Upon notifying us of his inability to connect we immediatly hired our computer technician to come out and address the problem. Our wireless signal was fine as our computer technician demonstrated to our guest with his computer. Although the computer problem was not our fault I guess it caused our guest to write an average reveiw of an outstanding property. To clarify some of his other concerns; the beds are all queen size, not full size; the couches are high quality leather, not vinyl; there is no cleaning fee and all you can use firewood is provided for free we just ask that the guest restock what they use out of our supply; hair dryers are provided upon request; the open bathroom design that he called a design flaw is actually highly desirable in new custom homes. We do provide waterproof mattress covers on our beds for the protection of our future guests but had we known that one was uncomfortable we would have immediately replaced it. All he had to do was ask. At Hart's Rocky Mountain Retreat we strive to give the unigue feel of a luxury cabin in the woods with all the conveniences and comforts of home. Should ever anyone find something wrong, let us know and we'll fix it.
