“Amazing campground with abundant nature to see!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2014

We stayed here for a quick overnight trip and sure wished we had planned a longer visit. It was a beautiful location and the Cowboy Cabin we stayed in was so cute and comfortable we just loved it. We have a family of four and even though the cabin was small, we all had our comfortable places to sleep and even a dining table and microwave along with an awesome bathroom complete with a nice, hot shower. The staff in the small shop were really nice and the owner helped us find our way into the campground at night and was very kind about us checking in after hours. Pagosa Springs is just beautiful and Sportsmans Campground is a great place to use as a basecamp to visit all there is to see!

Well-maintained, isolated, and nestled in beautiful ponderosa pines, Sportsman's Campground is paradise! Campers have a choice of RV spots, cabins, or tent areas. The general store is not only a grocery but also sells other camper supplies along with some great t-shirts, caps, hats, and sweatshirts. The lodge is a large centrally-located building available to all guests and has a kitchen, dining area, game tables, books and board games, restrooms and showers, and a laundry. The staff is friendly and helpful and is always ready to provide many suggestions for hiking, fishing, hunting, ATVing, and other area activities. TV and WiFi are available. My husband and I have been here for several summers, have never been disappointed, and always look forward to returning.

Room Tip: Make reservations very early--the campground is frequently full.

Went to Sportsman's stressed out pretty bad. Within the first couple hours after an extremely fast and easy check-in, we were in absolute Heaven! They told me exactly where to fish and what to use. I caught the biggest Brown of my life and now have a replica of him on my wall. These people are the Greatest and will definitely be a regular stop annually for our vacation plans! Thanks to all at Sportsman's Campground,,,keep up the Great Job guys ;)

We as a family have been coming to Williams lake or 60 years usually dry camping in the campgrounds further in, however this last year with the damage done thru insects and mold the campsites where unusable, than there was the Little Sands Fire which closed all dry campgrounds. So reluctantly we headed to sportsmans in a depression. But WOW did our attitude change once we where there! The staff went above and beyond to make sure our stay was the best it could be! The sites are clean, the bathrooms where wonderful, and you just felt as if you where out there with all your family. Any need we had was met with courtesy and promptness. Took a hoarse back tour and I have a bad hip so it was going to be my last time on a horse, the owner seeing i was having an uncomfortable time gave up his OWN HORSE so that i could enjoy the rest of the ride. That was an amazing gesture of kindness that will never be forgotten! They changed our mind on where we camp after two generations! Would recommend anyone to stay here it is beautiful and the staff go far and beyond their duties! It is a true jem in the mountains, please everyone go and go often!!

Beautiful surrounds, heard the coyotes in the early morning. We were the only tent campers, very quiet. Good fire ring, kitchen also available nearby. Clean bathrooms with hot showers, Guest laundry.
Great value 2hr trail ride by Crazyhorse outfitters located on site (only $50, right up to canyon edge). Family and Pet friendly too, if thats your thing.

Room Tip: Camping great, cabins also looked nice

We spent the day here visiting friends who have used this as their summer getaway for many decades! I was very impressed by the finishes in the cabin they rented...everything was fresh and clean, and the owners even outfitted the rooms with loverly, high quality log furniture. The kitchen was small, but plenty adequate for a rental cabin. Our firends were in the "Rio Grande". It even had plenty of chairs on the front porch, and a covered grilling area plus it's own firepit. There was ample space between the cabins and the RV's and because it was 11 miles down a gravel road, there was plenty of quiet and a feeling of getting away from it all. Even though we have our own cabin on the other side of Wolf Creek Pass, we would be interested in staying here when our friends are also visiting!

Room Tip: Book as far in advance as you can as they fill up very quickly in the summer and you may prefer a sp...

We stayed for a long weekend with family. Some brought their RVs, some of us stayed in the cabins. We stayed in the "Hondo" cabin, very nicely equipped with a stove top, fridge and sink with all the utensils and pans you might need, plus a bathroom with shower. Each cabin has a grill, picnic table, fire pit. Some have kitchenettes and bathroom facilities, some are just sleeping quarters, but there are showers and laundry available, plus a lodge with a kitchen and games. Located about 20 miles from Pagosa Springs, it is in some very beautiful back country close to many hiking trails, from a short hike to a waterfall, to a hike up Pagosa Peak.
