Driving into town late we popped in to reserver a room, I'm always enticed by a hot tub. The young man at the desk was very nice and helpful as was another gentleman. He gave us some nice recommendations about the town.

Reservation payed, key in hand we entered our room. I have't seen or smelled anything like this since my 20's. I"m twice that now and although, I'm not super fussy, I expect something more $70+ a night.

Our room, in the strip of rooms facing the street was about 12' x 12'. The room smelled like 'old', it's obvious that the carpet has not been replaced for a long time. We had to crack a window. If you're going to stay here, check your room out before you pay. We were to tired to cancel out.

Room Tip: Ask to see your room before you pay for the night.

We are sorry that you were not happy with your room. We do appreciate your review and the fact that you acknowledged the front desk staff in a positive manner.
However, since you noted the front desk staff was friendly and attentive, we do not understand why you didn't bring this to our attention while you were at the property. It seems you would have realized the front desk would have been happy to move you to a room that you would have been more pleased with.

Stayed at this motel for 3 nights during second week of March. Room was plenty big and beds were comfortable. My only complaint is that the door to the adjoinning room was very thin. You could see the light comming through at the top of the door at night, and you could hear every word spoken by the people in the next room. The first 2 nights we thought the people next to us were just really rowdy and loud, but the third night there were new guests and we could here them too. Even so, I would stay here again. The price was right and so was the location. I did indeed like the motel and breakfast was nice too.

Thank you for your review. We do apologize about the guest in the room next to you. We only have a few rooms with connecting doors and try to keep these rooms only for guest that are traveling together. However, during busy periods this is not always possible.
We are planning on replacing these doors with more sound proof ones this summer in an attempt to alleviate this problem. Hopefully, this will be complete when you stay with us next time.

We pulled up after reading the marquee message "cabins starting at $70". The place was virtually empty even though it was spring break. The lady in the office offered us an "original room" for nearly $80. She assured us the $70 cabins were full and that she was busy with spring-break folks. Sitting here this morning, after watching her empty parking lots all evening, I'm wondering why you'd rent this room we got to anyone when your at about a 60-70% vacancy rate. Room 20, the original room, was, indeed, a cozy, unupdated, rustic room. Queen bed, bath and full kitchen. The first red flag was the ceiling fan, held up by a bungee cord. The original equipment Coleman wall heater was running full bore, but there was a space heater on the table. The note on the thermostat said the space heater was for those "sensitive to the noise from the wall heater." Little did we know, the clunk, BANG cycle of the Coleman as it cooled off after running. The fridge we finally unplugged at 1 am as it sounded like a V6 in need of a tune-up. Room is clean and the grounds are nice and convenient. We were at the back and there was pretty much no highway noise. We did walk to the river and down to a local pub for dinner. When the motel keeper tells you the "hospitality" room is closed at 10, it's serious! No ice, no vending...it's locked AND padlocked. No soda for you in the evening! Will we stay again....probably not.

Room Tip: Ask a lot of questions!

We are sorry you were not completely satisfied with your stay! As we try to be sure everyone enjoys their stay, part of our check in procedures is to let every guest know that if they bring any concerns to the front desk staff we will address them immediately, as well as letting everyone know the hospitality room closes at 10pm since our front desk is not open 24hrs. Since we are a mountain town we frequently get sub-zero temperatures in the winter and it is common for the local wildlife to visit our property during the summer, including black bears. Therefore, vending machines cannot be kept outside.
Room #20 is one of our most requested rooms by the many return guest we have as it is the only motel room with a full kitchen and has been updated with new rustic designed lighting, towel bars etc. All of the rooms in that section had brand new windows installed just last summer. The additional electric heaters are in the rooms because we do understand that some people are not used to the expansion and contraction of the duct work associated with gravity type wall heaters (not a coleman).
As for your observation of occupancy, we were not only experiencing our typical spring break ski crowd but also had a construction crew working on a nearby store being built that occupied 11 of our rooms though they only had 3 vehicles.
Again, we do apologize you did not fully enjoy our stay and as stated previously, if you do stay with us again, we simply ask that you give us the opportunity to correct any concerns while you are on property.

We stayed here so that we could have our dog with us on our road trip through Pagosa Springs. Some of us went skiing at Wolf Creek, which was wonderful, and the San Juan motel gave us a discount when we showed them ski passes.

The motel is located on the east side of the town, which makes it easy to get to the ski area, but also in walking distance of restaurants. Right next door is a farmers' market sort of vending area, but the only thing going on there was a burrito vendor since it was winter.

The continental breakfast they offer is very high on sugar, but the coffee was good. The "modern double queen" hotel-type room we booked seems pretty old and run-down, but it was spacious even with four people. The bathroom sink was very cracked and you had to turn the faucet in the opposite direction expected for hot water. Hot water comes out readily in the shower. Strangely, I ran out of hot water in the middle of my shower in the afternoon, but later three of us took showers in a row without a problem.

Location: as other reviews mention, great location next to food, stores, rental store, and restaurants.
Service: excellent. Everyone was very nice and friendly, and took the time to talk with us and give recommendations. Made the stay very nice.
Jacuzzi: excellent! Nice and warm (was cleaned, took 1 day to warm up to a nice 104F).
Cabin #7: wouldn't recommend it...too small, and I'd bring can openers (the two here were broken). Also, the gas stove leaked a bit, so I turned the main switch off (no big deal, but a nuisance). It'd also be nice if it had a microwave and toaster, which I believe the larger cabins have.
WiFi: worked, but very slow (<0.5 Mbps). OK for email. Usually I get >5 Mbps at hotels, and 25 at home.

Thank you for your review. You are correct, even though cabin #7 has been updated even as far as reconfiguring the bathroom from its original design, this cabin is less suitable for families than some of our other cabins.
We apologize the can openers did not operate. If we had known we would have replaced them as we keep new ones on hand.
We hope you decide to stay with us again and bring any of your concerns to our attention while on site so we can make any needed corrections.

Very affordable and close to the mountain for easy access to snowboarding. Rented a 2 bedroom cabin with a couple of friends and the space and kitchen were awesome. Clean place to crash after a long day on the mountain and the hot tub does the soar legs good. Breakfast is a plus but it is just a simple no thrills offering. Will stay again!

Room Tip: Private cabins are great for a little extra privacy.
