“Typical Wyndham”
Reviewed 4 September 2013

Pagosa springs is beautiful. The resort is conveniently located near town. We hiked, fished, ate well but as for the rooms......nothing special. We stayed in the Teak lodge area which supposedly was just redone. Don't understand it. The place just did not look clean. The carpet was stained, the tiles in the bathroom were missing grout in spots, glass sliding doors were filthy. The only thing nice about the room was the view of the lake. Some Outlets and phones were not working in the rooms. Don't bother calling the front desk or activity center for information....they never pick up the phones. Staff at the activity center were not very helpful or friendly. The recreation center had a gym, however bring your own towel because they literally give you a wash cloth to work out with. Upon arrival, met a woman named Ashley who was very helpful in recommending restaurants and activities during our stay. Throughout my stay she was very persistent in trying to get me to a "Wyndham owners update meeting". I wish the other Wyndham staff were as concerned and persistent about the upkeep and cleanliness of the resort, as they are about having Wyndham owners spend more money to upgrade their timeshares!

As long as guests understand that this is a 3-star property they will not be disappointed. As you will see below the list of cons is longer than the list of pros; however, most of these are quite picky. There is plenty to see and do in the area, and resort offers many free on-site activities for adults and children.

We stayed a full week and were sad to leave despite some of the concerns listed below.

Pros:

Location - mid-way between Cumbres & Toltec and Durango & Silverton railroad excursions, and close to the hot springs, all of which we enjoyed very much.

Lovely well-maintained grounds, quiet and peaceful. Beautiful sunsets. On property golf course and small lake for fishing.

We very much appreciated our large 1-bedroom unit in the Ptarmigan area (unity 7210A). The unit was fully equipped and comfortable (ok, we would have liked a kettle and teapot), despite a few minor maintenance issues. We very much appreciated the inclusion of dishwasher and laundry soaps. Extra towels were also provided. (This is a timeshare – bring your own personal soap, shampoo, etc.)

Convenient to a large grocery store, liquor store and other shops and services – all reasonably priced compared to home.

The included WiFi was appreciated, although occasionally it did cut out briefly.

Activities centre helpful with day excursions.

Cons:

Aside from newish carpeting and tiles, the rest of the unit was dated (early 80s), with pink kitchen counter tops. The living room TV was small, especially given the distance from seating, and the bedroom TV was ancient.

Shower tap was difficult to use and needed replacement. My husband bought a cheap screwdriver to tighten it up, but couldn’t do the full repair needed.

There was an electrical issue with the ceiling fan/lamp where one of the lights flashed every 15 seconds all night. A bit scary – but we got used to it.

The washer/dryer worked well, but both were very old and the dryer was very loud and whiny. We would plan to dry a load during our evening walks.

We called for maintenance and someone did come through to inspect when we were out, but no repairs were made during our stay.

The Jacuzzi room looked old and sterile and personally I think should be removed and replaced with a small 2nd bedroom. We didn't use it.

Also, the bedroom had a door access to the back deck, but meant we were uncomfortable leaving it open during the night. This door should be replaced with a window. Access to the deck from the living room is quite sufficient.

After three days, the condo sales folks finally got the message that we had no intention of attending one of their "workshops". If we hadn't been through this numerous times before we would have felt very pressured and probably would have caved. Don't go unless you have already decided you want to buy.

We didn't check out the recreation centre and indoor pool or participate in any of the activities other than the welcome meeting, which was very informative with loads of prizes.

The Wyndham Pagosa does not pretend to be a luxury property. It provides spacious and comfortable accommodations that felt more like a "home away from home" than a hotel. We would definitely try to stay at this property if we return to the Pagosa Springs area.

As far as a Wyndham property goes, this one isn't the best. Our room was smaller than we have ever had at a Wyndham property - the kitchen was tiny! We didn't have a balcony or patio. No outdoor relaxation space. That was incredibly disappointing.
If you compare this to typical hotel room - it is great. You get a kitchen and living room with eating space. It was very clean and nice. Overall it was a nice stay - just not up to Wyndham standards.

NO GO AT WYNDHAM! It's very pretty here. The area is stunning and beautiful. The staff is friendly and helpful. The proximity to 160 is fantastic.
Where do I start? We hiked, soaked, ate, drank, and traveled our self silly. The restaurants were fantastic.... Pagosa Brewery, Boss Hoggs, Kips, Riff Raff Brewery, Ramones.......all fantasitc food and service! We hiked Wolf Creek/Continental Divide, we drove to Four Corners then Farmingham NM. We soaked the day away at the spa...It was all fantastic!
If you have or have not noticed I have not mentioned Wyndham except in the title. Our EXPERIENCE HERE WAS TERRIBLE! The staff is friendly, the area beautiful...that's where it ends. Our room was located in Village Point. We had a room on the lake and a beautiful view. What we didn't have was a tub we could soak in, a tv larger than 20 in. clean carpet, locks on both the front and back screen doors, a comfortable bed, outlets that worked (only 2 worked), a decent sized kitchen with working appliances....I could go on to criticize this places shortcomings but I'm sure it would fall on deaf ears. There is NO POOL, NO HOT TUBS....NOTHING TO RELAX after a long day of hiking or whatever. Yes, there is a community gym that you have a membership to that offers an indoor pool and hot tub..but the Wyndham offers NOTHING in the lines of these amenities! The immediate area is beautiful, so beautiful that we seriously are thinking of retirement here. But we WILL NEVER STAY WITH WYNDHAM AGAIN! In addition, the internet connection is terrible here...better have 3 or 4G or you are in trouble! They offer free internet service ......but it is always LIMITED OR NOT AVAILABLE. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR, PICK SOMEWHERE ELSE TO ENJOY THIS TREASURE...DON'T STAY AT THE WYNDHAM!!

We were looking for a timeshare in Durango and happened upon this property in Pagosa Springs. Our unit was in Perigrine and was quite comfortable. There are large and small one bedrooms. Make sure that you are in the rear facing larger one. The trips to Durango/Silverton and Mesa Verde were worth the money and time. The local Pagosa Springs restaurants were all good. And, the Hot Springs at Overlook was a day well spent.

We had a very relaxing time during our weekend visit to the Wyndam Vacation properties even though we did not sit through the time share sales pitch. Our room was on the end of a quadraplex in the Ptarmigan section. It looked kind of small from the outside but was very spacious inside. It had a full kitchen, dining room and living room.It also had a large master bedroom with a very comfortable bed and a jacuzzi large enough for two. This is a very peaceful and serene location with trees, a lake close by and wildlife. It is also close to restaurants and shopping. We would gladly return again.

Room Tip: Get a room that is away from the road noise in the rear of the property.
