My boyfriend and I stayed in a cabin for two nights over labor day weekend. The cabin is cozy and larger than I expected, although the bathroom is tight. It's a great area to relax and hang out. Plenty of outdoor seating around the property and played horseshoes. Breakfast had yummy waffles and a great beverage selection and thankfully boiled eggs since there were a lot of bread items. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely consider staying here again.

Room Tip: stay in a cabin

Our family reunion was a terrific success because of the wonderful cabins, lodge rooms, attentive, friendly and helpful staff at High Country Lodge! We rented 7 cabins and 4 lodge rooms and each one was exceptionaly clean and well equiped. We all appreciated the more than adequate breakfast each morning. All of the Pagosa activities were close by and we ate as a family at the SanJuan Roadhouse that is walkable from the lodge. If you're planning a family reunion or just want a great place to stay and enjoy the Pagosa area I would recommend this lodge as exceptional in every way.

Room Tip: We had 30 people at the reunion and all were more than pleased with the accomadations

During a long driving trip in Utah and Colorado, I booked the Lodge as a break point before heading to Ouray, CO. I booked a room in the lodge (cabins are also available). The location is just a little outside of town, so you would most likely need to drive to get to that area.
The lobby area was very cute and well maintained. The grounds were also very nice, spent some time sitting on a swing reading a book in the sunshine while there.
The room was fine, it was very clean and appropriate for the price. It had a frig and microwave....my only complaint about this place would be the thinness of the walls. I did ask to be on the bottom floor of the lodge (it's two stories) because I had a big bag and was only there for one night. However, the heavy foot steps of the people above me woke me up at 6am. I could also hear the TV's of the neighboring rooms in the evening before going to bed.
Other then that, it was a great place for the price.

Room Tip: If you are staying for more then one day, request an upstairs room or go for the cabin.

I was here for a family reunion and it worked out well. The cabin we had was large with two bedrooms and a full kitchen. Much better equipped kitchen than most other hotels I have stayed at. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They have a nice outdoor play area for children and a picnic pavilion with gas grills. Very quiet at night. I would recommend it for people looking for a family friendly vacation spot.

We scheduled our trip online and didn't have a bit of trouble when we got there wanting to change from our room to an available cabin after the first two nights. We went kayaking in the morning and when we came back to change to go horseback riding after lunch, they had the cabin cleaned and ready for us. They had a good continental breakfast with the normal waffles, ceral, bagles etc. but their fruit was delicious! On the weekend they added biscuits and gravy. They have a place to start a camp fire, other yard games with a nice place for kids to play. They also have three wonderful hot tubs that we frequented in the evening. The only draw back was they are a couple miles east of town and we did a lot of driving to do the other things we had planned. They do have the San Juan Roadhouse restaraunt right next door that is a little pricey, but I would have to say well worth it. The food and margaritas were wonderful. It's a truely authentic old time saloon type restaraunt and they have live music on the patio on the weekends. If you want a nice relaxing place to stay, choose High Country Lodge in Pagosa Springs, CO.

Room Tip: Go for the cabins. It's more like staying in a true lodge setting and not that much more expens...

Stayed for two nights in a 1 br cabin. The cabin was clean, roomy, and comfortable. The cabins are behind the regular motel so we didn't get a whole lot of road noise. The breakfast was good even though my travel companion spilled waffle batter all over the counter. LMAO! All in all, I totally enjoyed my stay here.

Room Tip: Try to get a cabin. Price is reasonable.

We stayed at the lodge, not the cabins. There is a pond stocked with trout, but my daughter didn't catch anything since she was being eaten by bugs and wanted to come inside. The rooms are basic motel-style rooms, but need to be updated. There are hand painted flowers on the walls, edges missing from the table, and an old tv. There is an armoire-type thing by the sink that is just in the way. The lodge looks much better on the outside; there are hanging baskets with flowers and log cabin type walls. The breakfast area was very charming. There were log tables, chairs, and benches that gave it a country-like feel. The decor was along these lines; boots and horseshoes, but cute. Breakfast was awesome; best coffee all trip! If the rooms reflected the outside and the dining area, it would be a great place. The location is ideal for Wolf Creek as you are still basically on the mountain. Make sure to see Treasure Falls; a short (free)hike will take you to an impressive waterfall.
