This hotel was top notch in terms of service, cleanliness, things to do and amenities. We took our family in Oct. of 2011 and had tons of fun weather it was fishing at their stocked lake (they provided rods free of charge), or sitting by the fire at night in the open space, this was the place to stay - true Colorado. We really didn't have to go into town to keep busy! Highly recommended and a value as our cost per night was well below $100. Have fun!

We stayed at High Country Lodge one night. I had originally considered booking for two nights...thank goodness I did not.

The property itself is just fine in itself...average, at best. It will suffice for a one-night stopover...no more, in my opinion.

We stayed in the hotel. I chose a room upstairs so that we would not hear footsteps above us. That did little good as the walls are so thin you can hear every car zooming down the highway.

The mattress was very uncomfortable, my back screamed the next day! The towels were very rough on the skin. However, the water pressure in the shower was welcome.

There are some small cabins on the property situated behind the hotel. They may afford less noise from traffic. We chose not to stay in one of these as we did not need a kitchen.

There is a hot tub on the property, we did not indulge. Also, there is a cute little pond. There was a small playground with horseshoe pits. I would consider this property best for families with young children. There are better options in town for couples.

Pets are allowed here. As a matter of fact, there was a very large dog lounging on the bed in the room next to ours. The lady staying there left here curtain open, leaving a full view of the whole room as we walked past.

We were heading from Denver to Durango with a stopover in Pagosa Springs for the night. We were taking several of our staff so we weren't looking to spend a lot of money. We chose this place based on the reviews from this site. I'll tell you what, we were so pleasantly surprised. This was a lovely hotel with a lot of personal touches. We stayed in the "hotel" part because we were just looking for something for the night but the cabins looked lovely also. We were welcomed at the front desk and shown our room. It was just a basic hotel room but the little touches made it special. From the prayer left to read (not in your face, just a nice touch) to the laundry basket provided, you could tell someone other than a corporation cared about this property. The hot tub area had three hot tubs, a sauna, and several exercise machines in addition to a library/book exchange. The grounds between the cabins and the hotel were lovely and there were picnic tables and swings to sit at/on. Breakfast was provided and it was good, offering continental cuisine in addition to a waffle station in a lovely area. I was more than pleasantly surprised at this hotel and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

My boyfriend and I stayed in a cabin for two nights over labor day weekend. The cabin is cozy and larger than I expected, although the bathroom is tight. It's a great area to relax and hang out. Plenty of outdoor seating around the property and played horseshoes. Breakfast had yummy waffles and a great beverage selection and thankfully boiled eggs since there were a lot of bread items. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely consider staying here again.

Room Tip: stay in a cabin

Our family reunion was a terrific success because of the wonderful cabins, lodge rooms, attentive, friendly and helpful staff at High Country Lodge! We rented 7 cabins and 4 lodge rooms and each one was exceptionaly clean and well equiped. We all appreciated the more than adequate breakfast each morning. All of the Pagosa activities were close by and we ate as a family at the SanJuan Roadhouse that is walkable from the lodge. If you're planning a family reunion or just want a great place to stay and enjoy the Pagosa area I would recommend this lodge as exceptional in every way.

Room Tip: We had 30 people at the reunion and all were more than pleased with the accomadations

During a long driving trip in Utah and Colorado, I booked the Lodge as a break point before heading to Ouray, CO. I booked a room in the lodge (cabins are also available). The location is just a little outside of town, so you would most likely need to drive to get to that area.
The lobby area was very cute and well maintained. The grounds were also very nice, spent some time sitting on a swing reading a book in the sunshine while there.
The room was fine, it was very clean and appropriate for the price. It had a frig and microwave....my only complaint about this place would be the thinness of the walls. I did ask to be on the bottom floor of the lodge (it's two stories) because I had a big bag and was only there for one night. However, the heavy foot steps of the people above me woke me up at 6am. I could also hear the TV's of the neighboring rooms in the evening before going to bed.
Other then that, it was a great place for the price.

Room Tip: If you are staying for more then one day, request an upstairs room or go for the cabin.

I was here for a family reunion and it worked out well. The cabin we had was large with two bedrooms and a full kitchen. Much better equipped kitchen than most other hotels I have stayed at. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They have a nice outdoor play area for children and a picnic pavilion with gas grills. Very quiet at night. I would recommend it for people looking for a family friendly vacation spot.
