“Best place to stay in Pagosa”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 October 2012

Two miles north of town toward Wolf Creek, it is not the most convenient. Reasonable prices. Now for the good part: the managers are from Canada, very helpful and personable. One of the best breakfast setups I've seen, with plenty of fruit, hardboiled or scrambled eggs, cereal, a real coffee maker with a selection from decaf to cappucino, toaster, waffle iron - you name it. And - when I asked them to turn off Fox News, they obliged with a smile.

Room Tip: The road noise will bother you if you are close to the road. We recommend renting a cabin toward the...

Thank you for your kind review-we always appreciate our guests who take time to share their experience here.
While its true we are 2 miles from town, we still feel it's advantageous because of the views, the trees and wildlife and our fishing pond. It is really only 5 minutes to the center of down town or the hot springs, and 10 minutes to the far side of town.
Come back and see us often, you will find the same friendly welcome, and we are always improving the breakfast to keep our guests happy.

Wow, and you stayed in April before the new owners arrived and added all the improvements!
Wait till you see all the new things we've done-you will enjoy HCL even more. Come back soon, and check out our new decor, flat screen tvs with built in DVD players, new mattresses in the lodge rooms (some kings! ) and the expanded breakfast, including a wonderful coffee machine that makes all kinds of fancy coffees. If you liked us in April, you'll love us now!!
Thanks so much for sharing your experience here, with others. We hope to see you soon!

Great, CLEAN inn right on our way through Pagosa Springs. We enjoyed the hot tubs, th redone room, and the cozy lobby where they had hot tea available 24/7. Overall, a great place. Yummy, hot breakfast in the morning. We loved it all!

The remodeling definitely was completed in our room. I was unsure how comfortable the lodge would be. I knew it was an older building and sometimes that can be an issue. I found the bed very comfortable, the bathroom was nice and very clean. I noticed the new flat screen TV but "It's Pagosa" so did not watch any TV at all. The breakfast buffet was good. There were different choices based on many different types of diets. The coffee was wonderful!
When I knew we would be arriving late, I called to let them know we would arrive after 10 pm. The manager advised me about a letter that would be posted on the front office door with the neccessary info.
All in all, I recommend High Country Lodge. Close enough to town to enjoy, and great views out the window.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and I will return again.

Thank you for your wonderful review. It feels so good to be appreciated by the people who matter most to us-our guests! The new tvs are great, but I would rather look at the mountains and the changing seasons any day of the week! It sounds like you really enjoyed Pagosa Springs, and our lodge, and that's what counts .
We hope you will come back whenever you can. You will find the same warm welcome. Thanks again for being our guest and sharing your experience with others.

ROOM 101 stay on Sept 9-10th 2012: the new owners are slowly remodeling and working hard to improve the overall quality of the lodge. It is old but in pretty good shape. Our bed was not too soft or hard, average bathroom size with tub/shower combo. flat screen tvs, tho they sit quit low on the lowboy dresser and if U are lying back near the headboard the remote signal may not get there without raising your hand up some, but minor. The nice breakfast is very similar to HOJOs or La Quintas: belgian waffles, muffins, toast, cereals and juices coffee teas. Location is right on the highway so U do have some diesel trucks using their jake brakes at times.

We appreciate you staying with us and taking time to write a review. Your room had one of our brand new king mattresses. All lodge rooms now have new mattresses and all of our single queen rooms are now king rooms. New flat screen tvs with built in DVD players, new mattresses, new artwork, new paint, new bed linens, new towels, a microwave and fridge in every room, an enlarged breakfast patio (new just this week!), and now scrambled eggs on the breakfast menu every day-we are making quick progress to make this lodge the best it can be. We are also looking for the perfect piece of furniture to raise the tvs to the proper height in each room, so that is on the list. Now if we could just persuade the truckers to go easy on the jake brakes!!:):)
We are so glad you enjoyed your stay here, and hope you will come back whenever you can.
See you soon!

The owners have obviously put a lot of thought into what thier quests would like during their stay. We stayed in the lodge (they also have cabins) and it was immaculate. New beds that were not too soft and not too hard. The linens were way above average. We had 2 queen beds with 4 pillows on each that were fat and could have been new. Towels were fluffy. Nothing needed repairing or was worn. The room was on the small side, but everything was so beautiful, it just didn't matter. I would recommend High Country Lodge to anyone, and we would stay here again. We might even go out of our way to stay here again :)

I want to start by saying I DO NOT think the lodge made a mistake. I made reservations about 2 months before arriving and I am not sure if I booked direct or from outside source (travelocity, orbitz, etc...). When I arrived (around 10:30 pm) the desk was closed down without my keys hanging up front. Manager couldn't find me in the system at all -- I had an email saying the room was in pending status from the day I booked but I never called to follow up... I asumed all was well.

She did accomodate my wants for a cabin and honored the price agreed upon by website reservation. The cabin was awsome only problem is we were only there one night... wish we could stay for 3 or 4 days.

Very cute, quiet, clean place. Great for kids too.

Room Tip: Get a cabin it was great.

Thank you so much for writing a review. We still haven't solved the mystery of how our system "lost' you, but at the same time, we are happy that we were still able to accomodate you and provide a larger cabin at the same price as a smaller one. We do hope you will come back and spend more time here-Pagosa is a magical place in all seasons, and you are always welcome at High Country Lodge. We appreciate you choosing to stay with us and look forward to seeing you again soon. You are the living proof that no matter what happens, we will always do our best to make things right for each and every guest.
