Owner description: Welcome to Redstone Castle, a turn of the century jewel completed in 1902 for industrialist and coal magnate John Cleveland Osgood. At the time, Osgood was one of the wealthiest people in the United States, purportedly ranking sixth. It is also known as Cleveholm Manor, its original name. The Castle anchors the mountain hamlet of Redstone, in the magnificent Crystal River Valley still dominated by beautiful, wide-open spaces and undisturbed nature. Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971, the Castle provides a unique glimpse into the personal styles and social culture of America’s elite at the turn of the 20th Century.

learn all about the history of little Redstone and the area, and the industry that created it. This 16,000+ square foot mansion takes approximately 1.5 hours to tour. Very interesting.

We had a great time, food was good, dancing was fun! The dining room was just big enough for a fun wedding party.

We stayed here in Jan. 1999 for our honeymoon. We were sad to hear it had closed soon after. We visited this weekend for our 15 year anniversary and were glad to be able to tour the castle. The tour guide was informative and it was great to be able to see so much of the property. It would be great to see it converted to a B&B again one day! If you go, you need to buy your tour tickets at the General Store in Redstone. Go early to get your tickets, the tour sold out and we were there in the off-season!

Not a typical castle but this mansion was exceptional and is a gem which should remain a treasured find for those interested in all things in the past. I loved the stories and the costumed tour guide. The many bedrooms tucked away down many different stair wells and bathrooms in every boudoir were an adventure in themselves. As they are constantly renovating I would go again when I am vacationing in Colorado.

I have been to Redstone a couple times before but not as an adult. I love history so I had a great time asking questions of our tour guide. She has been a guide there for 17 years so she seemed to know everything about the area, as if she lived there in the early 1900's.
If you are like me and fascinated with company town social experiments from the 1890's-1920's, you will LOVE this incredibly charming, cute town of 92.
The house of course is not a real castle, but it certainly feels like it given the age and location.
If you are in the Carbondale area, be sure to stop by before it turns back into a hotel!
