We really enjoyed the back view from our room. We overlooked the yard in which the animals were kept; the goats, the llamas, the alpaca and the chickens and roosters. We walked around the back and side acreage accompanied by one of the resident dogs Sookie. She kept her watchful eye on us the whole time. Coffee was good and plentiful. We had omelets made to order one morning and biscuits and gravy the next. Our morning meals also included a fresh fruit cup, a sweet (cinnamon roll and coffee cake) and juice.

Dear Mtn2sea,
Thank you for taking the time to post such a delightful review - and very specific at that! We love sharing our home and animals and beautiful mountain views with our guests. We also are coffee snobs (being from Seattle WA) and always appreciate comments about our good locally roasted coffee and espresso machine.
We are constantly upgrading the guest experience at the MGL and do hope to welcome you baaaack in the near future!

Great location, easy to get to while still being away from the maddening crowd. Gina made us feel at home in her home. Good food and coffee. I took the cheese making class Gina offers and it was a blast. The room was clean and quiet, although we did leave the windows open to better hear the roosters, which are close enough to the lodge to hear, but not so close as to startle you awake. While we did not travel with dogs, the lodge is very dog friendly, although you would never know it by looking at the rooms.

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the two suites, but all rooms are spacious and clean.

Dear Robert K,
Thank you so much for such a great review! We feel like you are family too! Having that connection with our guests (and between the guests) is truly what sets a B&B apart from a hotel or motel.
The goats are all doing fine and the chickens too - we now are leaving a light on 24 hrs a day to keep the chickens warm and to encourage egg production. The goats are getting locked in the barn at night to keep them safe from predators, and the water troughs all have heaters in them.
I just planted a whole crop of winter crops in the geodesic dome green house - and expect to get some fresh veggies within a month or so. Please try to schedule a return trip in the near future!

Location is great easy to get around the area. Clean and very comfortable. Rooms are large and in very good condition. Common room is the highlight lots of room, and very inviting. All the guest had place to sit while we swapped stories about our daily adventures. Breakfasts was perfect each day we had a different dish and each one was delightful. Coffee flows 24/7 which is fine by me.
Gina, D’Arcy, and son Derrick made us feel welcome right from the start. I felt like old friends when it was time for us to leave. Make sure you leave time for the rest of the MGL family. Each morning I would head out to the barn coffee in hand to see the animals. The goats are super friendly liking a nice scratch on head. Go for a walk on the property the goats will join you.
Views from the lodge are like out of a picture-book.
Needless to say this is one of the best B&Bs I've ever stayed at.

Dear Robert K,
Gracias for such a nice write-up! Yes, we do love our coffee (we're originally from coffee land - Seattle -) Around here things are very pretty - woke up to a little snow today.
The goats are getting their nice thick winter coats on - and Derek tucks them away each night in the barn, where they cuddle up with each other to stay warm.
We are taking a little break (Closed for the month) to get some projects done (yeah Right!) and to catch up on some laziness.
Do come back - we will be energized after our break - ready to welcome you all!

Never have I stayed at a cleaner and more spacious B&B than Mountain Goat Lodge, and innkeeper Gina works hard to keep it that way. The bed was comfortable, the views through the second floor windows were beautiful, and, of course, the goat cheese on my breakfast omelet was delicious. I was traveling alone and Gina immediately became my best friend. Our conversations were very real and heartfelt as we toured the hen house and greenhouse, and roamed with the goats on her amazing property. Quite amazing.

Dear ehc850,
Thank you so much for your review - and especially that you noticed how clean we are ! We try hard to keep it that way - ESPECIALLY since we have so many 4-legged guests. It can be challenging at times but totally worth the effort as we attribute a lot of our success to being so pet-friendly.
Hope you continue to do well and will include us in your future travel plans - I enjoyed our talks as well!

We stayed there for one night. Gina is an excellent host, really down to earth and likes to share the joys of her b&b. The goats were hilarious. My dog really wanted to play with them but we kept him on leash (running chickens abound). We even got to milk a goat in the morning, which was a fun experience. Really the only negative at this stay was that it was only about 300 feet from highway 285. The room was clean and new. And I forgot some items at the Mountain Goat and Gina mailed them to my house for me! Good stay!

Dear dooner24,
Thank you for your kind review. Glad you received your forgotten items. (This happens a lot!).
The goats and chickens are all doing well and we are keeping them warm for the winter. We are closing for a few weeks to take a vacation and also to do some upgrading. Hope you can come back in the near future.

The Mountain Goat Lodge was our first stop on our journey through Colorado, and our stay couldn't have been better.

From the scrumptious breakfasts to the magnificent views to the comfy bed, the MGL was an absolute delight. Gina our hostess made us feel right at home, albeit a home with many cute doggies, the eponymous goats, and llamas, alpacas and chickens.

Located a few hours southwest of Denver, outside the funky old town of Salida, the lodge lies in the foothills of the Rockies near the Collegiate Range, a series of 14,000 foot peaks named in honor of American colleges and universities. Also nearby are the headwaters of the Arkansas River, popular for rafting and other water sports, and less than two hours south are the Great Sand Dunes, a remarkable national park and preserve that literally takes your breath away, especially if you attempt a arduous hike to the top of the highest dunes.

All in all, we highly recommend the Mountain Goat Lodge, and we hope to return again one day.

Room Tip: The Princeton was quiet and comfortable with outstanding views of the mountains to the west.

Dear Farrellt7,
Thank you for taking the time to write such a thoughtful and informative review. We love our adventuresome guests that are not afraid to tackle a 14'r, the Sand Dunes, or just our large breakfasts!
Please come back anytime as we are a year-around destination. Fortunately we are not affected by the recent rains and floods that are plaguing our neighbors to the north. Happy trails!

This was our first B&B experience and absolutely loved it! Gina was an excellent host, an amazing cook and keeps a beautiful home. Her son provided some great insight on the farm, animals and area. Our room, the Princeton, had an amazing view, was very clean and quiet. Even though there were many dogs running around the common space, mostly from travelers, everything was impeccably clean and organized.

We will most definitely stay at the Mountain Goat Lodge again!
