We had a wonderful 3 nights at the Mountain Goat Lodge. Gina is friendly and she cooks excellent breakfasts! She introduced all the guests to each other and remembered our names. There were cookies/snacks and tea/coffee available all day. The shared area is comfortable and set up well for conversation. The rooms are large (for a B&B) and airy, with a desk and nice-sized closet area. The bathroom, while not all that special, included all the little things that make a stay more comfortable - like enough towel racks and a place to put toiletries. The owner's and guest's dogs are allowed to roam freely - which was great! I took both the chicken and goat care classes while my husband was skiing. While cold (it was January), the goat care class was very informative and helpful. The lodge's eggs and goat milk are highlighted in the breakfasts. We have stayed at many B & Bs and this is definitely at the top of the lists! We will stay here again if skiing Monarch.

Room Tip: Rooms with SE or NE exposure will be quieter (away from the road). Otherwise, the 4 standard rooms are all the same.

We booked here because it was pet friendly, it looked good and had good reviews. We have stayed in other pet friendly places before but this is the cleanest and nicest one we have ever stayed at. The rooms are large, clean and well themed, breakfast is amazing and Gina and her staff are super friendly. The property with goats, chickens and dogs is just fun. We will definitely stay here when we come back.

Room Tip: All rooms are good. We stayed in a suite that was large and a nice view. Just ask when reserving and they will tell you the best rooms available but they are all good.

I was calling blind - we wanted to ski Monarch but I hadn't been up there in about 30 years so couldn't remember the area AT ALL. Had been to Salida last summer and really enjoyed. Well Monarch isn't really a 'town' like Vail, Summit County - looks like there are places to maybe stay close to the ski resort, but there isn't much else around so Salida was perfect option (was 20 minutes from Mountain Goat to the parking lot to ski). I called a few places and no one answered but when I called Mountain Goat Gina answered and I knew immediately that was where we'd want to stay. She was delightful and welcoming and a wealth of information. Her 'farm' was delightful and her rooms were fantastic - very comfy beds. Pet friendly (which my dogs don't have good enough manners to take public) but what a nice option. The other guests were totally friendly. Had nice hot tub, great location, great views and lots to do. She recommended restaurants and stuff to see and do and recommended place to rent skis (Haus)- $25 at Monarch and only $15 at the Haus - Cody was great there too at the Haus. We rented day before so it was easy to get up and have the BEST homemade, healthy (organic) breakfast and then shoot up to buy lift ticket (which we had buy 1 get 1 free from Shell!) and ski as long as we wanted and then leave leisurely. We won't bother with I-70 any more - we will make Salida and Mountain Goat our year round get away! Went to Mt Princeton - pricey - $22 for 'family side' and $35 for whole access but even late at night so was nice to soak (and when dark avoid stepping on people in the shallows of the running water!) but too expensive for what you get unless you can be there for the day. Heard there were other springs we will check out on the next adventure.

Room Tip: Suites on main level can easily sleep 4 - didn't see rooms upstairs but surely they are very nice too!

I'm so happy you found us, Ruth. It made my day reading that you'll be stopping by again in the future.

As for the incredibly detailed review — thank you so much for taking the time to do so! I always love when our guests are able to relax and enjoy themselves at the lodge, while also really getting out and experiencing all that the area has to offer, and it certainly sounds as though you got the full range of activities down to a science.

We're already looking forward to when you come back!

Best,
Gina M., Owner

We stayed here while skiing at Monarch this winter (2014) and were very pleased. Great hosts and cool guest around the breakfast table. The yogurt and other goat milk products were handmade and the owners are former baristas that make a mean cup of joe. Nice rooms, good location and relaxing.

We had a great time feeding the goats and getting a tour of the place. The pancakes were too die for especially with the special syrup. We tried the goat milk and yogurt, both were quite tasty. Definitely a good destination for a quick trip down south.

Room Tip: Get one the suits if you can, the beds are bigger. The beds are comfortable; however, the springs were hard on the body if you have back problems.
