“Awesome stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2014 via mobile

Stayed Mother's Day weekend at Mountain Goat Lodge (2 adults, 2 kids) and had a great time. Gina is a great host, the room was huge (one of the suites) and breakfast was awesome. Place is super dog friendly and the kids had a super time interacting with the goats and chickens. B&B is really close to Salida, Monarch, and several Hot Springs. Will definitely be going back.

Thank you so much for writing a review - esp. so quick after your stay! No one was more surprised than me when I walked out and found a newborn baby goat - she was not due for 2 more weeks! Am so glad your kids could hold her and all that!
Also, if there was a TripAdvisor award for BEST BEHAVED KIDS EVER - your kids would be #1 on the list!
We hope you can come back soon, esp. since we are expecting a lot more kids (goat kids)...
Warmly,
Gina & Derek Marcell

My husband and I stayed at the Mt. Princeton room, it had a nice little balcony with a beautiful view of the mountains and the goats/chickens/llama area. The room was clean and it included a number of little details that made it special. We had access to coffee or tea 24hrs, also a little library with books and games. Common area is beautifully decorated and maintained. Breakfast was great, it included eggs, greens and Goat products right from the backyard (love it!!). Gina was really nice, very helpful, accommodating and easy to talk to. Would definitely recommend!

THIS IS REAL COLORADO! If you want to experience REAL Colorado visit Salida and stay at the Mountain Goat Lodge. I kind of hate to let the news out as I want to keep this as a secret for myself, but…..  Every Colorado activity you could want to experience (all seasons) is within a close distance of the Mountain Goat Lodge. Salida has great restaurants. The restaurants are right up there with those big expensive resort towns, but with real people prices. Gina runs the most beautiful inn with a million dollar view off her back porch. She doesn’t know it yet, but the next time I want to sleep on the porch.  Gina is the real deal in animal loving. She treated our dogs like kids which is how we think of them. They are our “kids.” The goats and chickens at the Mountain Goat Lodge are the best cared for I have ever seen. The barn and chicken coop are both beautifully maintained. They are some very lucky goats and chickens. The suites are huge with living and sleeping areas. The sheets are to die for!! I thought they were something like 900-thread count Egyptian cotton. They feel like silk. I will let Gina tell you the secret behind the wonderful sheets. Breakfast was fantastic. Gina knows how to cook and she makes it look sooooo easy, yet it turns out gourmet. Gina’s son, Derek, is one the funniest people I have every met. This young man is hilarious! I know the rating scale goes from 1 to 5 stars, but the weekend my husband, dogs, and I just had gets a 10! Thank you for providing us with the most perfect and fun time we have EVER had at a B&B. We’ll be baaaaack! That’s a threat and a promise! 

We stayed here for a long weekend in October 2013 and had an unforgettable experience. Our room faced the mountain, in all its fall splendor, and the herd of goats and alpacas below. It was entertaining just to sit on the patio and watch the baby goats playing. The location was ideal, too, for going to Salida, Mount Princeton, and Cottonwood Pass, and the helpful host Gina provided a useful list of directions for getting into town. The food Gina served every morning was amazing and she often cooked with goat cheese from the farm. I also enjoyed the snacks she put out every afternoon and the chai and coffee drinks she made in the morning. If you can get up early enough, you can watch the goats being milked in the morning--truly and unforgettable stay and one we would repeat in a heartbeat.

We just stayed 1 night as a halfway point from Denver to Telluride and we wish we could have stayed longer. Gina was the most gracious host and our puppies had a blast and were treated amazingly. Gina even provided us with a pack n play for our son. We highly recommend this amazing place and will definitely be back. The goats were so fun and breakfast was delicious. Thanks for a great stay!

Stayed in the Princeton room over Christmas 2013, which the views were great. The room was very nice and spacious with amenities such as the mini fridge with complementary water. The breakfast had a very generous selections of food items and coffee, teas and espresso. The host was very accommodating and hospitality for a B&B was very warm and inviting.

Room Tip: The Princeton room had great views especially in the morning during sunrise.

If Old Mac lived in THIS place, he would still be there! The accommodation afforded all the extras one could desire, including those available for our dog. The property includes 20 acres, and the barn and paddock area for the goats, llama, and assortment of chickens was well-kept. Fresh goats' milk and cheese is available, and one couldn't hope for any fresher and more wholesome eggs. My husband enjoyed some with his custom-cooked breakfast. A nice assortment of choices are available to suit individual preferences. The lodge also includes a large enclosed dog area, library, videos, outdoor hot tub (facing the peaks to the west; amazing number of stars at night we can't see near big city lights), treadmill, interesting greenhouse, and the entertainment of observing the antics of the animals. The facility is comfortably furnished and tastefully decorated in a modern western rustic style - I say modern because often "rustic" equates with uncomfortable and Old Seedy, but such is not the case. We also had the opportunity of viewing the other rooms, and we would have been happy in any of them. Even though probably not classified as a "resort," this accommodation provides the amusements and feeling of one, certainly head and shoulders above the traditional B & B or motel. Gina was a congenial and interesting hostess, and she made sure we had everything we needed. The lodge is on the west side of Hwy 285. Approaching from the south, it's about one and half miles past County Road 140; from the north, it's less than a mile south from Road 160. The tall spruce tree next to the road and well-lit sign make finding the lodge easy.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Sawatch suite, on the NW side of the lodge. It's on the lower floor, has a kin...
