“Ahhh.”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

The MGI is a treat. We stayed in the Mt Princeton room which was a great size and nicely appointed. The inn keeper was very friendly and served up an unexpectedly delicious breakfast. We awoke to the sound of a rooster crowing which was a hoot and got a tutorial on goat milking. Fun indeed.

And, try Fritz's in Salida for a fantastic dinner. Bib salad was divine.

Thank you so much for your sweet review and great comments. Yes the rooster is the natural alarm clock around here. I sure do enjoy recommending the Fritz as well - they are the best.
Hope to see you back soon, try the off-season, it is really quiet and nice.

Really good breakfasts. (Chilaquiles were AWESOME!) Really nice deck out back with an inspiring view of mountains plus goats, chickens, a llama and hummingbirds. Pretty convenient to downtown Salida.
Bummers: fire alarms went off several times one night between 2-4 in the morning and again the next afternoon. Very unpleasant inconvenience. We found our room very hot and uncomfortable at night and the swamp cooler didn't help. Maybe we were doing it wrong? Also, our room didn't get cleaned one day even though we were gone from 7 am to 3 pm. Really?
Otherwise, it's quite charming and we liked the dogs and the pet friendly policy.

I apologize for the smoke detector going off during the night which woke ALL OF US up. Trust me, this was not planned. As a safety device – all the detectors are wired together and thus it takes time to isolate and find the culprit dead battery. We change out the batteries every six months but sometimes get a bad battery that doesn’t last very long. Apparently one of the batteries also failed the next afternoon.
The fact that you didn’t understand the evaporative cooler doesn’t mean it did not work. We have instructions in each room, or, you could have asked us! Most people that come from a climate such as yours (Chicago) treat it like an a/c and leave the window shut while the unit is on. The reverse is actually true – you must keep a window open, and keep the unit filled with water for it to cool the room down.
Rooms are normally cleaned each morning but we apologize that due to staff shortages, yours was not cleaned until the end of the day. We are happy that you enjoyed our farm fresh breakfast and everything else about the lodge!

I knew I was in good hands with the booking procedures and followup FAQ. The attention to detail was followed through with our charming and clean room. Gina is warm, helpful and went out of her way to accommodate our earlier departures to provide us with breakfasts. Would have loved to hang out with the goats but her sweet dogs were delightful to meet.

It was our first time at the Mountain Goat Lodge and we will be back! It's a very comfortable place. The owners made us feel right at home. Gina was very accommodating with my diet restrictions, and the breakfast she made was delicious! Not to mention the yummy and included coffee drinks!! We loved the relaxed atmosphere and the peaceful farm setting. The rooms were good sized and very clean. Each with it's own little private balcony for taking in the views and fresh mountain air. You can enjoy a hike around the grounds visit the goats and chickens, check out the greenhouse and soak in the hot tub! A bed and breakfast worth visiting!

Thank you so much for your nice review. Yes we are very pet friendly and also family friendly. This has been a very busy summer season and so I would love to encourage you to come back during the off season to enjoy a quieter time here - perhaps when the leaves change color?
thanks so much again, we hope to see you again.

We stayed a couple of nights at this B&B and had a comfortable stay. The property has goats and chickens, and we enjoyed being able to watch the goats play and the chickens roam. Breakfast was good and plentiful. This is a dog friendly property. The owner has two dogs who spend their time in the communal gathering areas (breakfast and living room areas). Guests also bring their dogs so most of the time we were there we were around dogs. Their website makes it clear this is a dog friendly property so there are no surprises. The only animal that was noisy was the rooster that crowed pretty early in the morning frequently. We were awake by 6:30-7:00 each day because of the rooster. It didn't make our stay unpleasant, it's just something guests need to be aware of if selecting a room at the rear end of the B&B. However, that said, these rooms have some great views of the mountains. The B & B is in a central location so you can access a number of activities and sites easily. It is right on Hwy 285 so during the day there is a fair amount of traffic on the road, but it didn't disturb our sleep.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear of the house have great views of the mountains.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. We are always grateful for feedback and constantly strive to make the customer feel at home and also to improve our guest experience.
What can we say about the animals? We do make it perfectly clear we are pet-friendly, and are actually a little farm. There are lots of animals, noises and the various activities of the farm. We realize not everyone likes animals as much as we do, and try to make that perfectly clear up front so that no one is mislead. Sometimes we get lots of dogs, like the days that you were here, and other times - not any at all!!
Indeed the rooster has a pretty strong set of vocal chords but all in all the rooms in the back (facing the mountains) are generally favored as the noises of animals trump the highway noises for most people. I am glad you liked the food and friendly hospitality!

We rented the entire Mountain Goat Lodge for a long family weekend. It was a perfect choice. The lodge ( large log cabin with high ceilings and gorgeous views ) was more than we expected. Each room upstairs were spacious and had small private baths and all rooms had balconies with beautiful views. The bottom two "suites" were huge with living area and bedroom. Large enough for 4-5 people each. The kids loved milking the goats and watching the baby goat dance. Free roaming chickens who were very friendly made the stay even more enjoyable. We brought our two dogs and there is a large fenced area they could run and play in. The latte's made with fresh goats milk were delicious as well as the breakfasts. Homemade yogurt with fresh berries and cinnamon rolls. The hosts were so friendly and accommodating. The lodge is in a great location to downtown Salida ( only 10 min drive ). Walking into the lodge for the first time, you see the high floor to ceiling windows with views that are jaw dropping. Whether you are looking for a romantic weekend away or a family get together, this is a fun, relaxing and comfortable place to be. Glad we made this choice!

Room Tip: All rooms have beautiful views and a small private balcony.

Thank you so much for your great review! We are glad your family was able to relax and enjoy our little slice of heaven. The goats are entertaining and a valuable education for kids to see where the milk and eggs come from.
We are always delighted when a group or family reunion makes the effort to get together. I know it is no small feat to get so many people together for a vacation at the same time!
We hope to see you back in the near future!
