“New hotel but fit and finish lacking”
Reviewed 5 August 2012 via mobile

Our rooms are on the top floor and show signs of water leaks from the roof and walls. It seems like the owner of this hotel did the bare minimum to be a Hampton Inn. We like Hamptons but this is not one of the better ones. Rooms are clean but we found a plastic price tag holder in our sheets that would be attached to a shirt one would buy. Great town with lots to do in the near by mountains and river.

Everything went well and the facility is nice, but the small details were overlooked. No extra toilet paper, only regular in room coffee, no sheets for the pull out couch, no extra pillows, only 3 big towels for a family of 5... stuff like that.
But the rooms have an open plan which works really well for families to spread out a bit. And all in all it was clean. Very simple options for the breakfast.
We would stay again though because all the problems were small ones and easily fixed.

We checked in an hour after we were suppose to. The room we got was not cleaned when we went to it. We had carried all our luggage to the 3 rd floor room. My husband went back to the front desk and shared that the room we were assigned was not clean. He was told to wait 15 min. Until it got cleaned. He told the girl that check in was over an hour ago and that he should be compensated. The girl just left as was did not come back to help him. After a few minutes the manager came over and assigned him a new room bur we were never compensated.

When we got to our new room, there was enough room for the 3 of us, but there are several issues. This is a new hotel and there is no fan in the bathroom, the bathroom door has a VERY loud squeak, there is no microwave or refrigerator and they do not have any luggage stands. I hate putting my luggage on the floor so we had to put our three suitcases on other furniture. When I contacted the front desk about the squeaky bathroom door the staff person told me that the maintance person had left for the day. I told her to just give us some WD40 and she said she did not have access to the maintance room. She apologized for the inconvience, but really could not do anything about it. She did then tell me she was giving us the $90 rate.

Definitely had a bad start to our stay here. We are just happy it is for only one night. The sad part is that we had been driven several hour before we got hear and were looking to just relax.

We stayed in a room with two queen beds with our two teenagers. This location allowed for an easy drive into the historic part of town, but not an easy walk for the teens to go off on their own. The business center was all we needed for internet. Teens weren't allowed in the fitness center and the pool was not particularly inviting. They have a good coin-op laundry set up. The desk was adequately staffed and the employees were helpful. Breakfast included many options and was available early. The only disappointment was the fresh fruit which had sat cut up in a metal container in a fridge for way too long.

WARNING - although this is new building, there is NO WiFi in the rooms and the WiFi in the public areas was very spotty. They did provide a fat Ethernet cable. However, my laptop and phone no longer have ports for that outdated technology.

That said, the staff at the Salida Hampton Inn were very helpful and accommodating. This is the only reason why they scored three stars. Here's our take:

Pros:
* New well-appointed & clean building
* Large shower with nice tiles
* Impressive hot breakfast
* Helpful staff

Cons:
* No WiFi (get real... mobile connectivity abounds everywhere else, even gas stations!)
* Small room & very small TV
* Bed incredibly hard - did not get a good sleep

Overall, we could NOT stay here again because we slept poorly and it was impossible to get any work done.

Room Tip: Rooms on the highway are noisier

Just not a good family hotel. Complimentary breakfast was horrible and we had to go pay for breakfast elsewhere. Pool is small. If you travel ae a family...look elsewhere.

All in all a decent motel with a clean, fresh and up to date atmosphere. We stayed with our 2 children in a 2 queen bedroom which had everything we needed. The only downside from the room was the poorly placed AC unit: very loud even at the lowest setting and the wind was directly blowing towards the bed we were sleeping in. We ended up turning the unit on and off the entire time, balancing between a sore throat from the cold wind and being too hot.

Service was however friendly and the kids really enjoyed the pool, which was indoor and average size but otherwise also very clean. I was using the gym which overlooked the pool: about 6 exercise machines were available and it had excellent air cooling. Unfortunately no hometrainers or any cycling equipment that was working (one cycling machine was broken).

Breakfast was basic but sufficient, service was friendly. All in all a positive stay with a few minor drawbacks as mentioned.
