“All-Around Fantastic! Give it another try - the first year growing pains have been worked out.”

The River's Edge is really growing on me. It's the place I always take my out-of-town visitors to show off one of the best places in Salida. Now that it's the winter season, I've really noticed how great their food and drinks are, I've found it to be wonderfully cozy, friendly, and the service is absolutely great, now that they've worked through their difficulties of shaping this place during their first year. If you were ever turned off by the River's Edge, it really deserves another visit. The menu has been evolving, the atmosphere is improving all the time, and the service has gotten much better. It's obviously wonderful to sit out on a summer evening by the river, but the winter is great here too.
Last night, my friends and I had a fun time sharing a bunch of deliciously flavorful and unique appetizers, and the cosmo I had was outrageously good and artfully presented. I've also had excellent breakfasts and lunches with family and friends at the River's Edge. Their coffee might be the best in Salida. I've had great times here when the place is packed with an excellent band.
This place is amazingly affordable for what you get.

“Great beer list, good food, great location, lacking service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 October 2013

We went to the Rivers Edge on a chilly October night. They had the heaters turned up on the deck and it was a fantastic view of the Ark. Their beer list brought us in (they serve several Elevation beers on tap from nearby Poncha Springs) and we ended up staying for dinner too. The pulled pork sandwhich and fires was pretty tasty and a good portion. The service was the only thing that brought us down, and might steer us away in the future. The waiter was quite annoyed and bothered when asked about the menu, and refused to ask the cooks about ingredients for anything on the menu. Not a big deal, except for when someone in your party has a major food allergen (and a very common one). I understand no one can guarantee cross contamination of an allergen in your kitchen, but come on just ask your cook if it's one of the ingredients! Simple yes or no answer. Not sure if we will be back with all the other great dining spots in town.

“great food; slow service; better management needed”

Ate outside under an umbrella - waitress was efficient; bar and cooks inefficient; good beer list; wonderful menu and well-prepared food.

“SO SO”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 September 2013

Based on recommendations from a local we ate a River's Edge on a rainy evening last week. The patio was deserted and no one was rafting or kayaking on the river. If the weather had cooperated the place would probably have been jumping with activities.Service was good, Kirby was helpful and attentive as was the bar tender. Because of the openness at one end of the restaurant area it was quite exposed to the weather which was chilly. The whole time we were there only four at the bar and three other couples were drinking or dining during our stay. The food was pretty much standard. We would probably try another place if we were in the area again

“Good roadhouse food with flair”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 September 2013

A Cuban sandwich and a Thai inspired pulled pork sandwich was very good. Liked the location, service was good, wait staff was pleasant and the food came out in a timely manner. A little off putting to the spouse was the dag wandering around and begging for scraps but the dog wasn't a nuisance and would move away when it realized no treats were coming.
