“Relaxing, Comfortable and Convenient Bit of Old Florida”
Reviewed 16 July 2013

My husband, teenage daughter and I stayed at the Vilano Beach Garden Inn as we could not get a second night at the St. Augustine Beach House, a sister property. The Garden Inn is not right on the beach, but was only a few short blocks away, and also, very close to the Vilano Pier, which is a lovely place to walk, watch boats, go fishing or just relax. Everything is walking distance in that part of Vilano Beach, with a Publix just up the street, a very good Chinese restaurant, China Wok, where we got delicious take out, and some very tasty restaurants, like 180 Vilano right across the street, or Beaches, just a two minute walk down by the pier. The location is really perfect, just 5 minutes across the bridge to historic St. Augustine. The hotel itself is a restored, old-timey Florida motel, renovated beautifully inside with comfortable, large rooms, cushy four poster beds, a small fridge, large big screen tv, coffee maker and microwave. We had a king suite, with a separate area for a Queen sized pull out couch. Their is a continental breakfast in the office in the morning, and we were greeted by the very friendly Janie, who clearly loves her job and is a great ambassador for the area. We ate our breakfast at a lovely table outside, and also enjoyed sitting by the koi pond in the courtyard. There is some construction going on outside, and we heard there is a plan to have a pool in the future, but we heard nothing but the birds and the gurgling of the koi pond when we were there...very quiet and relaxing. We would definitely recommend and would definitely return. (I would recommend, though, that the management accept AAA or AARP discounts for this property--they do not currently). Give this sweet place a try if you plan to be in the area, you won't be sorry!

As a family of 4 we wanted to stay close to the beach to visit St Augustine. We made reservations at this location because there were no others available for our dates. Garden Inn was also referred by a sister company. Pros: the room was clean and it was spacious for our needs; walking distance to the beach, nearby restaurants, the pier, some shops and Publix supermarket. Service was great and very personable. Breakfast items available and complimentary.
Cute retro style.
Cons: no pool. Don't expect any fancy amenities , as it is an old structure. Sleeping couch for the kids very uncomfortable, but our king bed was good. Fees were high for the level of amenities ( for the king size suite with couch)
We would definitely go back as couple, not sure as a family, due to comfort level and lack of amenities.

We very much appreciate your comments. The Inn is newly renovated and we continue to try to improve in any way possible. We agree - the location is really convenient; walking distance to Publix, restaurants and both the ocean and the fishing pier. We just purchased the new sofa beds so it is disappointing to hear they are not comfortable - we will look into that concern. Thank you again for your review and we do hope you will choose to stay with us again soon.

It was an enjoyable weekend stay in a refurbished 60's era hotel in the middle of the strip from ocean to inlet.Breakfast was offered bagels, cold cereal, hot flavored coffee choices , juice, fresh pasteries and friendly staff.Very relaxed, great sunsets and friendly people.Easy to travel to Historic areas and then return to quieter beach and small restaurants. Found 180 Vilano Grill , great food ,staff and service.Overall I would return for another visit to this area.

Thank you for your review of the Garden Inn. We have worked to bring this retro style, old-Florida motor inn back to life, so while the building is refinished, the furnishings are a combination of brand new and classic antiques. We hope you were comfortable during your stayed and we truly do hope you will plan to return. Regards from our entire staff.

Clean, friendly, convenient, and cute.

Bed was comfortable and sheets were clean!
Bathroom was clean and up to my standards. Bathroom was a little small though.

I would come back. They let us check in early like at 11 am because we had a wedding to be at at 2 pm. They gave us a basket with snacks which er really enjoyed and the staff was super friendly. I loved that they had make up removal towels in the room!!

Negatives - Tile floors were really cold and bare. A rug would be nice. Only one small mirror in the small bathroom. We were going to a wedding and my husband needed to shave and I needed to do my hair and makeup, but we had trouble with one mirror. I would add a rug and a full length mirror by an outlet. Full length bc we couldn't see how we looked in any mirror. Bathroom mirror only showed neck up.

Overall a great hotel experience.
