“Tri it, you'll like it !”
Reviewed 21 August 2007

I am a nature photographer who was day-hiking the San Juan Range and used Silverton (and the Triangle Motel) as my base of operations. I couldn't have been happier with the accomodations. For $60 per night, I got a spacious kitchen unit that, unlike many in which I've stayed, included everything from soup to nuts. Plates, cups, silverware, pots and pans, coffee maker, microwave, telephone, paper towels, etc., in addition to a sizable stove and fridge. Even shampoo was provided daily and the room was spotless each evening upon my return. And, there was one more perk I feel compelled to mention. In this summer of horrific air travel, my flight from Providence to Denver was cancelled and I was forced to arrive in Silverton one day later than expected. I had reserved my room on a credit card for that first night and they were well within their rights to charge me for it even though I couldn't show. They very graciously chose not to. This act of consideration and understanding meant a great deal to me for sure. There are other areas in the San Juans I will be returning to hike and photograph in the future. I doubt whether I will be looking anywhere else for a place to stay.

Second stay at the Triangle Motel.

If one is looking for a quiet romantic getaway spot, I would say to explore another accomodation- but those looking for basic rooms to use as a "base of operation" in the Silverton area, read on.

The rooms:
On our first visit we stayed in a regular room upstairs, this time we stayed in one of the efficiency apartments downstairs. ( they call them Studios) Accomodations in all cases are somewhat basic and may include some mismatched decor but are generally servicable. Efficiency room featured a Qieen bed, an single bed, and a small fridge, stove, sink some cookware/ untensils and small dinette table. The rooms are not air conditioned, but this is generally not a problem since Silverton is 9317 feet above sea level and can get into the 40s F at night in the summer.

Facilities are maintained but not kept up to much of a sheen. This is not a glossy place, but Silverton is not a glossy town so the Triangle Motel fits right in.

This property gets a lot of guests who are either renting Jeeps onsite or bringing their own into Silverton, and also seems to be a favorite of bikers passing through. That may put some people off but the only real issue it creates is that the relatively small parking area in front of the rooms can get overwhelmed with vehicles at times and the coming and going and loading/ unloading causes a little hubub. There is a side parking area that serves as overflow ( trailers) as well as a few parking spaces out front.on the street.

It is relatively quiet at nite, despite the day activity. For the most part the Motel appeals to and caters to mature travellers out enjoying the 4WD and hiking trails by day and who then call it a day by 10pm.

While there is no food immediately next to the motel , it is a walkable 3-4 blocks to most of the downtown Silverton establishments and somewhat convenient to most of what you need.
