Our time in Silverton Colorado was fun and very relaxing. We just by chance came across the Villa Dallavalle Inn & B&B. We really lucked out. Our hostess Pam Welty made us feel right at home. We met a few of the great people of Silverton that evenig in the sitting room for a neighbor hood "sing" The music was great and we had a blast.
We would go back there in a heart beat. We hope Pam and all the other new friends we made will still be there as they made our visit and memories awsome. Thanks guys your all are great.

We spent five days in the Silverton area, driving the trails there in our Jeeps. It meant long and dusty days, and we needed a comfortable place to sleep every night. The Villa Dallavalle ended up being nearly perfect.

In my opinion, unless you're looking for a more "touristy" stay, avoid staying in Ouray. Ouray is like Disneyland -- completely designed for the tourist trade. You can't walk very far without finding a t-shirt shop or overpriced restaurant. Silverton, on the other hand, is still a small mining town with real residents. Sure, it has a few tourist attractions but no more than any other small town on a major highway. In Silverton, you can get a better feel for the area and its history.

We hurried to get to the Villa Dallavalle, barely reaching the location in time to check in before the owners went to bed. Both Silverton and Ouray effectively shut down for the day at 9PM, so if you want to grab a bite to eat or talk to anyone in either town you should do it before then. We met with Nancy, one of the owners, and she was thrilled to see us. We had made our reservations over the phone with another friend for two rooms, and the reservations weren't accurate. She fixed them, and everything worked out fine.

The rooms are small but cozy. The bed was comfortable, and the Villa Dallavalle is one of the few places in town to offer televisions in the room. We had the only room with a king-sized bed which was also the only room without a window. We had a skylight instead.

The bathroom was very, very small. The shower was also incredibly small. I am short (5'3") and I had to move the shower head to the side quite often just to get out of the spray. These things aside, the water pressure and temperature were both good.

They have a hot tub, but we never took the time to use it. Another guest said it was very nice, however.

The best part was breakfast, in my opinion. It is only served from 8AM to 9AM, but it is home-cooked. We had something different every morning, from pancakes to oatmeal to eggs and bacon. It was all very good, served on a large, single table. That meant that we got to know our fellow guests, which was a nice surprise. Everyone was happy and conversations were fun.

We rarely got back in time to see anyone in the evenings, but Nancy made sure to tell us that we should come and go as we please, at any time. She was always very friendly.

It rained the last day we were there and our skylight had a leak. Otherwise, the room was very comfortable right up to the end. The maid service was very good.

When we were talking with Nancy on our last night, we found that our reservations were still not correct. She fixed them yet again. It seems that the reservation process is very manual and relaxed there, so you should double-check your reservation before arriving and after arriving to make sure you'll have your room.

I highly recommend a stay in the Villa Dallavalle when you are in the San Juan Mountains. It is also very close to the train stop with a very convenient location. Though there are a few inconveniences that come hand-in-hand with staying in a low-key bed and breakfast inn, the finer points of the Villa Dallavalle greatly overshadow these minor items.

I recently stayed at the Villa Dallavalle Inn, bed and breakfast, in Silverton Colorado. Wow! I've never had such a great experience while vacationing. First, their B&B was quaint, cozy, friendly, and extremely accommodating.
My hosts, Gerald and Nancy Swanson, were friendly and caring, just like being with family members. And, they were a plethora of interesting and helpful information about Silverton, its friendly residents, the many shops and restaurants, and the old mining ghost towns in the surrounding areas.
I really enjoyed their great breakfasts each morning. We all sat at the large dining table with other guests. It was kind of like being at home. The breakfasts had a little of everything to offer. We had the choices of scrambled eggs, bread and various jellies, bacon, pancakes and syrup, yogurt, cereal and milk, coffee, and orange juice (which, by the way, tasted like fresh squeezed).
After a week there, it was extremely difficult for me to leave. All I could think of on my way back home was how badly I wanted to return to the coziness and comfort and friendly atmosphere of the Villa Dallavalle and its charming hosts, Gerald and Nancy Swanson.
Here's to another great stay next summer at this wonderful bed and breakfast in Silverton, Colorado.

A great old building! Built in 1901 by the family of the present owners. The rooms are cozy, beautifully decorated in period style with really neat historical photos and documents on the walls. Simple and unassuming, they still offer all the amenities...phone, TV, internet access and a hot tub in the back yard. They serve a full breakfast, boarding house style in the morning and have a wine and cheese get together in the evening. We met lots of friendly and interesting people. Gerald and Nancy Swanson are warm and accomodating. If you're interested in Silverton history, Gerald is a walking encyclopedia. We stayed there for 5 days and will definitely go back!

My wife and stayed in the Villa DellaVale for an evening after skiing at Silverton Mountain. The experience was mixed. On the one hand, the room was nicely appointed, if a little small, and very clean. On the other hand, our room was very noisy. It was connected by a closed door to an adjacent room. Throughout the night we could hear our neighbor talking, snoring, sneezing, brushing his teeth, etc. He was not particularly loud, but it sounded as if we were in the same room.

In fairness to the inn keeper, when we spoke the next morning about this problem, he indicated that he generally would not put someone next to an occupied room unless the B&B was fully booked and only did so in our case because my wife checked in early and he thought she might like to watch TV during the day. (Apparently the room he originally intended to book us in -- which was not next to an occupied room -- did not have a properly functioning TV.)

Regardless of the reason however, travellers considering this B&B may wish to make sure that no one is in an adjoining room, as the odds of a peaceful night's sleep will decline dramatically if someone is next door.

Breakfast was adequate: scrambled eggs, biscuits, jelly, luke-warm cinnamon-flavored coffee, reconstituted OJ.

Popped in to see what was available. Nice historic rooms all en-suite. Given a good price as it was a quiet night.
Friendly hosts who offered good advice about places to walk.
