5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 February 2013

Great B & B!!! Dani, Annie, and owner Bob are very friendly and helpful of things to do and where to go. The lodge is very nice inside and out. Huge deck and pond. Inside the sunroom lets in so much light. Breakfast was great every day. We stayed in the Monarch room, highly recommend this room. Nice log pole queen bed, fireplace, and big bathroom with whirlpool tub.

Dani and Annie made our 3 nights there a wonderful experience, and their breakfasts really started our days off right. Mariposa's setting was the right combo of close to town, but in a setting that let us enjoy the nighttime stars and the local fox's fluffy tail as it sniffed around outside near the creek just before breakfast. Good rooms and common space. They (and their supply of maps and local guides) sure helped us plan our days' activities. Good value and good times!

We spent Friday and Saturday nights at the Mariposa -- our first stay there -- in connection with a long-weekend getaway we'd planned back in July. Our plans also included eating at a favorite restaurant (Mahogany Ridge) and trying a new one, to us, anyway (Three Peaks Grill). The highlight of our long weekend was a hike up Hahns Peak, approximately 30 miles north of Steamboat.

We arrived at the Mariposa mid-afternoon on Friday. Located at the end of Grand Street and adjacent to a ranch -- and, across the street, some apartment buildings -- the place has decent curb appeal, and is situated next to what has become, with the current drought, a seasonal stream. We found our welcome letter next to another by the front door; it instructed us to make ourselves at home, and call Dani (whom we would meet in the morning) if we needed anything.

The property consists of four guest rooms, a good-sized and well-appointed kitchen, a dining area with a massive log dining table for eight, and a small living space with a television, DVD player and wood stove. There were also games and books, including several volumes on hikes and climbs in the area.

We had reserved the Oso room, which is the next-to-most-expensive of the four. When we walked in, we found a curious mix of southwestern, Americana and wicker, including a carved lodgepole headboard topped with carved bear heads (hence the name of the room). There was a smallish but adequate L-shaped room housing the bed, nightstands and a wicker dresser, an unremarkable bathroom with a tub/shower combination, and a small adjoinging (sitting?) room housing a wardrobe and a chair. While my spouse found the room "nicely decorated," I found the decor somewhat confusing. The room was undeniably comfortable, however.

Each morning, Dani (not the owner, as indicated by another reviewer, but an employee) fixed an outstanding breakfast (tomato and basil Frittatas, with sausage links, blueberry cornbread and fresh fruit on Saturday, and a French Toast casserole with bacon and fresh fruit on Sunday). She was very pleasant and helpful.

As the title indicates, we found the property to be nice, quiet and clean, but at $179 per night, we both expected just a little more. Perhaps the decor could have been more consistent. Perhaps the room could have had a jetted tub. While we would not hesitate to stay at the Mariposa again, we will probably investigate other alternatives before doing so.

Room Tip: The Monarch room, for only $10 per night more than the Oso, is a lot more room, and includes a firep...

Just spent 5 days at the Mariposa Lodge B & B in Steamboat Springs - had a delightful time. Annie, Dani & Bob were warm, accomodating and helpful. The breakfasts were great, and kept you going all day. They were very helpful with suggestions and tips about loal attractions & restaurants. We plan to get back to Steamboat Springs when we can, and plan to stay at Mariposa Lodge B & B when we do.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Monarch Room, which has a gas fireplace for cool evenings....

The room was nice, breakfasts were great and the staff was very helpful in suggesting fun activities. It was a great get-away for my wife and me. While we didn't, but if you just want to rock on the porch you can do that too.

My wife and I were pleased to arrive at the lodge and find it relatively secluded (away from the town bustle), clean and cozy. Dani, the owner, was not there when we arrived, but she left a note welcoming us and giving us direction to our room. We formally met Dani the next morning, as she busied herself making us a wonderful breakfast. The sunroom was a great room for relaxing, and the living room was very comfortable. Morning conversation in the lovely kitchen area was enjoyable. The lodge was within a short distance of everything we wanted to see. We enjoyed our brief visit and wouldn't hesitate to stay again should the opportunity arise.

My husband and I stayed 3 nights at the Mariposa in October 2011. It was a getaway for my birthday...from the hustle and bustle of life...etc. We stayed in the large room near the front of the house with the queen size bed and fireplace. We loved the southwestern decor - the kitchen and sunroom were lovely. The location is in the back of a neighborhood - it is a rather long walk to the main street, but do-able. We usually drove.

Each morning, we woke to the smell of a delicious breakfast. Dani was warm and hospitable from the first second we met her. Like us, she was originally from Virginia and had even worked in Steamboat with a friend of ours. Her breakfasts were FABULOUS and she was so helpful in deciding what activities, hikes, etc. we should check out while in Steamboat. She recommended some wonderful restaurants. She knew I was a dog-lover and even brought over her dogs for me to meet on my birthday (at my request). I can't say enough nice things about Dani - she made our stay the best B&B experience I've had to date. We hope to be back one day!

Room Tip: Go for the room with fireplace! It has an automatic timer, so we would fall asleep with it on each n...
