Mariposa Lodge Bed and Breakfast
Reviewed 21 March 2005

Usually when I travel, all I require is a place that is safe, conveniently located and clean, after all, I am just looking for a place to be unconscious and sleep.

Paul's place is more than that. It's a "traveler's find". You certainly can stay here to just sleep, but you'd be missing out. Paul makes you feel right at home. Your day starts off right with a flavorfuland sizeable breakfast (e.g. homemade French Taost with real maple syrup, or bacon & eggs, or southwestern juevos with a cup of strong hot coffeeor tea) in his kithchen that is guaranteed to keep your energy leavl high while your skiing down the mountain of fly fishing in the back country. Breakfast is topped off with some interesting conversation with Paul, his other guests, or some of the locals who stop by to say "hi".

Paul built his place ( literallly, he's an expereinced carpenter) with the help of friends and they did a beautiful job. Not your typical Colorado Victorian, it's a Southwestern Santa Fe style home that he shares with his dog Chica, and his guests. His place is in town, but tucked away from the commercialism, or craziness of a tourist area.

If you're new to the Steamboat area, Paul will help you find whatever it is you're looking for, be it a good place to rent skis, or where to go for good local back country cross country skiing or hiking. If you want to check out the nighlife, his place is less than 5 minutes off of main street (by car)and he'll give you the skinny on the local spots.

By the time you leave, you feel like you really got to know Steamboat from the inside out. I wouldn't stay anyplace else. If you read this, and decide decide to check him out, please tell him "Robin " sent you, and that I'll be back! Thanks.

I must contain myself when I speak of the Mariposa since there is not a thing that simply is not perfect. From the casual lassez faire attitude of the owner, Paul Greco, to the inspired authentic southwestern decor, to the overwhelmingly delicious and fulfilling breakfasts! This is truly a b&b's b&b!

10 years ago..Former ski patrolman and present fisherman (Paul) built a Santa Fe style house by hand...started a great B&B. Log beds, quiet pond, intimate setting, and Gourmet beakfast with espresso included in the room price!! Yum. We had big slabs of french toast, peaches, canadian bacon. Condos cannot compare with the graciousness provided by this friendly incredible host. 2 experienced travelors never had a better hotsprings vacation...Josie and Lori

A wonderful spot! My girlfriend and I stayed at Mariposa charming little B&B and had a great time. The place is very clean and has a one of a kind Santa-Fe-like atmosphere. The morning cappuccino, French toast, Canadian bacon and fresh fruit were just delicious. Paul is a great host and a wonderful chef. He lets you have your privacy but you can feel his generous concern about your stay satisfaction. Highly recommend! (For the ladies: I think Paul might be quite a catch still single!)

Mariposa Bed & Breakfast was a nice surprise. It is a quiet place to stay and the hospitality was wonderful. Paul made us feel welcome and and the breakfast was leasurely and very good. The southwest theme is carried out in the rooms and the food. Recommend going to the Strawberry Park hotsprings.

My husband & I stayed at the Mariposa over the 4th of July weekend for our 10-year anniversary. The house is great, the garden is beautiful and inviting, the sun room is cozy, the deck has the best view of the fireworks! Paul Greco is a gracious and generous host, a fabulous cook (must be his Italian roots!), and a gifted carpenter. Loved it, loved it, loved it, and can't wait to bring the kids with us next time! THE place to stay year-round.

I can't believe this is the first review on this wonderful place! The owner, Paul, is a friendly, gracious host and an excellent cook! His home (built with his own hands) is beautiful, roomy & very comfortable. The deck, pond, garden & sunroom are all wonderful places to relax. This is the only place we will stay from now on in Steamboat! Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!
