“Great Stay at the Grand”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 February 2014 via mobile

My family and I recently stayed at the Steamboat Grand for a one-week vacation over our Winter Break, and were very pleased with our experience. Having never been to Steamboat Springs before, we found The Grand online and decided to give it a try, based on other travel reviews, the website, etc. Everything went very smoothly, from our airport shuttle to the hotel, check-in and settling into our very spacious 2-bedroom condo. The kitchen/living area was quite roomy and comfortable for our family of four, and the fireplace made even the coldest days very comfy. Our master bedroom also had a fireplace, and 3 full baths in the condo came in very handy. The Grand is also right across the street from the mountain, which was very convenient, as was the ski/snowboard gear storage/valet, so we never had to bring back any snowy gear after a day on the slopes. The air in the condos was extremely dry and each room comes with a humidifier; the only problem arose when none of them worked (either no filter or a grungy one I didn't care to use) but we managed. We also had a couple of minor housekeeping issues but nothing serious. The hotel also offers regular, free shuttle service into town and to local retail strips for groceries, restaurants, movies, etc. Very convenient! The day before we were scheduled to leave, we found out our Saturday flight was cancelled and bumped to Monday morning and we let the front desk know on our way to dinner that we were going to need 2 extra nights (even though the Steamboat Music Festival was just getting underway). The staff went above and beyond and found very similar accommodations for us by the time we got back from dinner! They also took care of moving our bags to the new condo the next morning. We had a great stay at The Steamboat Grand and I would definitely return.

This January, I stayed in the Steamboat Grand for 12 days with my family. We were up on the fifth floor in a very large room (they upgraded us at no extra charge which was really nice!). The room was modern and homely at the same time and the housekeeping staff were excellent. Breakfast was included in the hotel package which we had and it was served on the first floor of the hotel each day in the hotel restaurant/bar area. There was so much to choose from in the buffet, aswell as an omelette station. The Hot tub and pool areas were a great place to relax and meet people after skiing each day, and the gym was very well-equipped. The hotel also had a sauna and steamroom. It was great to be able to leave your skis and boots in the Grand Storage (free of charge!) across the road from the hotel and just pick them up on your way to the slopes each day and leave them there are the end of the day. Overall, the Grand is probably about a 300 metre walk from the Gondola, so it really is in the perfect location. The staff were all exceptionally friendly and your hotel room/kitchenette in the room are well stocked with everything you need to make your stay comfortable. I had a great time and if I ever return to Steamboat, this will be my first option for accomodation!

I have made an annual trek to Steamboat Springs for years and always find my self returning to the Steamboat Grand. Although maybe not a true ski in - ski out, I believe that it provides greater convenience than many that are. While at many other properties you can simply put on your skis and ski down to the gondola, returning home is not so easy. The Grand is a short walk to and from the gondola plus lockers are available at the base.

Stayed here on a recent trip to Steamboat for skiing and have no complaints. Basic hotel room with 2 beds, sower/bath combo, flat screen TV and sufficient closet space. Nothing truly outstanding but overall very good. The bed was comfortable and warm. Shower was warm. Maid service was prompt and efficient. The room was clean when I got there, nothing to complain about. This is not a fancy Hotel like the St. Regis in Aspen but I wasn't expecting that. I'd stay here again!

Plus Steamboat Ski Area's base facilities and gondola ate right across the street. You don't have to trudge a great distance in ski boots just to get to the mountain. The hotel even provides a slope-side ski check so you don't have to carry your ski's from the room either. A resort shuttle runs most of the day between the hotel and downtown Steamboat Springs with its shops and restaurants, making a car unnecessary. No complaints from me. The room might be a little on the "basic" side but that's never been that big of a deal. Would stay here again!

Very nice hotel. Had I realized the Sheraton was closer to the gondola I would have stayed there, but our conference was at the Grand and everything was pretty convenient. Good conference facilities, decent food and catering services (the super cheap wontons and other catering items make the quality provided seem lower)...our room was nice. The bottom of our bathroom door was ripped to shreds and it seemed like something that would be fixed because it looked so bad. Otherwise our jacuzzi and gas fireplace were the highlights -- super nice accommodations, great view off our balcony. We got a late checkout and were pretty happy with the experience. I found the price of parking to be obnoxious -- you are in the middle of nowhere, Colorado, and they charge $26 or something a day for parking. That is absurd even for a ski resort. Otherwise nice stay.

We arrived early for our check having driven up from Denver airport and our 2bed apartment was ready. It was huge. The lounge was enormous and had a fantastic double sofa bed and the bathrooms were great. The fires were wonderful (though we did make a lot of use of the humidifiers as the kids were enjoying giving us electric shocks far too much!) and the whole place was very cosy. The kitchen was great - all the things we needed and bathrooms were great too - super huge tub in our room. The housekeeping staff were very efficient and kept our place very clean and tidy and re-stocked every day. We chose the breakfast buffet option which though not enormous, was completely enough - waffles, omelettes, fruit, bacon etc. Service staff in the morning were very helpful. We ate in the restaurant on 2 nights and one night the service was top notch and the other night, not really so. But in all cases the food was very good - the elk fillet was wonderful.
Location wise (we were there for skiing) it's great as you can walk to the slopes ski boots on with no steps. The other thing is if you have kids look out for red trolleys to load all the kit into - free and you just leave them at very convenient drop off points around the resort. The hotel staff generally were all very helpful and it was after we left that they really were exceptional. I realised when we in the next stop over 6 hours away that I had left my Kindle there. I phoned them and they had it, already in safekeeping and were happy to courier it to me the next day. Fantastic - cannot speak highly enough of them for that. All in, yes we would stay there again.

Room Tip: We had a 2 bed room apartment / condo and the second bathroom was huge!

Highly recommend the Steamboat Grand. We had a King size condo which was very spacious. Large lounge (with fireplace), dining area, fully self-contained kitchen (not that we used it!), good sized bathroom with double sink and great water pressure in the shower, and bedroom with king sized bed and a small balcony with great views to the mountain. Free internet which is great.
Breakfast was included in our package so there was always fresh fruit, cereals, eggs, bacon, French toast, scones etc plus omelettes made to order so plenty to start you off for the day. There was also a café where you could buy various snacks such as muffins, pizzas etc and drinks – alcoholic and non-alcoholic.
The gym has been recently updated with new equipment and the hot tub (two of them) are an absolute treat after spending time on the slopes. There is also a heated pool.
All ski equipment can be hired from the hotel then stored at the Grand Storage across the road so you don’t have to lug it back to the hotel.
A mini bus operates from the resort from 1.15pm (then every 30 minutes) into town. It then operates every 15 minutes from about 5.00pm. When you have finished in town all you need do is ring the resort and they will send the bus to pick you up….it’s an extremely efficient service….if they say they will be there in six minutes they are! This is a free service. There are plenty of stores (Walmart, Safeways etc), boutiques, bars, restaurants – try Fiesta Jalisco for Mexican – in town and Mambo Italiano – yum!
There are a number of other bars around the base of the mountain plus shops selling ski gear.
The slopes are perfect for beginners but there are still plenty of challenging runs for the experienced skier. The mountain really is HUGE!
There are also Ambassadors who are there to help. They also take out groups of skiiers free of charge (it’s the “over the hill” group) providing you can ski “blue” runs.
Remember to drink plenty of water…at this altitude it’s very easy to get dehydrated and you will not feel good!

Visit steamboat.com for all information on activities, lessons etc.
