This restaurant is tucked away off the mains strip in Steamboat on 11th, but is worth seeking out no matter how near or far you are from this Rockies ski resort.
We started off with some cocktails made from their home made infused alcohols. The Fiery Tequila is to be contended with, but the quality and variety of drinks makes this a great stop for some drinks before ordering food, as many of our fellow dinners seemed to be doing. I disliked one of the cocktails and they graciously replied it at no charge.
The dishes are a combination of cheese and meat plates, jars of spreads and then small and large plates.
Now, this is the US, so small plates are close to a meal in themselves. The food has a heavy southern influence - crab cakes, pulled pork, shrimp and grits, with some local influence such as buffalo ribs.
Every dish we tasted was delicious - the trick here is that the ingredients are great. We were quickly full up and the wait staff cancelled the dish that hadn't been served without a blink.
But above all, it was the relaxed, friendly service that made the evening. Our waitress was called away half way through the evening to deliver a baby (her day job is as a local midwife), but still stopped by to say goodbye!
As my wife said, if we lived anywhere nearby we'd be in here two or three times a week.
