“Experience of a lifetime”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

I will join in the chorus of praise here and say that this is one of my family's very favorite experiences.

We drove from Steamboat Springs in our rental car to meet Sarah and Dan. We were a little concerned at first that the sedan would make it once we got to the snowy areas, but we had no problems. Keep in mind, you'll turn off of the paved and cleared roads onto a mountain road that takes you into the park. It is not maintained during the winter, so there may be small rocks and snow covering the road. We're from the South, and still survived, :) but it's worth mentioning. Dan can also meet you in the closest town if you feel more comfortable that way.

We love that this is a small family owned company that uses rescue dogs. They have so much love for the dogs, and my son was thrilled to meet the pooches and learn their names.

Sarah and Dan had us help feed the dogs and get them ready for their big run. The dogs are ready to RUN RUN RUN when they get in their harnesses! I mushed a team, and Sarah went with my wife and son while Dan stayed close by with the snowmobile. They gave us very good instructions, and even though the power of those dogs is surprising at first, we had no problems "steering" them. My son was six at the time, and Sarah rode with him, letting him mush the dogs for one section of the trip.

As others have said, the Routt National Forest is breaktakingly beautiful. When you ride with Snow Buddies, you are the only ones out there for miles. On our run, there was even a gentle snowfall. It was a picture perfect day. Sarah took one of our cameras and got some great pictures of the family throughout the ride.

At the halfway point, the dogs rest while you go inside the little cabin and enjoy some treats. My family eats gluten-free, and Sarah had a home made gluten-free chocolate tart ready for us. It was amazing. It was really touching that she went to the extra trouble for us. She also had hot tea or hot chocolate available. A couple of the dogs even made their way into the cabin for a cuddle. ;)

There are park bathrooms next to the cabin, and my son enjoyed playing in the snow during the down time.

After some pictures (the cabin location is a GREAT place to get pictures with the dogs - you can't beat the mountains in the background!), we headed back down. My son helped water the dogs and get them back in the truck.

As others have said, Sarah and Dan are very kind and very nice! This is a very different experience. You don't feel like a tourist, you feel like you are hanging out with family and friends (and some great dogs!) You really do feel like a member of their family by the time the trip is over.

Do not hesitate to try this unique experience, especially if you have kids!

“Unique and memories of a lifetime”

What a unique, granular and deeply fulfilling experience. Very pure and so much fun. Sarah and Dan offer a world class experience in a very friendly manner. The dogs are spectacular. It is a true adventure and Sarah and Dan have managed to escape the bounds of commercialism and tourist traps to create a once off experience. Our party of 8 (4 kids and 4 adults) felt honored to spend a beautiful day in the mountains with real people. Highly recommended.

“Excellent experience”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

My entire family, (5 adults and 5 kids) spent the day with Sarah and Dan dogsleding.
It was the highlight of our ski week and everyone is still talking about what a great experience it was. The kids ranged in age of 7 to 10 and each one got to be a "musher" with Sarah standing on the back with them. I can't say enough about how hard they work at making sure everyone has a great experience. Sarah clearly loves her dogs and they are Very friendly.
I checked the other tours and am so happy we went with Sarah and Dan.

“This event ---The highlight of our Vail trip”
Reviewed 8 April 2014

What a day we had with Sarah, Dan and their glourious rescue sledding dogs. Just imagine a virgin forest in the Routt National Forest; the perfect location for dogsledding with our family, including children, age 10 and 12. Sarah treated us like family and hugs were given to her as well as herdogs at the end of the day. We were the only family that morning and the children became attached to all of the dogs. At the end of the day I equated this dog sledding adventure equal to to a safari adventure day in the African bush.

Chat with Sarah before you make your selection. She will answer all your questions.

“Just a fabulous adventure!”
Reviewed 28 March 2014

Can't say enough wonderful things about the morning we spent with Snow Buddy Dog Sled Tours in Steamboat. One of our favorite vacation experiences ever. We had a perfect day and the trail through the National Forest was so beautiful. But Sarah and Dan and their wonderful dogs were the ones that really made the morning so special! It was instantly clear that the dogs were so well cared for and loved (which was very important to us) -- we learned so much and really got to be participants in the adventure. We loved hearing about all of the different personalities of the dogs! My kids are pre-teen / early teen and all had a fabulous time. One last thing -- if you prefer to have a smaller, more personal adventure this is definitely the tour for you -- it is small operation and not one that is shuttling tons of people around. Sarah (one of the owners) came and picked us up herself from Steamboat and we were the only family. But this also means you need to book in advance because they do fill up -- we booked a few weeks before our trip.
