“Short Trek with Stunning Views”

Like I always say, only one way to get to the #1 spot on TripAdvisor, and that is to be worth it. Fish Creek Falls is definitely worth it. The drive is about 2 miles from downtown Steamboat Springs. Parking is $5. The hike is about .5-.75 miles round trip. You can either take the lower or upper trail. The upper trail takes you to an outlook of the falls, while the lower trail takes you to a bridge right below the falls. I would suggest doing both, as each one should take no longer than an hour (more like 30 minutes) even with stopping a taking tons of pics. As of this writing (May 2014), the falls are really flowing and should flow even more as the snow continues to melt. Enjoy!

“Definitely worth a trip”

We own a second home in Steamboat and we bring everyone here who comes to visit. Not only that, we just bought an unlimited parking pass to this place because we come here all the time. It's a great place for any level of ability. You can do just the overlook or hike down to the falls, or if you are feeling more ambitious you can just go and go. Great both in the summer and winter. In the winter you definitely need snow shoes past the falls.

We went in April and the snow covered the walkway about 3' high so you need to make sure you have good shoes to walk in snow. There are two trails to the falls and we took the lower trail which was a little easier to walk on without good shoes. I couldn't go too far on the top trail before i started slipping. Although the falls was frozen on top, the water was running under the ice so the river was running and the scenery was beautiful.

“A must do!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2014

We visited Steamboat in March and after reading all the reviews about Fish Creek Falls, decided to hike it. We rented snowshoes ($10 @ One Stop Ski Shop) and although we could have hiked the trail just as fine without them, we had fun with them. The hike was easy and breathtaking. The views no matter where you are standing or just amazing! We left our mark (initials) in the tree and plan to come back and visit. Our one concern was what to wear? We ended up wearing our snow gear, snow boots and layering up, which was a good thing, Because it started off really warm, then a faint snow, to a blizzard and before we finished it was sunny again. Got to love Colorado!

“Short and quick but worthwhile”

Did this on apr 15, lots of snow on the paths but it's all well packed down and easily hikeable without snowshoes. Do the overlook first then head down the lower trail to get up close to the falls. Gloves are a good idea for the lowest section across the bridge as the footing isn't perfect and you'll want to brave against the bank (which is snow covered). A few dogs on the trail seemed to get around with ease. Bring a camera and check it out!
