Steamboat Mountain Lodge
Ranked #9 of 21 Hotels in Steamboat Springs

Most lodging establishments are very nice about helping to return to you any item that you left after your stay.

Steamboat Springs Mountain Lodge appeared to be so but soon found out that instead of simply mailing a small package of wildflower seeds that was left in the room via USPS to me, without telling me, the item was turned over to Post Net who wanted a service charge added for their "middle man" fee. Fifteen days after the day item was left, I, having not received the item from the lodge, called the lodge and was told that Post Net had it and wanted a credit card to mail the item, a charge nearly the original cost of the seeds.

Poor customer service from Mountain Lodge.

The only challenge regarding the Steamboat Mountain Lodge is finding it--It is located behind another lodge run by the same management, called the Steamboat Hotel. Clear signs with directional arrows are lacking. Just follow the driveway around either side of the Steamboat Hotel, and you will immediately see Steamboat Mountain Lodge directly behind it.

Once found, though, it is quite a pleasant surprise. Clover, the evening representative, on seeing we were 70-somethings, cheerfully grabbed our bags and carried them to the room on the second floor (there is no elevator).

The hotel is located on the north shore of the Yampa River; the south-facing rooms face the lush river greenery and the river itself. The rooms are clean and the beds very comfortable. An ample breakfast got us started on the following morning. A hot tub is to be found on the deck overlooking the river, just outside the dining area.

WiFi was slow, but in small resort towns, sizable bandwidth is hard to find. It was ample for checking email.

To give you an idea of how concerned this hotel is with cleanliness--most in the industry wash blankets and comforters only every one to several months. Yes, ugh, that's a fact. This hotel washes them...DAILY! WOW!

Clover also gave us an excellent dining recommendation: Rex's American Grill and Bar across the street at the Holiday Inn. It isn't your regular Holiday Inn restaurant (a good thing)--it is a popular, rockin' town hangout with great food and patio as well as indoor seating.

This isn't a 5-star rating as in a high-end resort--the 5 stars represent the excellent facility and service at an affordable price.

Room Tip: South-facing rooms have a nice river view.

We stayed here for two nights in January 2014 and enjoyed the quiet place. Would have given it an "excellent" rating despite the average breakfast then.
On our way back from a business trip we decided to stay here for one (Friday) night in June.
The room was pretty pricey, a quiet upstairs room as requested.
When we entered the bathroom we saw that the metal plug/ insert of the sink was missing. So beware of dropping anything in the sink!!! This should not escape the attention of housekeeping.
When we wanted to watch some TV after 9 p.m. there was a complete outage of the major network channels, it was still out in the morning. The front desk clerk was not aware of that.
The breakfast was average at best, no fresh fruit, not even toast.
We hope we had just bad luck this time and still give it a very good rating: The beds are good, room is spacious and quiet.

Room Tip: upstairs rooms facing the creek are quiet with beautiful views

Enjoyed waffles, cereals, muffins, and bagels for breakfast. Additional burritos for nominal fee.
Outdoor hot tub available, tho I didn't indulge in July. Did use it in February on the sunny patio.
Couches and table by the fireplace in February was a great place for a game of Rummykub. Perhaps hard to find the actual lodging since it "hides" behind another motel with a similar name; but this also is a benefit since the motel is shielded from highway noise.

The staff were very friendly, the place was quiet and one of the best night's sleeps we had on our vacation. The beds were super comfy, we're thinking of getting that kind for our own home! Overall, very clean, great location, great place to stay!

Room Tip: They have rooms that face the west, which was very scenic and quiet. We slept with the window open...

We stayed 3 nights in a room on the 2nd floor facing the river. The location was good and I was glad we weren't on the main road. It was nice to hear the birds from our room, one morning we even heard sandhill cranes. We happened to see a hot air ballon take off and another descend.
The breakfast wasn't much it didn't have any fresh fruit or eggs, we ate there once and had our own granola, milk and fruit the other mornings. Service was excellent, Jill answered questions, made suggestions and provided an iron and ironing board for our stay. The outdoor deck with table and chairs was welcomed on Saturday when we returned from Steamboat's farmers market with salmon, bread, sugar snap peas etc. for lunch before another activity. We would stay there again even without the breakfast.

It is a little hard to find because it is located behind another hotel tel (970) 871-9121. The front of the building and desk area have the woody lodge look. The longe area is equipped with leather couches, high ceiling and a fire place. The above ground hot tub put me in mind of a 10 person bubbling bath tub. The water was nice and hot! The large room next to the tub was used to dry off. The breakfast area was large and clean. We also used this area to play cards until almost 11 PM. The room was very clean with plenty of space. It was a very good value.
Jill, helped us pick a restaurant, by printing some of the local restaurant menues found on the internet. She was great exceeding our expectations on making us feel welcome.

Room Tip: Our room on the second floor was very quiet.
