“Great location Great Price & dog friendly”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 February 2014

We booked a last minute stay chasing snow! Staff was super friendly and helpful. Basic rooms in a great location within walking distance to all of town and 2 minutes to chair 7! Most reasonable price we could find and everyone was dog friendly (which was very nice for us dog lovers).
Hot tub was big and hot!
We'll definetly keep this be back!

At the last minute my friend and I decided to drive to Telluride for a weekend getaway. Most of the hotels were very expensive (no surprise based on the time of year and a short notice.) I went to Expedia to see if they offered good rates. There were a few rooms left. I purchased my room for $104.00 plus tax (total $125.00). Real good price for Telluride! The room has one queen and one twin bed, and a small kitchenette. Room was small but very clean and I love the location. Free parking and we walked to town. Located only a few blocks from the gondola. We weren't skiing, however if you do, you can ski right to this hotel. Again, not fantasy but a great location, nice large hot tub and worked perfectly fine for our need. They offer coffee, fruit and a few more goodies for breakfast at the front desk. I wasn't impressed by the daytime front desk employee, but the afternoon assistant was very nice and helpful. If you want an upscale accommodation, this is NOT for you. If you want an affordable place, a good location, be close to town, a place on the river...this place will work!

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the ski lift.

Inexpensive, clean rooms. At time of booking we asked for second floor slope side room. We ended up with first floor parking lot view. Even though our room request was not honored, the room was clean and quiet. Also a humidifier was in the room. If your looking for a clean comfortable inexpensive room, then this Inn will work.

This place was perfectly fine, for our needs although still a little pricey for the off season. The couch was comfy but very worn, the 2 chairs were well worn. The kitceh table was 1980s all the way.

It is 1970 calling and it wants its decor back. Stove was old (probably from the 1990s), but it worked just fine, the toaster was nice, large fridge, sink etc and the big screen TV in both rooms were nice,

But the Pièce de résistance is the 1970s RED (yes RED) bathroom counter. CLASS-EY, Plus there is just a tiny shower circa 1970s...would have LOVED a bath tub.
The carpet is well worn as well!

The hot tub is outside, which is fine but it had snowed and I had no desire to walk out into the cold, get in the hot tub, and then go back out to the cold.

And service...wow! What service? They did 'try' but the Front Desk is open M-F 8-6 so anything after that time...good luck .Any check in after 6 pm is done with an honor system piece of paper, with your keys (no magnetic key cards here). Check out on Sunday was a leave the keys in the room and run for your lives. Also 10am Check out is a little early.. on a Sunday.

Soda machine had no soda in it.

If you want housekeeping to come in it is an extra $16 a day (we opted out of that). The kitchen was stocked with cups, bowls and plates and that was nice, but the shower had a small shampoo bottle still in it that was not our. (oops housekeeping missed that)

Parking...oh Geeze. There are a few spots and if you want to park in the adjoining lot you have to go back into town, avoid the detour go back around to the one way street and hope for the best. Basically you have to go about a mile out of your way to get to the parking lot that is JUST NEXT DOOR. A little frustrating...

The goods points, it was quiet and the room was so well insulated after a snow storm that you didn't even need to turn the heat on. (In fact we opened the window). The couch was warn but comfortable

So the moral of the story, the place is fine if you need a place to crash at the end of the day and cheaper than any place else in town, and you want to be close to the gondola then here you go. No amenities or features. Telluride is just an expensive town so...next time we are going to stay in Ouray, Colorado... we liked that place a lot more!!

Thanks so much for your detailed review. This gives us a bird's eye view of how some of guests perceive our units. I will certainly share this with my Managers so they know as well. Yes,Mountainside Inn is worn, but always clean, and we are working on deferred maintenance this season with 4 capital improvement projects that will help in upgrading the bath flooring and trim, internet, unit door painting and installation of flat screen Televisions. There is more to be done, for sure (orange countertops!) and we now have a Maintenance Director who is making a great difference. Concerning the soda, this has been a source of contention for us, too and we think it has now been cleared up since my exasperated calls to Coca Cola 2 weeks ago. Ouray does have wonderful places to stay, but so does Telluride. Mountainside Inn is only one of many affordable places to stay within the Telluride Alpine Lodging collection of properties. Please do come back anytime!!

Sincerely,

Heather White

This is a nice hotel in Telluride that is pet friendly at a modest price. The rate was $85 in September plus $30 for a dog. It is right on the river and there is plenty of on site parking. It is also with in walking distance of the Main Street. Nothing fancy, but fine accommodations especially if you are traveling with pets.

Room Tip: There are river view rooms available.

The positives.

We rented in August of this year. The location was great, and it's very close to everything - including the Grocery store, Gondola, and restaurants. The room was fairly clean, and the grounds well kept. Plenty of parking and a bike trail is right behind the property. The front desk girl was very polite and helpful when we checked in.

The negatives.

If you expect to be "pampered" while you're there - that is not the aim of this place, it's VERY basic and plain. It truly needs some updating badly.

Because we typically try to rent kitchenettes while traveling to save money and cook - I was surprised at how small the kitchenette room was, but considering the price I was ok with it. It's pretty tough for a family of three to cook a full dinner in such a small space - so if you are considering the lower cost kitchenette - be sure to bring things that don't need a whole lot of help to get prepared. There is also a grill outside that we missed until after we cooked steak in our room.

After hiking and walking A LOT all day - a soak in the hot tub sounded so very good - but, it was pretty luke-warm. Just wasn't enjoyable at all. It's HUGE, but it was not hot.

Our room's carpet was also pretty dirty, and the linoleum in the bathroom had mold under it. It was pretty discolored in a large area near the shower. We also (because we aim to own a hotel/property of our own someday) did the Anthony Melchiorri test on the picture frames and Mirrors, and there was a significant amount of dust built up on them. Ew.

The beds were VERY hard, as some others have pointed out. We didn't sleep well either night.

Also, the cleaning supplies to clean up the kitchenette area was lacking. A spray cleaner for oily messes would have been nice (Unless I missed it) and when I was washing dishes in the am before we left - all they had was a sponge and a washcloth. I ended up badly cutting my hand when a glass broke while I was washing it - so I left a few glasses behind so they could do it with a glass sponge or brush or something safer.

The hallways are very drab and reminded me of a college dorm or something. Some fresh paint, and maybe a mural or picture or two would make it feel a tad more inviting.

We are pleased that you found some positives while you were in Telluride. Mountainside Inn was constructed in the 70's shortly after the ski mountain put in our first lift. The design intent was for skiers to come, enjoy an affordable few days of outdoor fun and skiing, spending most of their time in the great out of doors that Telluride is famous for. Several years ago, Mountainside Inn was condominiumized so it functions today as an HOA that rents the units out for folks like you to continue coming to have fun. We are now in the midst of four capital improvement projects, one of which is replacement of the bath and kitchen flooring, needed subflooring and trim which looks very nice. The other improvements are installation of flat screen TV's and internet upgrades. These will be completed at the end of our off season in November. I am delighted that you, too, are a fan of Anthony Melchiorri's "Hotel Impossible". It has helped us in our business as well, and we are working with housekeeping to give attention to these details you mentioned. Thank you for your detailed and helpful review.

Sincerely,

I stayed at the Mountinside Inn for 2013 Telluride Bluegrass. The Inn accomodations were clean and had easy access to Town Park and everything else within a 10 minute walk. I was able to park my vehicle in town with the pass that I was given at the Inn. It was very quiet and a very peaceful walk back from the Festival at night along the Creek. If you are looking for an affordable place to stay that has everything you need (you should be spending most of you time at the Festival :-) ) then this is the place for you. The staff was helpful and being able to make coffee and breakfast in the room was handy. Baked in Telluride is just down the street if you want someone else to make breakfast for you. Overall a very good stay.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the river would be ideal!!
