The New Sheridan Hotel is fantastic. Not only was our room lovely, and newly renovated, but the bathroom had heated tile floors! It was a great place to stay when in Telluride. The hot tub was always empty, which made for a nice evening after a day of skiing or shopping. Everything is walkable from there too. I ate breakfast every morning at the bar in the hotel lobby. The food was great, coffee good and the company was even better. We also ate at the steakhouse once and that was good as well. I would definitely recommend this to anyone going. I also suggest a room on the 3rd floor (far from lobby, close to hot tub!)

Pulled into town on a Thursday night, with no reservations. Needed room for one night. Stopped at Central Reservations. Told her it was just me, one night, didn't want to spend a fortune. She said I was in luck, she had a room at (I heard) the new Sheraton up the street. What did I know? At $139, the price was right. I was pleasantly surprised to find it was the New Sheridan, a historic hotel, and not a Sheraton. It's smack in the middle of town, and very impressive. They said the room had a view, but you had to open the blinds all the way up to see above the roofline next door. No matter to me, but I think they should drop the pretense. They don't need it, and it just promises more than they deliver. Everything in the room was fine, especially the linens and the bathroom. Big screen HDTV. Nice furnishings and finishes. The guy at the front desk, same guy evening and morning, was a little standoffish -- efficient, but seemed to not want to be there. In fact, a lot of the staff was strangely aloof. When I went into the deluxe ChopHouse and sat at the bar, there was no bartender, and it took about 5 minutes before one of the four or five other staff members present greeted me. But one did, and I got my beer, and the bartender (Steve) eventually arrived, and he was very cool, very good, and what you would expect in a place of this caliber. I met a guy on the street, a local, who asked me about my motorcycle, and I invited him to stop by the bar later, and lo and behold, he did. Turned out he was a shaker in town. Food was excellent, too. Had the corn chowder, a tomato salad and the short rib appetizer. All were great! So really the only criticism of the place is that somebody (management) needs to really stress to the staff that they ALL need to go way out of their way (a la other first-class places) to make guests feel welcome, ALL the time, no matter what. (They could also use a bellman, but the absence didn't bother me.) That, and drop the silly "view" pretense. Other than that, place was fantastic, and I would highly recommend it.

My husband chose this hotel because he likes staying in historic hotels. I was skeptical from the get-go because I hate small rooms with fussy furniture. I do give the New Sheridan considerable credit for making the rooms as modern and nice as possible while respecting the historical nature of the place. They did a great job in particular of updating the bathrooms, and the linens were of great quality. The hotel also has a fabulous location in the heart of Telluride--it was very easy to walk to shopping, restaurants, and the cable car.

Since we were on a budget, we opted for an "interior" room. I figured that would mean not much of a view, but what you get is a brick wall ~2 feet from your windows. Not only do you not get views, but you also don't get ventilation--which you need in an un-air-conditioned room in summer. We ran the ceiling fan all night but I still didn't sleep very well, because it was 80 degrees in the room (according to the thermostat).

Another thing to know is that the hotel no longer offers free coffee or breakfast. Some earlier reviews made reference to those things, but they are gone.

My other dislike was the very small size of the common areas--the lobby is *tiny* (two small upholstered chair and a computer table) and not a good lounging alternative to one's room.

This hotel is centrally located on the main street of Telluride. It has a popular bar downstairs. However, the hotel manager is more concerned about selling alcohol than providing hospitable, efficient service to the guests. Hotel staff are also very friendly to their local friends, preferring to leave the guests feeling like interlopers. Not good. The rooms with a view are more expensive, but very noisy as they face the street. The smaller rooms have no view and are stuffy--especially in the summer.

Restaurant service is disorganized and inefficient. Don't eat their breakfasts and avoid their lunches. Dinners seem acceptable if you order expensive wine.

The maid service is inconsistent. Remind the staff to stop talking loudly outside of the hotel rooms before 10 am and after 11 pm. Otherwise, no matter which room you request, there will be a symphony of slamming doors beginning at 6:30 am and resuming once the bars close. There is poor sound insulation between the rooms, so be mindful of your privacy.

The hotel is clean, but remind the staff to turn off all those pot lights in your room. With no air conditioning you will return to your room to find the thermostat reading 90 degrees.

Overall, the staff seem to care little about guest comfort. This is an expensive hotel that seems to be very popular despite its failures. Save your money and stay elsewhere. If you like the atmosphere, order an expensive Bloody Mary in the parlour and sleep comfortably elsewhere in Telluride.

This was our second stay and it was as good as the first! A nice breakfast is included, the location is the best and the roof top hot tubs are great! Skiing is just a short walk and there are lots of resturaunts close by. Staff was friendly and very helpful.

We just returned from a 4 day/3 night stay at the New Sheridan. The staff at the hotel were extremely pleasant and professional. We can't say enough good things about Nate, the concierge/valet---he was exceptional. The lobby bar is charming and the restaurant in the hotel was quite good. We stayed in a front room that, while not overly spacious, was sufficient for two. It had lovely views of the main street and mountains. The only down side is that it can be noisy at night time. When the bars let out the noise level rises considerably. Overall, this was a minor inconvenience to us and the other charms of the hotel outweighed the inconvenience (we're former city dwellers used to street noise). We'd definitely stay here again.

The hotel is recently and beautifully remodeled. The decor is consistent with the hotel's age, 100+, but neverthless thoroughly modern, functional, and convenient. The staff is consistently friendly and helpful; they all seem to enjoy their work. The hotel is right in the middle of the Telluride historic district, near all the great restaurants and ambiance. There is also a fine restaurant, The Chop House, connected to the hotel. The town of Telluride does not cater to or promote self-parking, so use the hotel's valet parking (although at $15/day a bit pricey by small-town, western US standards.
