We arrived in the afternoon after a long slow journey from Bangkok airport due to it being a Buddha day. We then had to struggle through the restaurant with all our luggage to reach the small reception area. The greeting we received was one word, passports. As our passports were being copied I counted nine staff standing around and the restaurant was very quiet and no one had offered to help us with luggage. There was then a gesture indicating we were going to our room and again no help with carrying luggage up the stairs but she did carry my hat. As senior citizens we were exhausted.
We had previously pre booked and paid for a room at the front with balcony and sea view via Agoda. On entering the room she said we could change rooms next day if we were not happy. This room did not have sea view. My husband explained this was not acceptable and we had paid for a room with sea view but it became clear he was talking to a brick wall. To cut a long story short my husband went back to reception and after twenty minutes and being told the owner was in Sweden and the manager was not answering the phone said he would not move until the problem was sorted, staff seemed to think it was funny. Eventually she said someone was leaving at 21.00 and we could have the room then. So at our expense they let the room at the half daily rate for late checkout to gain extra revenue. They should have moved these guests and not inconvenienced us.
We had room 6 on the second floor and again no help with luggage when we moved.
No problems with the room and the housekeeping was very good. There was roadside noise and late music from the bar below. We spoke to other guests who left early because of the noise. In the whole two weeks we were there no one asked if everything was ok, never any good morning greeting when we handed the room key in, no conversation when we came in.
The staff could not even book us a taxi to a hotel in Bangkok. I showed them the address to be met with shrugs and come back at 16.00 to speak to someone else to try and book a taxi. This was inconvenient so I emailed the manager and received no reply. This caused more inconvenience because we then had to go out and about to find a taxi that did not quote exorbitant prices.
If you book here remember you are only renting a room in spite of what the website says. In the room folder it states "Welcome valued guest" and taxis can be booked at reception. Don't expect kassistance tourists would expect.
The staff should have adequate language skills and they did when it suited them.
We have travelled the world and stayed in places where staff have had limited English but it's been "Where there is a will there is a way"
