Last week we were staying in our house in Jomtien, and we decided to pay my old friend Matthieu a visit.
Matthieu ownes with his wife Tik the Tulip House, which is a hotel and restaurant on Jomtien beach. He has been there since 1989 (!!) Just a bit after my first visit to Thailand in 1985.
I have been coming here since 1991, when i was setting up my factory in nearby Ban Chang.
The wonderful thing about the Tulip House is that it makes you feel right at home.
He got excellent Dutch food, with special Dutch dishes like kroket (a roll filled with ragout with a crunchy crispy outside) bitterballen - the same thing but tiny round balls filled with the same ragout, and dutch meatballs, giant versions of the Swedish meatballs, naturally Dutch cheese and other snacks like Dutch French Fries, which are absolutely superior to any others. Plus they have whole Dutch meals, red cabbage, potatoes, schnitzel or steak etc, For people not too homesick or curious about Dutch food they have all international dishes and even excellent Thai food.
The place is wonderful with an atmosphere which is a cross between a Dutch brown café and a beach bar. You will feel right at home. Kind, friendly staff, and you cannot miss the owner with his light blond hair looking very Dutch or his sweet wife Tik.
They will start a conversation with anyone interested in doing so and know lots about Jomtien, Pattaya and Thailand. They can advise on tours and things to do and see in South-East Asia and can even book you a tour as they also have a travel agency.
If you had a few beers too many, you can stay over, if they have space, as they are a hotel as well.
They serve all day, from breakfast to lunch, to dinner, to late night snack.....
This is a place i cannot recommend enough, as it is really a piece of Holland in Thailand, and an institution in Jomtien as well.
