My girlfriend (fiance after this trip) and I stayed here over MLK and had a great time. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. The resort has great amenities -- top notch spa and gym, outdoor hot tubs, pool, ski in/ski out. The onsite restaraunt was also pretty good, though we mostly ate breakfast there, so I can't speak to their dinner. There's also a great little bar just off the lobby that was packed most of the afternoon and evening.

Some reviews have suggested that the resort needs some updating, but we thought it was in quite good shape. It's not exactly the Four Seasons -- definitely more of a lodgey feel to it -- but still very nice. Our room was certainly up to par and had a nice little balcony.

Another perk is the free shuttle. It runs at least every fifteen minutes from in front of the resort and stops in Lionshead and Vail. Very convenient and had we known about this in advance we probably wouldn't have even rented a car.

The only thing I'd give a negative review to is Charter Sports ski rentals, but unfortunately there's not really another option anywhere unless you bring your own skis. The guy who fitted us for boots had no idea what he was doing -- gave us both the wrong boot sizes and took forever getting them. He gave us the exact opposite of correct advice on how they should feel and how they should be strapped up and also only fitted me for one boot. I had the skis fitted and then went to put on the second boot and realized my feet weren't the same size so I had to get new boots and go through the whole process again. Also, pre-booking meant nothing because you can print out a 30% coupon online.

Overall, minus Charter Sports, I'd have no hesitation recommending this resort to anyone. Great trip!!

Dear Ryan,
First let me take a moment to congratulate you on your engagement and send you best wishes for a lifetime of happiness! Very exciting!

Thank you for your recent stay at Vail Cascade and for sharing your experience. We always appreciate hearing from our guests and from what it sounds like, you had a great time and enjoyed all of the amenities that make our resort so special. I will pass along your feedback pertaining to Charter Sports – thanks for letting us know about your situation – I know they will appreciate it as well.

We are grateful for your business and would love to see you and your fiancé again in Vail. The snow continues to fall and the conditions are great! If you like the winter in Vail, you should come in the summer.....our resort provides the perfect backdrop for a memorable mountain wedding.

Just got back from an amazing long weekend in Vail and stayed at this resort on our last night for some resort relaxation. It is a great resort for skiing the mountain as there is a ski lift from the hotel up the mountain, a ski run down right next to the hotel and a ski concierge service also right there. Very Very convenient and you don't have to battle the crowds at Lionshead Village. It is a very nice resort with all the amenities you could want. Great outdoor heated pool and nearby jacuzzi with firepit along with a lovely view of trees and mountains, nice bar area, great in house restaurant with a great breakfast buffet and lovely service all round. This place also has an indoor basketball and tennis court and spa....really...it has all the amenities you could want. We didn't use the shuttle as we had stayed in town the previous days, however wherever you stay in Vail, the free shuttle service is phenomenal! with a bus every 5-15mins. My only thought was that for such a large resort/hotel, their jacuzzi is a little on the small side for so many people and hence it can get a little crowded sometimes...especially as the resort is so family friendly. The decor of the rooms could also use a little update. Otherwise, great resort and would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here over Thanksgiving, 2013. The room was excellent with a great balcony and view. The room location could not be beat as we were ten feet from the entrance to the ski shop. For me there were 3 highlights I would like to point out (besides the skiing) 1) The service from Everett one of the bell guys, who went way out of his way to show my wife and I all the great spots around the hotel. There is a great spa here, but if you don't know where it is it doesn't do you much good. We knew where it was, and it was great!
2) The service in the ski shop was beyond belief. Not only did they adjust the settings on my skis so I avoided a serious injury, they also reviewed many of the runs on the mountain with me. (first time in Vail, and only skiing for 4 years) ...and they seemed to enjoy helping me out. On top of this, when I had some breathing issues on the mountain, (touch of altitude sickness) one of the ski shop employees while on his own time, somehow recognized me, and stopped to see if he could assist me! I couldn't believe it!! I've haven't seen service like that in 50 years!!!
3) The main restaurant food was delicious both at lunch and at dinner. Prices I thought were very reasonable and the wait staff was first rate.

I will stay here again, and I can easily recommend this hotel for a ski trip or romantic getaway.

One note: You are not in downtown Vail when you stay at this hotel, but the shuttles are excellent. I never had to wait more than 15 minutes to get a ride either to Vail, or back to the hotel

We visited the Vail Cascade for Christmas 2013, traveling with 3 small children - and it did not disappoint!

The staff - in a word, superb! Super friendly and very attentive to our needs. The concierge was especially helpful in securing our dinner reservations during the busy holiday season.

Amenities - the shuttle is wonderful, coming every 10 − 15 minutes. Didn't need a car! The pool and hot tub were a big hit with the children. My husband loved the bar - lots of different craft beers to choose from. The restaurant was a delight. The breakfast is not to be missed! The fireplace and Christmas decorations were so warm and welcoming.

The room - we will go bigger next time, a suite for sure. It was nice having two queen beds (instead of double) - but still needed more space for our crew.

The Cascade had so many extras for the holidays - visits from Santa, making stockings, hot chocolate and candy for the kids. It really was a magical time to be at the resort!

Very affordable - for the scenery and extras, this is definitely the place to be for a family holiday!

Room Tip: DVD players are not in the room, but there are some to check out from the front desk if you ask.

This hotel is top notch. Our 2 favorite things were the outdoor hot tub with a fire running next to it, over looking the mountain and the ski concierge. You can leave your boots and skis at the concierge when you check in. The next morning, just show up they bring you your warmed up boots (and even help you put them on if you want) and leave your skis at the lift, about 15 steps out the door! At the end of the day coming down the lift, they greet you by name and take your skis for you as soon as you come down off the lift and once your boots are off they have your shoes for you and take your boots which they blow air through on racks and dry them out. The rooms were also phenomenal!

We stayed at the Vail Cascade for the first time during Christmas break 2013. We arrived on Dec 20 around 430pm but our room wasn't ready yet. The check-in process was fine and the front desk gave us complimentary drinks at the lounge while we waited for our room. We finally got in our room about 45 minutes later. The room was on the fourth floor and was quite spacious. The beds were comfortable but our initial pillows were quite lumpy. After calling the front desk, they then brought us much better down pillows. We ate at the Atwater grill almost every morning and the buffet was good but a little pricey. However, if you factor in the price of a cup of coffee and a breakfast entree, the difference in price between ordering a la carte vs buffet was only around $6-8 dollars so it made more sense to just have the buffet and get a much wider selection to choose from. Charter ski shop on the premises was great and the ski valet was also very good. The best part was being able to step out of the hotel and get on the ski lift in about 10 steps. You will be on the mountain in no time. The trickier part is skiing back to the hotel at the end of the day. You should be able to ski an easy to moderate blue(intermediate) run in order to get to the green run that leads you back to the hotel. Beginner skiers will have a little difficulty with this and will likely need to take a shuttle back to the hotel from Lionshead village. We know this firsthand since we had 2 small children skiing with us. We had to use the shuttle the first day as my wife and kids weren't ready for the blue runs until toward the end of the second day.
The hotel was entirely sold out during our stay but it didn't seem crowded at all except at the front lobby which was always busy. The corridors were always quiet and not noisy at all.
While not a new property, the hotel has been kept very well. The staff are friendly and helpful and a couple of them knew my name after one meeting and kept greeting me by name each time we ran into each other. We had a great experience overall and would certainly consider staying there again when we return to Vail.

My 2 children and I stayed at the resort between Dec. 28 and Jan. 4. This was our 6th stay.
Here are the Highlights:
1. Check in: the personnel were nice, and very accomodating. Our room was not ready and we were given a temporary charge card and acccess to the pool and hot tub. Our luggage was delivered to our room within minutes of check in.
2. Restaurant/cafe/bar: Atwater serves B/L/D. Breakfast is "a la carte" or buffet. The buffet is pricey. Good selection for dinner. Make reservations. Welcoming personnel.
At times, the restaurant appeared understaffed with several mistakes either on the orders or the charging.
The cafe has a good selection of pastries, coffee, cheeses, sandwiches and drinks. It is a cheaper alternative to the full resturant.
Nice bar, great view, offers food as well.
3. Charter sports: you may rent all the equipment here. Make on-line resevations ahead of your arrival(30% off). Great group of people. Very accomodating and knowledgeble.
They also run the ski concierge. Keep your equipment overnight at the facility. In the morning they deliver your skis to the lift. You just pick up your boots.
4. Chair lift #20: it is outside Charter Sports. No waiting. Open 8:30-3:30.
This is one of the best features of the resort. Up #20, connect to #26, and your up at Eagles Nest in +-18 minutes.
5. Ski School; we had a great instructor: IVAN KARACHOVANOV. Affable, engaging and a good teacher. Kidas learned blacks, moguls, powder, jumps, without a tear. Know how to read the skier's hability, fears and strenghts.
6. Housekeeping: several issues. They appear understaffed or staffed with untrained personnel. Nice people who try their best.

We already made reservations for December 2014. Keep coming back because the experience remains unsurpassed.

Room Tip: Select rooms away from elevator, and high traffic areas. High traffic: first floor on the way to Ch...
