“Inconsistent Service”
Reviewed 21 March 2011

Spent 5 days in mid march with a mixed experience.

On the positive side it's a nice property with very good food service. Also the bell service was outstanding

On the negative side the concierge service was poor, including making reservations at a rest. That was no longer open?????

Several other rough edges as well.

In terms of the location it is more like a 10-15 min walk to the lift. We did not mind it and the ski concierge staff were fantastic.

If you cherish a Four Seasons Hotel version of luxury above all else, this is an excellent choice. Their high standards apply, yet again, to the service, bathroom, bed, beige walls-wood-trim decor and amenities. Restaurant is a very tasty steakhouse for dinner. The Spa is truly lovely and we enjoyed excellent massages. Our King mountain view room is plain, luxurious and spacious. And very expensive! However, much like The 4S in Whistler, B.C. they arrived late on the scene and as a consequence the location is less ideal. In Vail, with a variety of options, this may not be the best for someone looking for something with more character or the best location. In that case, the Sonnenalp or Lodge Tower should be considered.

This is a beautiful and tasteful property that manages to combine a sense of grandeur with with a very warm and cozy ambience. It has great amenities, large well appointed rooms and perfect marble bathrooms with beautiful deep soaker /slipper tubs, The property has a stunning pool and spa. The hotel is perfectly located at the heart of the village; it backs on to Vail Road and Meadow Drive and the best shops, restaurants and scenery that Vail has to offer. The hotel is not inexpensive, but for what you get the Vail Four Seasons actually represents the best value in the Valley by a considerable margin.

For skiers the ski valet service is perfect. Steps from the lfit, the hotel in partnership with legendary ski shop Gorsuch, maintains an amazing facility. The place has heated floors, in locker boot dryers, complimentary baked goods and fresh fruit and was staffed by dedicated attendants (we had to fight them off from helping us put on our boots and carry our skis the 5 steps to the Vista Bahn). Other skiers clearly enjoyed the pampering. The service actually makes the location superior to ski in ski out since one gets the benefits of the latter with the addition of a five minute stroll through the beautiful village. The after ski stroll through Vail village is the closest thing North American skiers have to Cortina's Passagiata and is a critical part of the fun.

It is fair comment that the hotel has some 'teething' problems and that this property does not yet run quite as seamlessly as other 4cs properties. But the very minor shortcomings we experienced (one night housekeeping left us extra shower gel but no shampoo, a long wait for hashbrowns at the buffet because the cook 'burned the last bastch', one very young front desk staff member a touch too casual ), were so trivial that raising them seems bratty. These were more more than offset by the service ethic, enthusiasm and friendliness of all the hotel staff . The front desk manager, Steven, made my wife and I feel as if we were the only people in the world who mattered. Readers here should note that other reviewers here are comparing this property to other Four Seasons resorts not to other Vail properties. Having lived in and visited the valley on and off for more than thirty years I can say honestly this would be an apples to oranges comparison. The many surpises we experienced should also be acknowledged. ( eg: decadent hot chocolate and brownies outdoors, beside the steaming poool and massive roaring fireplace while wearing heated robes in the mountain sunset).

This property should soon be ranked -albeit with some minor tweeks- as one of the top, if not the top ski hotels in the world. It is really simple: Stay here, you will not be disappointed!!!!

We have been coming to Vail for many years and usually, we have stayed at the Sonnenalp of Vail, but because our friends from the east coast were staying here, we decided to join them as well. We had a wonderful time! The service was impeccable, dinner at the Flame restaurant was delicious, and breakfast the next morning was great as well. The ski concierge service was absolutely the best! Your skis and boots are delivered almost slope-side and they will even offer to carry your skis to the lift if you want. The ski lockers have spacious areas to store your gear and even warm your boots overnight! The attendants there were very gracious, friendly, and attentive and were ready to take your skis for you at the end of your day. We did notice a long line for the ski attendants at the nearby Sonnenalp ski valet service at the end of the day. The spa is also superb! One day, while my husband skied the extreme terrain with his friend, I enjoyed some of the spa services and they were absolutely sensational! Try the Alpine Body Treatment and have your cosmetician suggest a custom facial. My skin was just glowing afterward!

The only downsides were that the views from our room were of the other rooms and of the side road. We had requested a nice view, but it was only a limited partial mountain view. Also, when we expected a change of towels and turn-down service in the evening, it was not done while we were out to dinner. One evening, turn-down service did not come at all even though we had called for them to come while we went out for dinner.

All in all, you can't go wrong in Vail by staying at either the beautiful, new Four Seasons or at the Sonnenalp, but we probably prefer the pretty creekside location and the unique Bavarian charm of the Sonnenalp better. Perhaps if we ever opt to join our friends at The Four Seasons again, we will try to get a room on a higher floor with a better view.

Stayed 3 nights and was blown away by this new property. The staff although "green" did an amazing job and take care of you like you are on of the family.

The food in the restaurant, Flame, was spectacular. the chef came out to the table and visited with us, he prepared a special tasting for us and made us feel like royalty. The cuisine is a good mix of mountain inspirations and an AMAZING steakhouse. (you have to try the bison ribeye!!)

The room product is by far the best in Vail, and although off slope, they have a ski concierge program that is flawless, and you cna wander the village without cumbersome ski boots and trying to handle all of your gear.. and the next day it is all waiting in your locker, with your boots warmed up and ready to go!

we had a memorable stay an are going to be back soon. Would highly recomend this hotel to anyone.

Our stay at the Four Seasons Vail was very pleasant. We were at first hesitant because it is not a "ski-in-out" resort but their shuttle and ski concierge make it almost like a ski-in-out. The ski concierge is just steps from the lifts and the staff were eager to help with whatever one may need. The espresso, hot chocolate, and tea along with fresh baked pastries (all complimentary) at the ski concierge were a nice touch.
The rooms were spacious and tastefully furnished. We've stayed at the Hyatt in Beaver Creek (just a few minutes West of Vail) where the rooms were the size of a closet!
As for restaurants, we ate at Flame for breakfast everyday. We thought the buffet was a good value ($34 for adult and $17 for kids.) Ordering a la carte would cost you probably a lot more since the prices were a bit high ($6 for cup of tea) We quite enjoyed our breakfasts, though felt the service was a bit lacking. The servers all smiled and were friendly, but they definitely lacked experience because one put in the wrong order, other failed to bring tea and juice, etc. etc.
Four Seasons Vail is a beautiful resort with good service and grounds. I would choose to stay here again.

My Girlfriend and I recently stayed here from 1/21/11-1/28/11 for a ski vacation. Our last experience with the Four Seasons was in Maui last year. In comparison it is night and day. The Vail Four Seasons had just opened the month before and it shows. It is not a bad hotel, but it is just not up to the Four Seasons standard. Everyone working there seems not just new to Four Seasons, but new to the hotel industry. When we arrived at around 2-3pm our room was not ready yet. We went to the lounge for a drink. Nice area. They have an outdoor area with heaters, but they were never on and there was old snow on the chairs. Not sure if they are going to use that area in the winter or not. When our room was ready they did come and find us and our luggage had already been delivered. We asked a worker in the lounge how to get to our room, but he was too new and didnt know. This in microcosm was how our visit went. Room was nice and neat, but missing certain toiletries that magically showed up on day 4 or 5. Normal turn down was ok, but sometimes they wouldnt refill humidifier. They never put your slippers down. Breakfast buffet in the morning is the usual expensive breakfast except with VERY FEW options with chefs that sometimes couldnt be found to make your eggs. I asked for pancakes once and they said they couldnt make them at buffet. What? Really? Wait staff was ok, but again just not up to snuff. An Outback restaurant staff would have been better. Ate dinner at hotel only one time because their Vegas chef apparently could not cook our steaks a medium well. One was very well done and the other medium-rare. They removed one dinner off check, but that is not the point. Tried out spa one day and it is nice. What I have never liked is the 18% gratuity added to the bill. I am more than able to decide on a tip and usually tip more, but if you force it down my throat then you dont get anymore. Overall a nice hotel, but I would give it a year of improving itself before staying there. There were a few other very nice hotels that I am going to research next time which of course speaks volumes when you dont consider staying at the Four Seasons again. Concierge was again middle of the road. They made some reservations for us at other restaurants which was fine. I had to get a ski lesson for my girlfriend, but we forgot what time to be there in morning. Concierge tells us 9am and to be there a little earlier to get gear. Well we got there at 8:30 to find out class doesnt start till 10am. I also had them set up transportation to the airport before we left. They tell us to be there at 11:30am and ride was there at 10:45am. Dont know who got that one wrong, but I assume Four seasons since it takes 45 min to get to airport and our flight left at 1pm. So as you can see this hotel is just not quite ready to be called a Four Seasons. It is not because it is an awful hotel, but it is because it is not up to Four Seasons standards that I do not recommend this hotel.
