“Ideal Ski Hotel”
Reviewed 1 April 2013

We have returned many years to the Christiana due to great location, excellent service and alpine atmosphere. This year's visit was most memorable. Service was warm and helpful, from the front desk to the guy who put away boots and skis, to the warm greeting we received each morning in the restaurant. Other review suggest the hotel is "dated". We do not think so, although if you want glitz and marble, may be you should be paying three times as much at the Ritz or Four Seasons!

Probably best location in Vail. Essentially ski-in, ski-out. We liked our suite for ourselves and adult daughter, particularly having two bathrooms made it easy to get going every morning and night.

Very good staff in the ski room. Helpful with boots and anything else. It has been over ten years since we were last at Christiania, and it still suits us fine.

The breakfast is convenient and a good deal at $8.

The front desk could be more warm and welcoming, but that is a small complaint and a small price to pay for this great location.

Room Tip: The corner suite with sofa bed and two baths was very good for the three of us.

Live in Colorado and have stayed in many hotels in the Vail area. Christiania is the worst property I have stayed in by far. Property is over-priced, dated, and the staff was not the least bit warm or friendly. Other than the location, there is nothing positive I can say about my experience at this hotel. Even the breakfast was awful. Would not ever consider staying here again. Vail is awesome but this hotel falls well short of what visitors should expect when staying in this area. So many properties there offer much, much more than this place.

The location is great: Just a few steps from restaurants, shops, and the new Gondola One.
The room was spacious, and the bed comfortable. But everything was a little dated. Especially the carpet and the bathroom. And I missed a coffee /hot water maker in the room.
I booked a mountain view room, but I felt it was overpriced. It was pretty noisy. Located direclty over the bar, there was no chance to have a nap after skiing, as the bar was filled with apres-skiers. You could smell the alcohol in the hallway.
At night the bar was closed but you could hear the grooming machines on the slopes. The windows were single pane windows. Standing close to the shut windows you could feel the cold air coming in. Besides the noise - what a waste of energy !
The breakfast was great. They just offered continental breakfast, but it's extended (several breads and bagels, cheese, ham, eggs, hot porridge, joghurt, granola, fresh fruit salad etc.) It was very delicious. And for 8 $ (for hotel guests), an acceptable price.

We stayed in Unit 11 of Villa Valhalla and I posted a separate detailed review there (if anybody is interested in that particular unit or building you can search for it) so this review will be more general.

I will not go into the details of the unit, as it’s privately owned and other units maybe different, but the building itself (Villa Valhalla) needed some serious updating starting from new windows that the wind blows through easily to the entrance updates. They still use physical keys instead of upgrading to magnetic cards and while the main door is always locked (you need a separate key to open it) the side door to the same building is always open, which completely defeats the purpose. Sound insulation is very poor and you can hear everything and everybody in the building and every noise outside. I suppose there is not much the owners can do about it, but that’s something to keep in mind. The units (at least the one we were in) are very noisy at night. Parking is assigned, but the numbers are marked “black on black” which, as expected, are impossible to see so we were instructed to count them from the beginning until we get to our spot.

Location of the property is perfect – 5 min to the new gondola and around the corner (literally) from the heart of the Vail village. However, for the price paid, we expected better conditions of the building and the condo.

Have only good things about the front desk which tried very hard to help us with various problems in our unit including offering to weather seal the sliding door to one of the rooms in the unit. However, next time we’ll be looking into different property.

Finally found a place with the atmosphere of our old favorite, Willows, before it was changed into 5 million dollar condos. Staff ever ready to handle every need. Lovely continental breakfast with fresh berries, hot homemade oatmeal, great pastries, and good coffee. Large hot tub, right on the slope at the village.

2 minute walk - down the street from vail village's fountain! location is good as it gets up to a place on the ski slope itself. the staff was friendly and helpful, i stayed twice in December for 2 nights and checked in late without any problems. they have a parking lot across the street from the hotel, so park in the temporary parking spots on the street, check in, and let them know you have a vehicle and they will open the gate. their breakfast is ok, but i am really only there for the coffee. i will go back and stay there again.

Room Tip: i stayed on the street side and the mountain side, but i did not find a real difference with the vie...

Thank you for your kind words... Just for clarification we are ski in/ ski out property. The
new Gondola One is right outside our back door. It is 30 yards away and takes less than 30 seconds to walk there. Thanks again and hope to see you here again soon.
