“Great place to stay in Vail”
Reviewed 20 December 2011

This was not my first trip to Vail, but was my first stay at the Austria Haus. I stayed with a large group. Everything went so smooth. The staff is excellent-always friendly and willing to assist you. Great breakfast and happy hour. Excellent location. It really has it all. I will be staying there again next year!

Room Tip: Ask for a room *not* next to the elevator. That was my only complaint!

Love this place. Right in the heart of things in Vail. You can catch a bus outside the door to the slopes. The pool and pool deck are heated, very cool, Not to mention the pool is on a creek/river. Great everything withing walking distance. Heated bathroom floors ( great on cold days ).
Cons -- Little noisy, All hotel rooms face the non ski side ( I-70 highway ), slope view goes to the time share condo side.
Plan on about 40-60$ in Fees. The standard RockResort fee, donation to the national forrest (1$), and you can imagine what taxes are in Vail.
I will go back regularly during sales, full price anywhere in Vail is rough.

Room Tip: You either get a very small deck or a little bigger room with a fire place.

Stayed in a two bedroom unit with absolutely every bell and whistle. Loved that washer/dryer was part of the unit and even laundry detergent was provided. Our DVD player gave us some issues when trying to play a Blue-Ray Disc and the staff swapped it out with another in just a few minutes. The breakfast was yummy with an extensive continental spread along with hot oatmeal and belgian waffles. The location right in the center of Vail allowed us to walk everywhere or take the shuttle if we wanted to go further away. We felt very spoiled when we saw what a wonderful place this was and we were spoiled every day staying there. Would recommend going through the rental company that rents out the privately owned units rather than booking a room through the hotel staff. We got a much better deal this way. The hotel staff actually recommended talking to the rental company (they'll give you the phone #). Would certainly stay here again!

This hotel is reminiscent of some of the places I’ve stayed at in Switzerland, except the room here is spacious and so is the bathroom. It is nicely appointed, but not luxurious. We had a nice little balcony, but not much of a view. The location is great, easy walking distances to all the places in Vail, many restaurants and shops are nearby. The staff is helpful and friendly.

The Austria Haus is okay, and the beds are very comfortable. Don't expect much more than that! Bathroom is very small, with not enough towel bar space for even 2 people (this was in the double room, where potentially 4 people could stay). Shower didn't drain properly, leaving us standing in inches of water. Light switches throughout the room have apparently been partially updated, leaving very confusing system of lighting. We actually had to call the desk for info on how to get the bathroom lights to turn on. With our second call, they sent 2 young men up to show us, and even they had to play around with the switches to get them to work. I asked them if this was a frequent problem (having guests who have trouble with the switches) and he said yes, it happens a lot. Wouldn't you think they would fix the problem, or at least warn people about it at check-in, rather than leaving us to hassle with it upon entering the room? Still, they made no apology for the problem, and my friend and I had the impression they were probably laughing at us for our struggles. Lots of other minor problems with the stay, but the biggest other major problem was the free breakfast. Items were not fresh, probably because even though this was their low season and there weren't many guests at the hotel, they still spread out huge trays of bread items on the tables, which then sat there for hours. And apparently just set the same ones again the next day, because they were consistently stale and virtually inedible. Fruit salad was tired and mushy and there again, seemed obviously reused day after day. Meat and cheese platters were also laid out uncovered for hours, and therefore dried out and unappealing. Staff at the hotel were friendly and the valet parking was efficient and friendly, although all they do is park your car on the lower level of the building, so it kind of leaves you wondering why you can't just do that yourself. Not the worst place we've ever stayed in Vail, but definitely not the best!

My husband and I stayed at Austria Haus Hotel for five nights the last week in September and it was an awesome experience. The staff were very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful in every aspect. The room and bathroom was very large with comfortable bedding and lots of pillows. Having a heated bathroom floor each morning was a special treat. Breakfast was delicious with something different each day, as well as the traditional yogurt, fresh fruit, pastries, breads, coffee and juices. We never left hungry. The hotel is in a great location to Vail Village. We were able to walk anywhere we wanted to go, or could catch the shuttle bus next door to the hotel. Shuttle bus ran every 10 minutes and it was free. We were also able to get our vehicle anytime we needed it. By the time we got down stairs, the car was sitting out front. We will stay again!!!
