We took a mini trip to Vail and selected the Austria Haus hotel. It appears to be part hotel/ part residence club. Residence clubs I believe are fractional ownership/time shares. That said there was absolutely no time share sales pitch. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is well maintained and I saw no evidence of worn out articles or things in need of repair. Our room did not include a fireplace and was sized for two people. There were no burned out light bulbs or broken switches. The room was spotless and maintained. Breakfast was included and there was always something different each day. Don't expect IHOP breakfasts but do expect fresh, healthy and filling meals. The pool/hot tub was in great shape though small given the hotel size so you might run into a seating issue. There is nothing I could point to that I would say was unacceptable. The Vail village is served by a bus system that moves you throughout the area so you do not necessarily need a car, though prices are higher in the village.
I rated the hotel as 4 stars (though I would have given it 4.5) based upon a couple of opportunities for improvement. First, the breakfast area is a bit crowded with the furniture needed to seat the guests. This can make for some interesting travels as you move from the food locations, past others to your table. Second, the location of the bath towels was hidden when the bathroom door and the privy door were open. I ended up drying off with a hand towel until I found the bath towels. What was interesting was a towel bar was inside the shower area and was stocked with hand towels and wash cloths but no bath towels. The shower area has a deep soaker tub but that also means getting up and over the tub to get into the shower. All in all though these are observations not problems. I'd definitely book the Austria Haus agin when returning to Vail.
