“Good food, small portions, a bit slow”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 April 2014

We had a voucher through Travelzoo so the cost wasn't what the menus said for us. That being said, the prices were still quite high. You expect this in Vail. You get to spend every dollar you expect here. The service was friendly but a bit slow too.

“Great dinner in Vail”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2014

I love Ludwig's but then again, I love everything about the Sonnenalp. We ate dinner here over spring break with a Travel Zoo certificate and we had a fabulous meal. The service was excellent (very hard to find this in Vail) and the food was top-notch quality. Of course, the alpine Austrian ambience of Ludwig's and all of Sonnenalp can't be beat. After dinner, we stopped by the lounge where they had live music. We had so much fun listening to music while the kids played checkers in the library. Great night and we'll definitely be back.

“nice brunch”

Old school feel to the room was charming, All the food great. very good selection of breakfast favorites. Just make sure you don't go late or the section gets significantly smaller at the end of service.

“Nice decor, nice staff, food just okay.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2014

I ordered John Dory, a fish, and it was very fishy tasting and I have had it before and it never tasted so bad. I could not finish my meal. It was, however, not the waiters fault. Stefan was great!! The dessert was also very good.

“The Quintessential Vail Atmosphere in a Restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 March 2014

Ludwig's is located inside the Sonnenalp Hotel, and a bit difficult to find even once you are there. If you are looking for old world ambiance, this is it. Both the atmosphere and the service were impeccable. For a restaurant of the stature, our food experience was a bit of a mixed bag. My potato soup was outstanding, as was their preparation of rack-of-lamb. The sea bass served to my wife was another matter. For a restaurant that prides itself on its seafood, the fish was sub-par. It neither looked like, had the texture, nor tasted like sea bass (we are very familiar with most of the variants marketed under the name "sea bass"). In fairness, we should have asked for much more detail on the nature and preparation of the fish before hand (lesson learned). Their deserts were excellent.
