“Focused Austrian Retreat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 March 2014 credit card Amex Cardmember Review

Alpenrose is a long-time institution in Vail, one of the first restaurants to buy into Peter Seibert and Bob Parker's vision of an American ski circus with destination amenities. The menu and ambiance are tightly focused on Alpen cuisine, with Austrian specialties dominating the sensibly-scaled menu. Our entrees (chicken and veal) were precisely and properly seasoned, with perfectly prepared sides, and friendly, attentive service. An appetizer delivered to a neighboring table, the "farmer's platter" of assorted dried meats and sausage, was large enough to serve as an entree. Be prepared - the place is pricey, but well worth the money for the quality food and wonderful dining experience.

“Our party of six all had excellent entrees and service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 March 2014

Our party all had excellent entrees. Party one had the Kasepfanne, beef tips under melted Appenzeller cheese. A large portion enough for two to split, great value and indicated it was her favorite entree at Alpenrose. Party two and three had the Jageschnitzel, veal medallions with a forest mushroom brandy cream sauce, the veal was very tender and melted in your mouth. Party four had the Wiener Schnitzel, breaded veal, and again very tender. Party 5 had salmon, nice size piece cooked to his liking and indicated it was fresh. These five entrees were served with spatzle and vegetable of the day, which were not overcooked. We all enjoyed the spatzle and thought it was very good. Party 6 had the filet mignon, tender and cooked to her liking served with mashed potato, demi glaze, and vegetable. We also had salads to start with, one a caesar and the rest of us had the salad plate that includes German potato salad, red cabbage, cucumber and tomato. The portions here are very nice size and a very good value. If you have apps before hand, two people could split a salad and entree. Our waiter was excellent, could answer all our questions, friendly, not stuffy, entrees came hot and he knew the menu well. We did not have room for dessert but we all took something home from the dessert case - coconut Macaroon (GF), eclairs, cookies, brownie cake. Its all yummy! If you sit up stairs for dinner during the wintertime, it is very warm, so do not wear a heavy sweater or shirt. Also, Alpenrose is one of the best paces in town to stop for an late afternoon appetizer. The Farmer's plate could be a meal for two. A friend really enjoyed the smoked salmon app too.

“Loved our dinner at Alpenrose”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 March 2014

Me and some friends just returned from a ski vacation in Vail. Our first night in town we had dinner at Alpenrose and it was fantastic. The restaurant is an authentic european restaurant & bakery. We each had different entrees and everyone was please with their selection. I had a craving for pasta so I chose the pasta and bolognese sauce. It was delicious. We all had desserts and they were also great. I had the apple strudel with vanilla ice cream. It was fresh, full of apples and I loved every bite.

The staff was really friendly and the restaurant also has a huge outdoor patio to enjoy after a day of skiing. They even have live muse sometime and the duo performing when we were there was really talented. Our meal was so good we considered eating there again before we left and Vail has a lot of good restaurants. I highly recommend trying out Alpenrose.
