“Great Stay with two young daughters”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 March 2010

We stayed here during week of President's day with our 6 and 9 year old daughters and had a great time. The rooms were comfortable and well-maintained, and the decor pleasantly reminded me of 1970s/1980s "modern", which is probably about when it was built/designed. The pool and hot tubs were great as was the daily shuttle to and from the lifts. If you don't have young children, you could easily walk to the lifts, though perhaps not the first day if you are not used to the altitude.

The managers were very helpful, with our requested humidifiers waiting for us in our rooms. There were pleasant even when I yelled at them when I was suffering from mountain sickness the first night and couldn't figure out how to switch the bathtub faucet to the shower (there is a ring around the spout that you need to pull down).

If you are looking for luxury, this is not the place for you, but if you are here for the skiing and need a clean, reasonably priced well-maintained condo with two hot tubs, a pool, and other very friendly guests, the Wren is great.

We had a great vacation here. The location is perfect for Vail village a short walk from the back of the hotel through a lovely pathway by the river. The condo was very comfortable and clean with everything you need. Our boys enjoyed the pool, volleyball and badminton, both of which you can borrow equipment from the front desk, and they met lots of other kids their age. Although it is a little dated that should definitely not put anyone off from coming here. Vail village is beautiful as is the surrounding area and if anyone is into mountain biking we would recomend going up the gondola in Loinshead to Vail mountain where you will find easy and intermediate trails, we have 9 and 12 yr old boys who loved it.

We were a mixed group of 8 on an easter ski trip from the UK to Vail.
We stayed in rooms 210 and 417. The previous review is correct about 417- there is noise from the lift gear in the 'Den' bedroom, so if you are a light sleeper stay away from 417.
210 was our main base room for the rest of the group- 3 bedrooms. 1 king ensuite bathroom, 1 double, 1 twin. Double and twin share a bathroom off the main corridor.
The ensuite room was a good size, the double which I shared with my wife was ok but we're used to a king size bed at home so it took a little getting used to. One small negative- there's no mirror in the double room so my wife had to wait for the bathroom.

Overall the accomodation looks slightly tired but is maintained well. If we reported any problems then they were delt with quickly. The shuttle bus was a god send for skiers- it's just that bit too far to walk in ski boots. Boarders can easily walk back from the slopes in 10 minutes.

For the balance between price and proximity to the slopes (and walking to Vail Village in the evening) you can't really beat this place. If I came to Vail again I might be tempted to book last minute and try to get something that's ski-in ski-out. If you need to book early then this is a good option.

As a note there is some background noise from the I-70, but nothing to keep me awake.

We booked a week holiday to Vail and stayed at the Wren, we booked into a studio apartment with den (Room 417) with a second bed, pull down, in the livingroom. The accommodation was great except for the bedroom which was very small, like a cave, and was adjacent to the elevator which made a horrendous noise all night and made it impossible to sleep, we spent the other 6 nights sleeping on the pull down bed in the livingroom, which was very comfortable, but not what had been planned. The kitchen, bathroom and location were great and could not be faulted and the minibus that took you to the slopes each day was fantastic. Next time, for 2 persons, we would book the studio apartment only, for more we would book the bigger apartment but we would never stay in 417 again!

Oh my god. I didn't know what to expect but this cute well maintained place blew me away. It's not swanky or brand new but it's still flawless. You can just tell they keep the place up. Everything you could ever want or desire in the kitchen and cabinets, from a workout machine, to books to travel guides to extra blankets to every single thing you'd ever find in a kitchen shop. Holy moly! This was my first stay. The staff was pleasant. The place is run well and they give you everything you could ever want and more.

This place is one of the few small hotels that has figured out that if you offer wonderful accommodations, clean, quiet and well maintained, you'll keep people coming back.

I'll definitely be back. The unit designated parking spots when you first come in show you just how they value you as a guest. Add the pool, volleyball, pool room, free coffee, free wi fi, and the gorgeous views of the mountain, what doesn't it have?

You can hideaway here. Front desk and housekeeping are there for you but they don't bother you and there isn't always someone knocking at your door like at major hotels. The whole experience was very comfy, super private and I just loved the place. Adorable. If you want to hideway and rest, this is the perfect cute place. Plenty of room and CLEAN!

  • Liked — quiet and homey feel
  • Disliked — nothing. it's adorable.

We were very late arriving at The Wren - too late to book in but a quick phone call and we were able to pick up the keys from a lock box in the lobby. The accomodation was a 1 bedroom appartment with a great bathroom and a well equipped open plan lounge/kitchen/diner that opened out onto a balcony overlooking the park. The closeness of the interstate running parallel to the hotel didn't really bother us, once we we inside the appartment we couldn't hear any traffic noise and the park and gardens next door more than compensates for it.
Vail and the ajoining villages were very disappointing, the area is one huge construction site and will be so until at least 2010. It dosn't really cater for out of season visitors and we were hard pressed to find anything open.

  • Liked — size of the appartment
  • Disliked — construction sites everwhere

We stayed here with two of our adult 'kids' and had a great time! The condo is very roomy and clean and extremely quiet, even with it being close to the interstate. The pool was the warmest I have even been in and not crowded at all. There were two hot tubs adjacent to the pool, so you always had one to yourselves.
The office has internet access for a quick check of anything you are interested in and they have coffee, tea and sometimes muffins!
There is a great community room with a pool table and fireplace and books to borrow. The staff is wonderful and helpful, since we bought a set of skiis and wanted to ship them home via the post office...they helped us find a box to fit and were so friendly!
We had a great time!
The only drawbacks, if you could call it that, is that you had to drive over to Vail Village or Lionshead to shop or whatever, not a problem in the summer with free parking in the village, but I could see that being a slight inconvenience in the winter.
We would definitely go back here to stay!

  • Liked — Roominess and quietness
  • Disliked — Room attendents didn't come until the afternoon
