This is the best location if you want to enjoy snow without spending your time. Small but beautiful village. You walk out the hotel and you find the Eagle Bahn gondola that take you to the slopes and the Adventure Ridge, also the ski school is there!!!. Affordable shops, ski rentals, bars and restaurants just steps away. Luxury hotels across the street. Shuttle to Vail and Beaver Creek 3 blocks away. You don't need a car there but if you rent one this hotel is one of the few with free parking.Nice breakfast for $10 usd at hotel restaurant. Not a luxury property but with the location, mountain view and service of one of them. I'ts like staying in an affordable Disney's resort, all attractions close no matter your age!!! We decided we'll come back next year!!

P.S. If you can afford it you must try snowmobile, ask for info at the lobby they pick you up there.

We stopped in Vail on a whim, since my youngest child had gotten sick. We found this property in our AAA Guidebook and booked a room, not knowing what to expect. It was very lovely. We had a 2 bedroom, 2 full bath BEAUTIFUL condo with a balcony, living room, dining room, and full kitchen. It was like being at home (just with a much better view). The condo was nicely furnished and very comfortable. The front desk was extremely helpful in helping us find a restaurant that the kids would like.

Overall, this was by far the best place we stayed on our 17 day trip. I cannot wait to come back during the winter season.

We stayed at the Lion Square lodge in August 2007. It was clean and our one bedroom suite was spacious. We had been warned there was construction nearby so I booked our room directly with the hotel and requested a "quiet" room. We had a view of a bike path and creek outside our window. We didn't hear the construction noise, however if we were in a different room we may have been bothered by the noise. It's a close walk to shops and restaurants and we took the gondola up to the top and hiked around. We should have brought frisbees as there was a frisbee golf game set up. We liked the restaurant at the top of the gondola. It was a bit pricey but great food. We also enjoyed the large farmer's market on Sunday. Lots of variety of food and crafts. We would definitely stay there again when in Vail.

The Lion Square Lodge has rooms as well as condos. We had a one bedroom condo facing the mountains. The view was perfect. The condo was large with plenty of room for four. Beds very cozy. Our 2 girls slept comfortably on the sofa sleeper. Kitchen had everything possibly needed. Housekeeping was great. The front desk was very nice and helpful. Harvey was very friendly. It was nice for the kids to get hot chocolate and cookies from the lobby in the evenings. (it's offered 24/7) The pool was very clean and at a good temperature. They even offered pool toys and towels. I highly recommend this hotel. Especially rooms with a view. We will be back to the Lion Square Lodge for sure!

You can't beat the location of this hotel, right next to the gondola. We stayed in one of the lodge rooms and had a fantastic view of the mountain & a very comfortable room.
Snow fantastic - can't beat Vail for variable ski terrain and fantastic mountain organisation

I booked our stay at the Lion Square Lodge with a bit of hesitation after reading some of the negative reviews. But with an Entertainment Coupon Book 50% discount of $120/night, I was willing to take the risk for the best deal in Vail.

The Lion Square turned out to be one of the best places I've stayed. Sure, some of the furniture in the 1 BR/2 BA condo (plus two hide-a-beds in the living room/dining room) was a bit dated. But the appliances in the kitchen were new, and the place was spotless. There was a gas fireplace and balcony with a gas grill and a great view of the mountains. The front desk staff were warm, friendly, extremely helpful, and made us feel like guests, not just customers. Even the housekeeping staff were gracious and did the most thorough daily cleaning I've ever had in a multi-day condo stay. Our first night, we used the nightly run to the supermarket on the hotel shuttle to stock up on breakfast and snack items, so the kitchen in the unit was very handy.

You can't beat the location right next to the Eagle Bahn gondola. Everything we needed was within a few steps or a quick ride on the free Town of Vail bus. Sure, they're building the huge new ArraBelle complex next door, but all the structural work has been completed, and the construction never bothered our sleep.

Instead of taking the Colorado Mountain Express directly to the hotel, we were dropped off at the Vail Transportation Center (saving $52 round-trip by reserving on CME's website). At the Transportation Center, you can catch the free Town of Vail or the free Eagle County (ECO Transit) bus to the West Lionshead Plaza (also called the Concert Hall Plaza) stop which is a few yards from the Lion Gate (avoiding the construction site and all the skiiers heading to/from the gondola that you have to navigate from the Lionshead Village stop).

The Vail Daily newspaper (which is distributed to Lion Gate guests daily along with USA Today) has coupons and ads for dinner discounts. The best deal we found was at The George Pub by the covered bridge in Vail Village. Their early season discount included $6.50 for "pub grub" (burgers, sandwiches, etc.) and $15 for all entrees, including filet mignon and crab legs.

If you're looking for something posh and pricey, try the nearby Marriott, but if you're looking for a nice, friendly, comfortable, reasonably priced, and incredibly well-located place for your Vail adventures, the Lion Square Lodge is the place for you.

Stayed 4 nights for my son's wedding. The staff was very friendly and cooperative. Even though there was construction going on nearby, it was still a positive visit. Room was spacious and clean. The housekeeping staff was fast and efficient. The room had a hard wired Internet connection that worked very well. I would recommend this place very highly.
