“Enjoyed our stay”

We had a great time in Vail and a large part of that had to do with our stay at Lion Square. The location is perfect - right next to the Eagle Bahn gondola. Our room was quite large, spacious, clean and fairly well appointed with gas fireplace; we also had a balcony with view. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We wholeheartedly recommend Lion Square to others.

My family and I traveled to Vail from Tennessee in February for a ski vacation, and despite several previous trips to the area, this visit was our best yet. The Lion's Square was extremely accommodating for our seven member group (small children included), and everyone on staff (especially the front desk crew) met our every need.

We will definitely include The Lion Square on our next family adventure this coming February!

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights in Sept. There was a lot going on in Vail - Octoberfest (in Sept?) and a Sunday Farmer's Market, and a foot or bike race seemingly every day. The property is down near the river, far enough away from the action to be truly peaceful and quiet, but still just a block from the action. The gondola is 100 feet from the back door. Next time i will probably stay in Vail Village proper, instead of Lionshead, because most of the best shopping and virtually all of the top restauants are over there, 10 minutes brisk walk away. The fall is a great time to visit Vail as the weather is warm during the day, cool at night, the crowds are low, and prices can be half price the peak season rate.

Wow! What a place. We stayed here off season and I booked a one bedroom condo for an amazing price. Instead we were provided a huge two bedroom, two bath, fully equipped kitchen, immaculately clean place with a balcony that looked out on the gondola and the stream. The hot tub was easily accessible and a welcome after hiking. Free bottled water was appreciated. It is also very close to fun shopping areas. The gas fireplace added a nice touch. The propane grill would have been nice to use, we just didn't have time. The bed was huge and comfortable. We cracked the window a bit to hear the stream outside our window. The gentleman at the desk was very helpful. Having lived in Vail for over 20 years he had a lot of great insight on what to do and where to go. We took a short trip to Edwards one evening... what a charming village. Then went up in the mountains to Red Cliff, past an old ghost town, then hiking. Very nice. The rangers at Minton (?) were most helpful in providing details about trails that would suit us best. I'd go again tomorrow!! The construction was a non issue.... There is construction everywhere in Vail.

We absolutley loved our stay at Lions Head. Got a GREAT deal from Hot Wire. They were doing some construction although we never knew it... they put us facing Vail Mtn. right next to the Gondola! Best view from our balcony that you could ever imagine! Clean Condons...very roomy and the kitchen had everything you would need! We will be staying here again this summer! Looking forward to the great views!

This was our February school vacation and traveled with my husband and 2 kids, ages, 13 and 9.

The Lions Square Lodge is a true ski in ski out, right next to the gondola and the born free quad chair lift. The ski valets were there every day to get our ski's and take our skis. The hotel offered 24/7 free coffee, hot coco, apple cider, cookies, granola bars and fresh fruit. The staff was polite and friendly and knowledgeable about the mountain and where to ski. Harvey was our concierge and again very knowledgeable of the surroundings of the Lions Head Village and Vail Village.

*The hotel room was a standard room with 2 double beds. Very comfortable, new bedding. We had a refrigerator, flat screen tv, table 2 chairs, reading lamps over the beds alongside a nightstand lamp. A patio with 2 chairs and a table and our room was #162 and we had a mountain view and we were on the bottom floor. We had great housekeeping service, plenty of towels and Aveda toiletries to boot. They provided humidifiers, wall safe, Robes to go to the pool with and robes for kids upon request. The room didn't lack for anything!

The first floor was the access to the mens/women's changing rooms that got you to the hot tubs and the swimming pool.

Changing rooms had a bathroom, shower, mirror and counter, sink and blow dryers, plenty of hooks and towels. Rather nice. Also they provide big plastic cups for your beverages as glass is not allowed in the pool area.

Vending machines water/snacks are also on the first floor along with 3 computer cabinets which were free. Just obtain the key for the front desk.

Great service, nice lobby, not huge but 3 big couches with a fire place, a table and 4 chairs and a door off the area that leads to outside overlooking the mountain with chairs outside, very nice.

In Lions Head Village, its pedestrian, no cars and there is a free shuttle bus that drives you into Vail Village. You stop at the Library, Medical Center then the village. It's a 12 min walk if you don't want to wait for the bus. We walked one night.

Vail Village too is pedestrian too. Shops and restaurants just like Lions Head Village.

Restaurants: Lions Head:

Montauk Seafood Grill-Excellent seafood, quality and service. Great Margarita Martini's.

*Mezzaluna: Only ate there the day we arrived. Great tasting burgers, good service and the view of the mountain from the restaurant. Didn't eat dinner there but avoid for breakfast, took 40 mins for 4 orders of french toast. We left, it took too long and I think the chef or the waitress fell asleep. Lunch is good if your not in a hurry, but avoid breakfast unless you have the time.

*Marriott Hotel: Buffet Breakfast, typical but great and try their signature french toast, its a must drizzled with raspberry and creme freche'. Well worth the price and the only breakfast true breakfast place around.

*Garfinkels: Great Apres ski, big beer assortment and the Nacho's were huge and flavorful. Overlooks the mountain right in front of the Gondola and the Born Free Chair lift. It was always packed. They had heaters outside too.

*Flying Burrito: Ate breakfast there, eggs, bagles and breakfast burrito's, cereal, muffins. Friendly staff, plenty of places to sit. Hit the place after skiing for a margarita (very good) and tortilla chips and a salsa assortment (5). The pineapple salsa very good, but hot!

Vail Village: Alpenrose, awesome, very expensive, but worth it. The food, service, quality, superb. It's a German Restaurant, great wiener schnitzel and the duck looked awesome.

Ore House: Steak house, but again good food, service and quality. Known for steaks, but the Ribs were to die for! Get a loaded potatoe, just awesome.

Los Amigos: Stay clear of the margarita's. Probably the worse one I've ever had. All sour mix and couldn't even taste the tequilla.

The Creperie: Awesome crepes made right in front of you. Sweet or savory, huge and tasty crepe's. They also had a lot of gelato to pick from. The white chocolate mint and cupcake were very good.

Campo Di Fiori: Awesome Italian food. No chicken parm on this menu. But tons to choose from, great service, quality and flavorful food. A bit loud, but a lot of fun. Huge high ceilings, and the kitchen is open to the restaurant which is rather nice.

In Lions Head Village there is a liquor store and a general store. Liquor stores are closed on Sunday FYI.

There is a new skating rink too, you can rent and skate. We found it mostly closed the whole week we were there.

Sharpen your ski's for $5 while you wait next to Garfinkels.
They do have a Starbucks too and plenty of T shirt shops.
There is a French Deli'- the sandwiches looked awesome and they do bagel sandwiches for breakfast too.

The Mountain: The best place to eat on the mountain, 2Elks Lodge, huge, plenty of seating and they people that work there greet you with tissues on the way in. Food is excellent. Try the pizza, the best I've ever had, nice crust. The Buffalo chilli was excellent. Great cookies too.

Overall a fantastic trip. I'd go back in a heartbeat and to the same hotel too. It really should be a 4 star, but it has everything there that you need especially if your not in your room.

If you decide to dogsled, book 2-3 months out. We used Mountain Mushers and that's all they do, no snow mobiling etc. strictly dogs and they were great and have been in the business for 20 years. It's family run. They let my 9 year old mush 1/3 of the way back, lot of fun.

Good Luck-Great Trip!

This is the best location if you want to enjoy snow without spending your time. Small but beautiful village. You walk out the hotel and you find the Eagle Bahn gondola that take you to the slopes and the Adventure Ridge, also the ski school is there!!!. Affordable shops, ski rentals, bars and restaurants just steps away. Luxury hotels across the street. Shuttle to Vail and Beaver Creek 3 blocks away. You don't need a car there but if you rent one this hotel is one of the few with free parking.Nice breakfast for $10 usd at hotel restaurant. Not a luxury property but with the location, mountain view and service of one of them. I'ts like staying in an affordable Disney's resort, all attractions close no matter your age!!! We decided we'll come back next year!!

P.S. If you can afford it you must try snowmobile, ask for info at the lobby they pick you up there.
