From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome in this lovely property. Despite Vail suffering from low temperatures, we were very cosy in this hotel, whether in our very well appointed room, in Ludwig’s restaurant, in the bar, in Bully’s Ranch or in the spa area. First, our room. Gorgeous, gorgeous bed, linens, pillows that you just sank into. So much so, that you didn’t want to get out of bed at all. The fire was a lovely touch too. The bathroom was huge complete with tub and separate shower as well as two vanity sinks. We had a great lunch at Bully’s with fantastic staff and it was nice to see the owners in there dining, too. The spa was our highlight as it reminded us very much of Austrian hotels in the Alps with the open fire, the tea, the yellow and white candy striped loungers, the hot tub as well as the indoor/outdoor pool which was lovely to swim in especially as it had just snowed outside. We also dined at the Swiss Chalet restaurant and we highly recommend you go for the cheese fondue – a real delight. In summary, it was a short stay at Sonnenalp, but a dreamy one. I hope to return one day so experience some more Austrian Gemütlichkeit in the heart of the Colorado Rockies.

The Sonnenalp Resort is an incredible place for a vacation in Vail. Everyone at the Sonnenalp is friendly and anxious to help you with whatever you may need. The restaurants are awesome. The view from the rooms is incredible and it is very convenient to local restaurants, shopping and skiing. Can't say enough good things about this place.

Room Tip: Rooms with view of Gore Creek are by far the best.

Returning to the Sonnenalp was as delightful as expected. Our suite was spacious, beautifully appointed and cared for superbly. From the moment we arrived at the entrance our carefree ski holiday had begun. Our luggage was collected & promptly brought to our suite, our car parked, my skis, poles, boots, etc. were transported to the Bridge Street Ski Haus to be prepared for skiing the next day.

Thanks to Johannes Faessler, his charming wife & the entire staff at the Sonnenalp for this special experience.

Bill & Sarah Marx

Room Tip: All of the rooms are terrific. On this trip we stayed in a Mill Creek Suite.

What are the words I can use to express our gratitude for an amazing memorable birthday celebration for my wife. Joyous, refreshing, personal, service extraordinary, family-centric, warmth with the at-home feeling – the list can go on and on. She continues to extol the pure joy and enjoyment that this experience gave her. Being treated like “royalty” (genuine and sincere) has given her a new level of appreciation of what exceptional service delivered in a beautiful environment can provide to a guest in the Sonnenalp. Now she wants this to be an annual birthday celebration!
What made this possible for us were the following
• Exceptional staff. Everyone from bellhops, front desk check-in, servers, housekeeping and the ski concierge fellows – professional, friendly, helpful and engaging.
• Ambiance. Family friendly, warm, cozy, small touches everywhere that personalize the entire experience. Looking out over the snow covered landscape from the warmth of Ludwig’s breakfast room was idyllic
• Rooms. Our room was spacious yet intimate. Warm floor in the bath, log fire place, comfortable chairs and a king size bed to sleep in forever.
• Services. Highlight was the new Ski Concierge where our skis were taken from the hotel to near the base of the Gondola to a warm and welcoming location where Zack, Chad and others tend to your every need: ski boots warmed, assistance putting them on, skis carried to the lift line and best of all being greeted at the end of the last run of the day to have your skis taken back to the SC storage locker. Heavenly. Other touches from the Spa (massage and facial for my wife), to the complimentary champagne and appetizers in our room to celebrate my wife’s birthday are just a few of the everyday moments that demonstrate the Sonnenalp’s commitment to providing an exceptional guest experience.
We can’t wait until our next visit.

First trip to Vail. Such a beautiful ski destination. Without a doubt Sonnenalp completes the experience.

Service is top notch. 5 Stars to say the least. Everyone I encountered was friendly, well polished, and competent in their role.

The room was lovely. A loft set up with the bedroom upstairs. All amenities has been carefully considered. Housekeeping is precise and detail oriented.

The restaurant for dinner has delicious burgers and the best mud slides.

Breakfast is divine. With its atrium setting, amazing buffet, class act servers, and Lavazza coffee you will feel up high in the sky.

If you were smart enough to stay here already, the town of Vail is walking distance. My suggestions on other venues for food would be the dining room (steak) at the Four Seasons and checking out the lounge at The Sebastian.

To really experience Vail in true luxury this is the place to go. The nature of my trip was business, and I can't wait to come back with the family.

We were sent an e mail 2 days before our arrival asking what time we expected to arrive and if we had any requests. Our suite was perfect with robes and slippers and a gas log fire, chocolates and cake were delivered during the afternoon, cookies early evening. The Spa facilities and staff were first class. John who took us and our luggage to our suite and parked our car was very helpful and set up the humidifier for us. We didn't have breakfast so can't comment though am sure it would have been outstanding. Can't wait to return.

Five circles are inadequate to properly rate Sonnenalp. We stopped in Vail on our way home from Boise, and what a perfect choice this was. From the time we checked in, we were made to feel special. Shortly after arriving in our suite and discovering all the comfortable features (heated bathroom floor, robes and slippers, fire place, etc.), a bottle of complimentary champagne was delivered to celebrate my wife's birthday. Later in the evening after enjoying the food and beverages in the Bully Ranch Restaurant, we returned to our room to find that the staff had provided turndown service with water, cookies, etc. It made us feel like we were on a cruise ship. The next morning, we enjoyed breakfast in Ludwig's. We ordered from the menu as we do not eat a lot of food, but the buffet was as good as any we have seen anywhere. It seems like one can save a few dollars by ordering the breakfast as part of the room package. For the rest of our stay, our experience was just great. The staff just can't seem to do enough to please the guests.
