The Sonnenalp never disappoints. My wife and I stay there each year and there is no better place to be pampered, relax, and enjoy great food. Everything is always perfect. Johannas and Rosanna are the ultimate hotel managers. They leave nothing to chance and their guests are treated like royalty. The spa is relaxing and has beautiful amenities. You can't beat the new steam room and a cold plunge! The restaurants always provide amazing food. I've traveled all over the world and The Sonnenalp is #1 with me.

This was my third time staying at the Sonnenalp, and each time it has been perfect. This visit was with my mom to celebrate her 80th birthday. We had a bottle of wine waiting in our room on arrival, which was a lovely touch. We stayed in a Lodgepole Suite for 3 nights which was wonderful. Nice and spacious, very big bathroom with heated floor. Good value for money, as breakfast was included in the room rate. As the weather was so nice we were able to sit by the pool and also go swimming. Everything is so clean, and the staff are very friendly, efficient and provide exceptional service. We called housekeeping to ask for a small table and 2 chairs for our balcony, and they were at our door within 5 minutes. The breakfast buffett is amazing....the best I've ever had. The whole experience reminds me of being in Europe. I'll be back again very soon.

This hotel was a great place to really begin our Colorado adventure. It is located within walking distance of all parts of the central village and is designed in a great swiss chalet design.

The staff were faultless, particularly the Austrian waitress who made us feel right at home. Despite the room we were given being on the ground floor there was not a sound all night, and the beds were very comfortable.

An added little bonus during summer, is that if you don`t fancy paying the $20 for valet parking there is free parking 5 minutes walk away in the Village Parking Lot.

We only stayed one night, but saw enough to convince us it would be a great place for a longer vacation.

The hotel was absolutely beautiful, and right in the heart of Vail. The breakfast buffet was one of the best I have ever attended. There are a lot of little perks to one's stay at this hotel. I would not stay at another place in Vail.

We went to Vail for one just one night after spending a day exploring our personal histories in the Eagle and Sweetwater areas. I think we expected to feel a little alienated in the big ski area atmosphere, but instead we felt like we had found a comfortable respite. The "cheap" rooms--Juniper--are large and comfortable. We couldn't have asked for more. I had mentioned that we were celebrating my husbands birthday, hoping for a nice view. When we checked in we found a bottle of wine waiting, complements of the managers. Honestly, there is not much more you could want in a hotel room. And the breakfast buffet is beyond perfect. From the perfect coffee to the fabulous pastries, with eggs and sausage included, we have never seen such a buffet. This is a total experience. Highly recommended!!

This was a romantic weekend getaway and we were booked in a king room, but checked into a room with queens. The front desk staff overpromised and underdelivered on multiple occations (room type, view) so I would confirm the room type and view you want before you check in. We were moved the second night to a room with a king. The suites would be perfect for a family with children as there is a lot of room, murphy bed in living room, dining table & the closet is huge. The rooms are cozy with comfortable beds & nice bathrooms. Housekeeping and cookies at turndown were great. The massage at the spa and the indoor/outdoor pool were wonderful. Breakfast was all I could ever want.

We spent 4 nights in the Sonnenalp on a trip to Colorado. The town of Vail is a little limited if you aren't a big shopper, but it is a great home base if you want to enjoy the mountains (we were there to hike, and there are numerous great hiking trails nearby). There are also many very good restaurants in town.

Our room, the basic Juniper Hotel Room, was not especially large but was certainly comfortable. The bathroom was handicap-accessible (though neither of us is handicapped), which meant it had a very small vanity and no tub. I would have preferred a room with a tub (as the website describes the Juniper Hotel Rooms as having a combination tub/shower, and I like to take baths) and more sink space, but we were told at the front desk that no other rooms were available. In any case, the bathroom was large, very clean, and functional.

The towels and bedding were luxuriously soft and carefully tended by housekeeping. We enjoyed being able to leave the door open to our balcony at night, letting the cool mountain air in. Closets were a bit small but adequate, with plenty of hangers.

Housekeeping service was especially attentive. Rooms are cleaned promptly in the morning. In the evening around 5pm, ice is brought to each room. In the evening while you're out at dinner, beds are turned down, towels replaced if necessary, and bottled water and cookies are left in the room.

Breakfast was included in our room rate and it was excellent. Though the staff does seem to get a little overwhelmed when the dining room is full, most of the breakfast is buffet-style, so one can take care of oneself. And the buffet is plentiful indeed. The best scrambled eggs, excellent sausage and bacon, a wide variety of fruits and cereals, European-style sliced meats and cheeses, and many pastries. We loved it.

The room was very quiet--although the hotel was full part of the time we were there, we never heard another guest. Our balcony opened out over a small parking court where there was occasionally some noise in the morning, but nothing that bothered us.

A small gripe: The Sonnenalp prides itself on environmental consciousness. Like most hotels these days, guests are offered the option of reusing towels or having them changed each day. We would gladly have reused our towels, but there was only one small hook on the back of the door in the bathroom, and no towel bars that were appropriate for hanging bath towels (only small ones for hand towels). Thus we were literally left with no other option but to put the used towels on the floor. (Just inside the door to the room were a couple of coat hooks, so we used those for the bathrobes to keep from having to put them on the floor, too.) The bathroom was certainly large enough to accommodate at least two large hooks on the walls for hanging towels. It's a mystery why more hotels don't think about this.

Overall, if we returned to Vail we would certainly consider staying at the Sonnenalp again, winter or summer.
