“Vail Racquet Club Delivers”
Reviewed 2 October 2013

I stayed here at the end of June. The summer season is beautiful in Vail and I was there for the Vail Lacrosse Tournament. The price was very reasonable especially splitting it with 2 other guys. There are a few different arrangements available but we had a 2 bed, 2 bath condo with a full kitchen for 4 nights. It was clean, well kept up and fully stocked with kitchen utensils, pots, pans, etc. We were right up against the river, which was nice, but not too far on the other side was the highway. The place came with access to the hot tubs, gym, loaner bikes, tennis courts and a few more amenities. Staff was nice and helpful.

It wasn't as close to the tournament sites in Vail as I had hoped but we figured we had to drive around anyway. I'd certainly recommend this place.

It is all about location and it is hard to go wrong in Vail valley while the aspens are in the middle of their golden splendor. This facility must have been glorious in the 60's and 70's when Vail was in its prime. A rating of "poor" seems harsh, however this place is really dated and there are far better properties to choose from in Vail at even a Groupon price.

Your options include climbing a long and high stairway to heaven for an upper location or taking many steps down to a dark dungeon. Icy areas were not attended to and we noticed that most units had glass doors and windows located right on walkways. We were assigned a lower level room next to the river which sounds nice, but not so much. We had people constantly walking by the front door (employees live in units?). The bedroom garden level window was located UNDER a deck above us, provided no natural light and our "view" was of landscape rocks. The front door and front window were also below an upper dark deck on the north side and so there was little or no light from these either. Frustrating because when making the reservation we were told we would have an upper unit with south facing windows, mtn views (we didn't find any units that would have a mtn view) and quiet location.

When we arrived we were told we picked a great weekend to visit given the low occupancy rate for off-season. When we asked for another unit we were told they were almost completely booked and had only a couple units still available. We looked at two other units and said "no thanks." The unit we were in at least appeared to have been updated in recent years.

The restaurant on location was very good - both food and service. Every time we walked by the front desk there were different people behind the counter. We never encountered the same employee twice.

Clean water is gold in Colorado and we do all we can to preserve it and the land. Like most anywhere you will be asked to re-use your towels, etc. Yet, every morning an unrequested large garbage bag of towels, plastic garbage bags, paper towels and a smashed box of tissues will arrive at your door. I don't know...

If you decide to give this place a try, do request an updated unit. If you have children, do NOT get a unit with a loft since the really old railing does not meet code and they may fall right through to the lower level. Yikes!

Happy travels to you!

Our son married the love of his life on September 21, 2013 at the Vail Racquet Club. It couldn't have been better! The staff at VRC was fantastic, especially Amy, our event coordinator. We scheduled our rehearsal dinner and reception at VRC. It's really great, because all of our guests could stay on site. The facilities are top notch, with a beautiful pool, hot tubs and workout area. The condos and townhomes all have full, granite kitchens, with many of the units right on the Gore Creek. I would highly recommend VRC, you won't be disappointed!

We got a really good deal through a Groupon & best part there weren't any blackout dates like most other hotel deals. Very good location. Has quite a few recreational facilities for families coming here to relax the weekend. The condo wasn't very big but definitely suits the needs. It was clean & tidy. The view from our condo was beautiful so loved waking up to the sight of mountains :-).

Overall, a good stay.

Vail Racquet Club is nestled into the beautiful surroundings that is Vail. Understanding that the club has been around a while, that the decor will reflect this and that you wound up here either due to trying to save money or because you are using a Groupon, enjoy it. Our third floor unit had nice high ceiling, a wood burning fireplace, plenty of room, a nice stream off the back deck and was nicely appointed. All the appliances worked, the beds were comfortable bathrooms were clean and functioning as you would want.
I know this doesn't sound like a glowing review, but we really did enjoy our stay. The staff was friendly and professional, the fitness room had plenty of equipment, no waiting for a desired unit, a great weight section and all the tv screens you could want. This is a Racquet Club, so we checked out the courts. Something you need to realize is that these units are individually owned and mostly by sandals and high white socks wearing seniors. Maintenance appears to be on a need to be done to avoid a lawsuit. Again, I'm probably overstating, but the settling of the buildings and sagging decks, at least on our building indicate a reluctance to be proactive in major repairs. There are no elevators and the decks with table and chairs are semi common areas with your entire floor. it led to some fun group discussions and we met people we might not have otherwise. the minuscule back deck proved to be a welcome respite, but for more than two it would be tight and access is through the back bedrooms. Back to the courts. They are generally in playable shape, but patchwork looks again to stay one step ahead of playability and if your game is serious, you won't risk an injury playing on their uneven patched surfaces. The pool looked great, but we didn't partake, same with the hot tub/spas. Just too busy.
East Vail is a short drive to the main resort areas. In the summer months the shuttle is available every hour, but parking is free at The Lionsgate parking garage so we drove it. The golf courses looked incredible and each time we drove past I only saw a group about every third or fourth hole.
The feeling I left The Vail and Racquet Club was four star, but the age and structural deficiencies bring it down a notch. If your getting this with a Groupon or at a big discount, then it's about right, quite nice, clean and pleasant. Don't forget your white socks, you'll fit right in.

Room Tip: The upstairs rooms have nice high ceilings in the common room, balanced with a lack of elevators and...

We booked this for an anniversary getaway hoping for a classy and comfortable stay. Instead we got a dated, pain to get to, restrictive facility. It is part owner condos part motel. The stairs to our unit were dirty, narrow and there was no elevator. The rooms were old and musty. The bed was hard. Worst part was that we had to be out by 10 am and the housekeeping staff was knocking on he door as early as 9 am. It was hardly worth even the discounted price we paid with our groupon. I couldn't wait to get out!
