“Vails Dumpiest Hotel”
Reviewed 31 March 2013

In spite of its claims, this has got to be one of the worst hotels in Vail. Large rooms, they claimed, I didn't see it. There was no more space in there than any other hotel room I've been in in Vail. The towels were old and scratchy, like ratty towels from the YMCA. They did not keep the hot tub area stocked with them, and there were dirty towels all over the hot tub area, which should have been sopping up the water around the area, as there was no drain, making many people slip. They ran out of extra luggage racks, after I had to call twice to see what was taking them so long to bring one. There was a hole in the blanket on the bed, and no wine and cheese happy hour in the ugly lobby as promised on the website. The lobby furniture was terrible, and looked like nobody had done anything with it since 1970. I will say, the bathroom in the room was nice. If you get a great deal, it might be worth it, but I wouldn't pay over $150/night for this place!

I stayed at the Evergreen Lodge the weekend of March 16th with a buddy.

The good:
-Only a five minute walk (max) to the Vista Bahn gondola
-Nice bar with three pool tables, several tv's, darts, friendly staff, decent food with fairly cheap drinks
-The beds were okay and the pillows were nice

The not so great:
-Only luke warm water in the shower
-Thermostat did not work (this was fixed by opening a window at night)
-Old box tv (but yeah, you're not in Vail to watch TV)

This Lodge is all about location. If you're in Vail you're skiing/snowboarding/hiking anyway and won't be in your room very often. It would have been nice to have hot water and a working thermostat at night for $300+/night, but it was manageable.

I would probably stay here again due to the location and price, although would hope the water/thermostat was working. I'm guessing this was just our room but who knows - was not with my wife so didn't care enough to complain and/or switch rooms.

we stayed here for a long weekend and were very happy with the lodge. the location is perfect, just a few minutes' walk to the village & lifts. our room was quite large and the bed was so comfortable. we used the hot tub, sauna & pool after skiing one day but didn't spend a ton of time in the hotel otherwise.

service was great, i had an issue w/ the hairdryer and called to get a new one. it was fixed within minutes. i really cannot say enough great things about this place, we had such an amazing time in vail and were so glad to have found the evergreen lodge.

Room Tip: the side with the mountain view is ideal

The location isn't bad. From your room, take the elevator directly to the basement, walk past the indoor, commercial-scale hot tub and game room, and you are a two-minute walk from a bus stop at the library and skating rink. The buses are hybrid electric buses that run quite frequently, and you are only a few stops at most from each of the "centers" of Vail.

The room was decent, clean and the cleaning staff was friendly.

That said, don't expect a warm welcome or good service from the telephone receptionist or the front desk clerks. They are at best curt. And they provide inaccurate infomation. Before I arrived I rang ahead to clarify whether or not my room rate included breakfast. The response was "we don't have a restaurant." When we arrived we were told "the restaurant is closed until Wednesday." When I asked where I could rent skis the desk clerk tried to steer me to a discount rental shop at an inconvenient location, one where he could collect a referral fee. He attached a sticker with his identifying information to the rental company's brochure and told me to show them the brochure. (There are quite a few places near the hotel in convenient locations that do rent skis.)

The hotel does have a large sports bar on the ground floor, in case you are interested in that type of apres-ski environment. But we had no need to return to the ground floor from the time we checked in until we checked out, at which time we received an equally indifferent disregard from another surly front desk clerk.

Given lodging prices in Vail, Evergreen Lodge offers fair value. Just don't expect to be treated well for what you have to pay. The hotel would be better off hiring non-skiers who were there to work.

Room Tip: Second floor away from the elevators, but not too far away. The hallways are looong.

This lodge is located very nicely in Vail. There's a bar with good space and friendly staff located in the lodge itself. The rooms and facilities are what to expect. I think it's priced a bit to high for the quality of the rooms, but location is great!

This hotel is not a ski in ski out property but it is within walking distance to the slopes or a 1 minute bus ride. The bus will also take you to lions's head or Vail village. The hotel is old with small old tv's but the rooms are clean. Bath towels could be more plush. Breakfast was included buffet style but the buffet could have included more items like berries and blueberries for the cereal and oatmeal. Powdered eggs, home fries and choice of bacon or sausage. Pancakes or waffels were also on the buffet table. In the hotel was a sports bar with pub food that was acceptable and very affordable but the service was very slow due to the fact that there was only 1 server for the whole eating area. There was a restaurant in the hotel also but it seemed very empty every time i passed it. I was with a group so the nightly price was not so bad but if you booked with the hotel a per night rate was in the $350 range. There was also ski and boot storage in the lobby. The hot tub was also a plus

Room Tip: My room faced the parking lot on the 2nd floor but no noise the keep us up

Nice location within walking distance of both Vail villages and to the lifts. The free bus service drops you off in front of the hotel. Two things that could use improvement are the lighting in the lobby and the bath towels need to be replaced.
Great staff who pointed us to good deals.
For the money I would definitely stay again - don't forget your swimsuit - the hot tub is a must after skiing.
