Let me preface that I am a skier and have been going to Vail for winter and summers for a long long time and have stayed in many hotels both in Vail and Lionshead. This was a ladies ski trip for us as my friend's husband stayed at home. We both have been skiing Vail for over 30 years so Vail is home to us. I am going expound on my stay as I feel so strongly about the new Tivoli and what an asset it is to Vail and the price value that it offers.
It is amazing as to what the Lazier family accomplished in building their new hotel. We arrived and were blown away first of all by the beautiful European style stone building.
Environmentally the automatic entry door is correct even though at times you think oh no but it does help to control the heat. We entered and then wandered in awe for about five minutes taking in the large lobby area, looking at the artwork, the warmth of the furniture, and the spaciousness of the check-in area. Large floor to ceiling windows embrace the entire back. The nicest part was seeing again the familiar faces behind the front desk again offering their gracious hospitality that has welcomed us so many times over the years.
A bellman gave us the tour and what a proud young man from South America. A business center room complete with a computer and printer, (no charge). Library with TV, the ski and ski boot room and let me tell you this is uptown. You are not allowed to wear ski boots in the lobby on the beautiful stone floors but they give you slippers to wear to the ski room and back to your room. The hallways are so spacious and the room numbers are wonderful as to how they are presented all specially made.
We so enjoyed the elevator laughing as the door closed thinking how many times we hauled our bags at the old Tivoli up all the stairs. Each floor offers wide hallways which we love. Then, we went into our Mountain View room and could not believe how spacious with two queen beds. There was a granite wet bar with coffee, tea, small refrigerator, and complimentary internet access. Bathrooms are something else. Walk in shower and a deep relaxing bathtub. Under the sink there was so much cabinet space so for two ladies it was perfect! Thick towels including an over-sized bath towels. Nightly turndown we received bottled waters which are always appreciated in the mountains. The beds are wonderful! It is nice to have everything new. The choice of colors including the carpet is relaxing and fits so well for the mountains bringing the indoor sand outdoors together. Our view overlooked the park and the mountain. In fact, my friend ended up hurting her leg after the second day and she loved sitting in the chair and just looking out while reading. It was the most comfortable week of skiing that we have ever had. A year before we stayed at The Lodge - which was wonderful but no where near the room space that the Tivoli offers.
There is an expansive continental breakfast included in the rate and it was terrific we were not the least bit disappointed in fact very surprised and some excellent choices. Not your basic continental breakfast at the Best Western! It is served in the lobby area in the Brown Hound Lounge and there is staff there to make sure they do not run out of anything. Lazier's favorite canine mascot Indy (brown lab) did visit us several mornings as he has done many times before as he wants to make you know that he is really Mr. Tivoli!
The location of the Tivoli is great and offers peace and quiet. You are within a five minute walk to the best of Vail year-round - Golden Peak, the Village, Vista Bahn and the Betty Ford Theater in the summer. There is currently so much construction in Vail and at Lions Head that it is nice to be away from it and the noise of Hwy 70. We did not drive so we did not take advantage of the parking garage. You can ski back to the hotel at the end of the day.
Before we left we did tour other rooms including the Village View rooms and it really is a matter of preference and price. We did see the Peter Seibert Suite and it offers breathtaking views of down valley and Golden Peak. We all commented that it is perfect for a honeymoon. The pictures of Peter in the room are very intimate and special as he was Mr. Vail. The Lazier's were some of the very first to live in Vail in the early 60's. For us it is so nice to stay in a family run hotel and to talk with the owners. They do care about you and your experience – you are coming into their home. Now, compared to years ago all the resorts are getting so many branded hotels that the personality of the hotels and the ski areas have disappeared and also the staff are afraid to engage you. They are only there for a season.
Kudos to the management of Tivoli for keeping the familiar faces to greet you.
We have always skied with a group of doctors for years and many were in Vail at the same time we were so we invited them to come over and see the hotel. It is a secret now but I am sure not for long. We loved the new Tivoli Lodge and know that we will be returning again and again!! I agree with their tag line - A Vail Classic.
