“A Very Nice, Updated Motel 6”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 March 2014

I've stayed at many Motel 6's over the years, and the quality can vary from location to location. This particular Motel 6 has been nicely upgraded, and the service that I experienced was excellent.

When we arrived, I was checked in by a very pleasant, helpful front desk person. The rooms themselves were surprisingly large - equal in size to what you'd find in a typical mid-range hotel. The rooms had also been upgraded to the new Motel 6 decor, which was nice - but the room actually seemed a bit too large since it only had the standard, spartan Motel 6 furniture in it - in this case, one bed, the standard work desk / TV counter, and a small size table. But the room was comfortable and clean, and that's all that matters.

The bathroom was likewise clean. The showers had the newer Motel 6-issue restricted flow shower heads, which delivered an average but not robust stream of hot water.

The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet, enabling me to get a decent night's sleep.

The Wi-Fi worked flawlessly, and, as an AARP member, one gets a discount on the room rate and the wi-fi is free.

We drove quite a ways out of our way to stay at this location, because the price made it worthwhile, compared to typical motel prices in southern Connecticut. The extra drive was worth it.

There's a 24 hour diner down the road and a Walgreens nearby. There's easy access to I-95 and New Haven is a short drive away.

Overall - a good choice if all you're looking for is basic but comfortable lodging.

We stopped here coming from NYC to visit Yale University in New Haven. It was a very nice facility. The lobby was clean and smelled good and the staff working at the front desk were friendly. Our room and bathroom was very clean. Nothing to complain about. Overall nice experience for just stopping by. Yale University brought us here and the motel is only about 15 minutes from the campus with an excellent location on the highway.

Rooms are clean and modern, recently renovated. I had a spacious room and I was comfortable enough staying there that I'd stay there again if I was on a budget. The downsides were minor: blanket is very light for winter, no tissues or hairdryer in the bathroom. Definately stay in a non-smoking room-you could tell where the smoking rooms were from the hallway. Worth staying there for the money you save!

I found this location calling the1-800 motel 6 reservation line. It's a jewel in the motel 6 chain. The building is a very nice brick structure that looks almost new. In fact it's a renovation about 3 months old. It has all the features expected from a motel 6, and I look forward to same feel experiences going to a different location each night. The room was very clean. Location right off the highway. Staff made me feel very welcome. Try this location I think you'll like what you find.

I stayed at the Motel 6 in May for work. If you've read any of my other Branford hotel reviews, you will see that I'm making my way through the meager options.

The Motel 6 might be the most meager of all.

The exterior is dark brick, sad, old, and could desperately use an update.

It did not bode well that I saw 2 cats sitting in the window of one of the rooms that faced the parking lot.

Entering the lobby is like entering a prison. Or an insane asylum. Or some other cold, unfriendly, institutional building. Or one of those check cashing places you see in the strip malls in Florida.

The common spaces were undergoing renovation (not mentioned on their website at the time I made the reservation, or in any of my reservation confirmation emails) and subsequently looked like a prison/asylum/check cashing place that someone was trying to destroy.

Surprisingly, the room was not bad. It seemed clean. Everything seemed new. Certainly nothing seemed luxe or upgraded, but it was clean and new. The sheets were stiff and thin, but clean and new. The bathroom was spare and lit like a sterile operating room, but it was clean and recently updated.

But - for the reason of the public areas, I would never stay at this hotel again. Despite the fact that the room wasn't terrible, I don't relish the feeling of checking into a prison or asylum.

Though I'd approached it with some trepidation, I was pleasantly surprised by the Motel 6 in Branford. We were in town for a university graduation, so, despite making reservations months in advance, it was pretty slim pickings. However, we found the place to be spotlessly clean, basically comfortable, and staffed by a kind and competent crew.

My only real qualm was the orange IKEAness of it all. There were no carpets - a boon for cleanliness and those with allergies - but it did make the room seem over-large and echoey. In fact, noise was a large problem: not because of rude or overly-noisy guests and staff but because of the nature of the building. Whilst we were there, they were remodeling the hallways, so the sounds echoed extra-loud, but the lack of carpet, drapes (they had really nice blinds), and furniture (everything was simple, IKEA-style, faux-Danish modern without padding) will not help at any time.

In the end, though, it was a really nice stay. I was especially pleased with the staff's willingness to provide extra bedding, etc. That and it was incredibly, incredibly clean.

This motel 6 is an older property and is currently undergoing renovation in some areas. The room we were given had a strong paint smell and a fan unit that was impossible to turn down or off.. we stayed during a cold, rainy period in May and the room was freezing. The bathrooms are smallish and pretty cramped but this is a Motel 6... The rooms were clean and the front desk staff was helpful, even though they claimed that the fan units could not be turned off.. If you want to stay at a reliable (if freezing) budget motel convenient for New Haven and the central CT coast this is an OK choice.
