I am surprised that few of the locals know of this place. Most hear the word observatory and automatically assume you are referring to Gin Gin. However, you would be mistaken to overlook this institution. The tour guide, Greg, is so passionate about astronomy that it is impossible not to rub off on you a bit. Of course, he adds a great bit of Australian wit to the experience as well. The guided tour included over 6 telescope experiences as well as open sky observations and was well into a 3 hour long length of time. I would highly recommend to anyone with even the remotest interest in the night sky.

My wife and I have been once every year for the past 3 years, each year we take someone new to share the wonder of the stars with us.
The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and always do their best to ensure a great night is had by all.

It was a gift for my 10 year old godson's birthday. He has an astrological bent so we went and looked at the moon and Venus (with a shadow) and stars and galaxies and a LONG LONG LONG way away. The volunteers were very knowledgable, helpful - understood kids and grownups and made the whole evening very very interesting! Take a jumper - in case, it gets cool at night.

Bickley Observatory tours are interesting and unique. Imagine being in a secluded forest with telescopes and observatory domes close by along with experienced guides to show you features of the Milky Way, stars and Venus. Along with a small but interesting museum of all things celestial as well as a gift shop, the Observatory is a fascinating glimpse of other planets for us mere "earthlings".

The observatory is the oldest of its kind in the Southern hemisphere, the exhibits are good, and the staff is both knowledgeable and welcoming. They're also very flexible: the night I visited was partly cloudy - it even rained for a short while! - and the staff had to fall back on showing us other objects than the ones planned. Overall, thoroughly recommended!
