My husband and I just spent a fall weekend, Saturday and Sunday nights, at Rock Hall. What a fun experience for us! It was my first time staying at a B and B. The large home was amazing and the grounds were beautiful! Plus our hosts, Stella and Michael, were very attentive to our every need.
In the morning an impressive bountiful gourmet breakfast was served in the dining room with a crystal chandelier above the large beautifully set table and a fireplace at the end of the room. It was fun to have breakfast with Stella and the other guests and discuss the prior day's adventures and plans for the new day. In the late afternoon appetizers and drinks were served in the "Pub" which was a fun way to wind down before then going out for the evening.
We would deinitely recommend Rock Hall to anyone looking to enjoy a beautiful getaway for a country weekend in Connecticut.

We just spent Saturday night in the Rock Hall Penthouse. Rock Hall is one breathtaking property. The owners Stella and Michael are extremely accommodating hosts and all details were perfect. Our room was large, and very clean. The bed and linens were top of the line. The outdoor property is lovely too, there is a gorgeous pool and tennis courts. The breakfast that was served on Sunday morning was delicious, lots of local fruits and fish, great coffee, and a ton of other options. We are in the process of planning our trip back up there in the fall.

We just spent three nights at Rock Hall in Chamber Two and loved our experience. The grounds are lovely and the house has the feeling of exactly what it is, a stately home, charmingly decorated with every thought given to the guests' comfort. We were warmly greeted at the door by our hosts, Stella and Michael, who immediately made us feel welcome. They were very sweet to our 17 year old daughter, as well. We loved our spacious, air conditioned room and pretty bath. The breakfasts were a foodie's delight and left us looking forward to seeing what Michael would serve the next day. The extras were very thoughtful; from the afternoon special cocktail of your choice and a delicious plate of jumbo shrimp or chips and mango salsa to the movies and candy or popcorn at no extra charge. When we left in the mornings, we were given bottles of cold water for the hot day ahead. We had interesting conversations with Stella and Michael and found we had much in common. When we left, we felt we had made new friends. We look forward to visiting them again and highly recommend their beautiful inn to all who appreciate fine accommodations. Thanks, Stella & Michael!

Room Tip: Stella will help you select the right room for your needs.

I have the best of both worlds, living between Florence, Italy and New York City and when friends come from across the pond I find Rock Hall the best fit! Although some work was being done this week on the manor, nothing could stop us from enjoying this splendid get away. The tennis court was summer ready, and a quick dip was cold but fun for my European friends. My Italian agent who is the snob of life is still speaking about this property. We took advantage of the mixology class and are reaping the benefits back in the city. We each had messages and slept like a baby in the lap of luxurious linens and very comfortable beds. I had chamber 2 and felt like I was in the movie the princess and the pea, but the bathroom rivals all 5 star hotels. Thanks Mike and Stella see you soon, keep the light on.

Room Tip: Chamber 2 is my fav!!!!!!!!!!!!

We recently visited Rock Hall for an overnight getaway. We were absolutely exhausted when we arrived, after driving many miles. We couldn't wait to get into our room and have a late afternoon nap, as we were meeting special friends for dinner later in the evening. We were offered cheese and wine, and were thrilled! However, we didn't realize that we weren't taking it to our room--we were to sit on the sofa and talk with our host while enjoying it. Okay, that was nice and I could deal with that, but then we had to take a tour of the house. We were only staying the one night simply because it was too far to drive back after our night out, so we really didn't need to see (or would be using) the game room, movie theater, etc. I think seeing the entire house should have been an option.

By the time we were finally able to crash, we couldn't. There was work being done on the front of the building, and we were subjected to drilling, hammering, and pounding. The workers were on a scaffolding directly outside of our windows, so even though we were in the middle of nowhere, we had to close all of the shades. What view?? I was so aggravated by that time, I suggested that we simply get ready and go out much earlier than we needed to. In all fairness to the owners, they did state that it was emergency repair work, but I felt that we could have at least had the option of moving to a room perhaps on the other side of the house, as we were the only ones staying there at the time. Even though the room was beautiful, the noise level was such that we couldn't enjoy it at all. And the workers arrived early the next morning. Luckily we were awake, or we would have been assaulted with noise again! Another minor complaint was that the pillowcases smelled like someone else had slept on them. Obviously we know what clean sheets smell like, and this were definitely not. Ewww!

I would have to say that the breakfast was wonderful, however. Everything was perfectly arranged, and the food was fabulous. But, of course, for the exhorbitant price, it should have been! We have paid less for five-star hotels in London and Amsterdam.

My biggest complaint, I guess, is the noise, and the having to be sociable when dead on your feet. I know many of you will say "well, that's what a B & B is all about." And you'd be right. We have travelled the world, and have stayed in many a hotel and B & B, and we always say after a B & B stay--never again. I'm saying it this time too.

Room Tip: Chamber 2 is gorgeous. I really wanted to take a shower, but if you see it, you'll know why I didn't chance it. Somebody else mentioned it looked like something out of "Saw"!! LOL! It really did!!

First and foremost we deeply regret that the emergency repair work that was begun the day the guests arrived impacted the quality of their stay. That day our engineer informed us that the repairs to the 100 year old stucco facade were more significant than originally anticipated and that an emergency repair crew needed to begin immediately removing the stucco from the exterior of the manor house adjacent to the particular guest room the guests had reserved. We contacted the guests by cell phone and explained the situation. They told us not to worry and assured us that they would not be effected.

In hindsight, in addition to the fantastic complimentary bottle of white wine and cheese platter we offered them in our Great Room to mitigate the unavoidable circumstances surrounding their arrival, we should have made it clear they were welcome to enjoy the wine in the comfort of their guest room and moved the guests to another area of the mansion despite their having reserved our incomparable "Chamber 2."

We do offer guests tours of the manor house so that they feel comfortable and can find their way around whether they are staying one night or one week. Certainly, it is not mandatory nor is interaction or conversation with the innkeepers. Our linens are sent out and professionally laundered with the utmost care and rooms are made up between each guest with every attention to detail.

We are delighted they enjoyed the lavish Mediterranean inspired breakfast that we prepare every morning whether we are hosting one couple or five couples and regret that their travel plans didn't allow them to enjoy another night with us in what is normally one of the quietest, most peaceful spots on earth.
